Don't go here!
My husband and I visited the resort for 5 days and four nights. The food was ok but the staff was rude, unwelcoming, we felt very strange and the rooms are old, poorly constructed, you can hear everything! The rooms smell as well, there are mosquito's everywhere. If you loose something, don't even think about getting it back. My husband left his Ray Bans by the pool, we went to the lost and found and got very little attention. The whole place is a rip off, we rented a car thru Hertz at the resort and visited a few locations in the area, the people are scammers! We met other couples who were there and felt the same way we did, not welcome. This was a last minute trip for us but for anyone who is booking a vacation, stay away from this place and Cancun. The customs line at the airport took over an hour. We have learned, we loved Cabo so wanted to give Cancun a try...but never again. Spend the extra money and go somewhere else. The beaches here are terrible except for Isla Mujeres. There was seaweed everywhere. I honestly have only one nice thing to say and that's about the Zen restaurant, the food was great! Other than that, it was a terrible experience and the people are unbelievably rude and rip you off anywhere you go. Even with the rental car, they tried to rip us off with the gas so we got the keys back and went to fill it up ourselves.
The customer service is excellent! All the staff was incredibly attentive and helpful. I was a bit nervous that there were no dinner reservations allowed, but after the 1st dinner I realized it was not an issue. There were no long waits and the restaurant staff was organized, friendly and efficient. The food was rather tasty as well. There are several families with lots of kids. It didn't bother me, but my husband would have preferred more adult only options. All in all it was an amazing property with excellent service.
Royalton was nice not as nice as the Royalton in Jamaica, there want much to do but was relaxing and people were great! The diamond club part was ahhh? The diamond lounge in other resorts was top shelf liquor food coffee desserts and everything. This place has nothing!! They had old desert sitting there and that's it a tiny like room coffee machine lol nothing else no liquor no food nothing for diamond? Not sure we would go back over other resorts. But really want bad if you haven't seen the other really nice places.
CONS:
the first day we arrived the company that drove us to the hotel was very nice and professional.
When we arrvived to the hotel the view was very nice. and were notified by a gentleman named LAZARO. that our room was not ready and to check back in 30 min; which we were ok with.
After 30 min my husband whom is african american went to the front desk to check if the room was ready, as the same person named lazaro in spanish said that, my husband was dumb for coming and asking him again and that he was not giving us the room until he felt like it.
at this point my husband was in disbilief, and he had no idea my husband spoke spanish, after my husband confronted him, he ended up upgrading us to the diamond club and made us sign a document that we could not discuss what happened with anyone.
once we got to the room one of our beds was drenching wet and through out our whole stay was never chnaged. myself and my two toddlers had to sleep in the same bed.
*the beach was UNHABITABLE, so if you are a beach person STAY away.
They said it was seedweed season, but not one soul was in the water; it was inpossible to get through the feets of seedweed that was piled up
Pros: Restaurants had a lot options, but felt like we were treated different every time, not sure if it was because we are not caucasian.
the architecture of the resort is beautiful and the entertaiment was very nice.

CAN U ACCOMODATE 2 ADULTS AND 3 CHILDREN 17, 15 AND 13 IN ONE ROOM?2 answers
4 years, 54 months ago
PENNSYLVANIA
The resort classifies guests ages 2-12 as Children. In this particular case, a 17, 15 and 13 year old is considered an adult. As a result, you would not be able to fit 5 adults in one room. For further information, please call us at 1.800.915.2322.
SamCC
Request the room upgrade from a Junior Suite to whatever the next level is.

Can my 10 and 12 year old kids use the teen lounge???3 answers
4 years, 51 months ago
New york
The teen lounge is generally for children 12 and over. Any exceptions would be at the resort's discretion.
SalCC
Technically, you need to be 13, but my 12 yr. old is 5'9 so I took him there There were no kids, so he didn't stay. The teen club is supervised, has video games, music, ping pong, air hockey, etc. I think they also have a lot of activities each day.
Rental
They were checking ages I heard from another parent & they would not let them use it.

Is wine included as part of the unlimited beverages? do they have yoga classes at this resort?5 answers
4 years, 49 months ago

Wine is normally additional. For more information about their wine selection or yoga classes, please check with the resort directly for the most up to date information. Their international phone number is: (01152 to dial out) 984-803-3576.
TimCC
House wine is included - any wine that is not the house wine is extra.
They do have yoga and other fitness classes outside.
GSCM
Yes, house wine by the glass is included but wine by the bottle is extra.
They had yoga classes every morning by the pool
Purdue1982
Yes & Yes
Coreen
We were able to get wine at supper. Not sure about during the day without paying but maybe. I didn't try ordering it other than at supper. Yes they do have yoga. It's outside by the pool in the morning. The yoga location is not secluded so people will be walking by during it across the pool. I didn't do the yoga but if it was me I would want a more secluded location to do yoga without distractions.

What kind of beer does the resort have?3 answers
At a previous all inclusive, all they had was warm corona
4 years, 49 months ago
MI
The resort offers several domestic brands.
SalCC
Our beer was cold but it gets warm quickly due to the heat and humidity. I suggest bringing an insulated cup, that really seemed to keep the drinks cold for us!
Rick369
They had bud light in our fridge other wise not sure we drank mixed drinks

Did you fix the beach from seaweed?2 answers
3 years, 48 months ago
America
Hotels routinely perform maintenance on their beaches to ensure seaweed buildup is under control. Since this is a natural occurrence, the amount of seaweed deposits ending up on the beach will vary between seasons and year to year.
CCGreg
They have a tractor with a rake attachment and the beach is kept free of seaweed.

Are the beaches that bad?4 answers
I'm planning a visit in February and was wondering if the beaches are as bad as people say. Is the water swimmable or is it really that bad because of all the seaweed? Any information would be greatly appreciated!
3 years, 47 months ago
Michigan
The resorts do as much as they can to keep seaweed off the beaches, but for further information, please check with the resort directly. Their international phone number is: (01152 to dial out) 984-803-3576.
TimCC
The sand is kinda hard to walk on and there is a lot of seaweed but you can swim I did and enjoyed .
Melanie2016
The beach was pretty bad. Covered with seaweed. But the hotel had bedbugs. Do not go.
CrazyTrain
The beach is nice. The sand is very soft. Still a lot of seaweed in the water but still able to go in the water. If you go about 5 mins away from the resort snorkeling is amazing.

Is the hotel near any other hotels or is it off on its own?
I was interested in swimming with the Dolphins. How close is it to the hotel? Do you suggest I book through CheapCaribbean or wait to book through the hotel? Thanks so much!
3 years, 47 months ago
Michigan
We do offer excursions with a contracted excursion company. Normally, before travel it is cheaper to purchase beforehand. Please check with the resort directly for the most up to date information regarding nearby activities. Their international phone number is: (01152 to dial out) 984-803-3576.
TimCC
The hotel is totally isolated but has its own beach. (about 20 miles or so South of downtown Cancun). However, it is very close to the airport (15 mins or so) and much closer to the offsite excursions such as Xel -Ha (a really cool outdoor water area where you can swim with the dolphins, snorkel in caves, jump off cliffs, zip line, etc., etc.) and Chizen Itza. (the ancient ruins)
It is a fairly good sized, upscale resort, so there is lots to do on site.
Rental
Hi! We just went for our honeymoon , The resort was amazing and I wish someone would've told me this before we went but there aren't any resorts close to the Royalton. We did a zip line and swimming in cave excursion which was an hour away from the resort. To be honest you can book through cheap Caribbean but we did wait till we got to the resort to book and the prices were honestly the same Online and in the resort. Many people say that you can go out and negotiate with people outside the resort (like resorts in playa del Carmen or in cancun), but there's nothing on the outside of it there's nothing walking distance or close driving distance to go shopping or travel into the city is about an hour away, so pretty much most of your excursion booking would be through the resort or online before you get there.
MrsMFermin
It is on its own and approximately 15-20 min away from airport by car
LikeSummer
It is not near anything at all. Secluded. It's about 45 min from dolphin excursions.

Are the restaurants by reservation or first come first serve?

Some of the restaurants are. You may make reservations upon check in. If you have any further questions or need help booking, please call and speak to one of our Beachologists at 1-800-915-2322.

The restaurant's are first come first serve. If they cant accommodate you when you first arrive they take your name and give you a pager. The pager reaches anywhere on the grounds and you have 10 minutes to respond back to the restaurant

Mens dress code5 answers
I was reading the description on the resort and everything looked great until every restaurant ( buffet excluded ) requires long pants and shoes ? Is this dinner only ? Is it strictly enforced ?
3 years, 46 months ago
DRB
Most resorts of 4 star or higher will require long pants and dress shoes for their a la carte dining selections. You may be able to get a away with Bermuda/khaki shorts but this would be at resort's discretion.
CCGreg
Our guys wore shorts and button down shirts, the main thing seemed to be no sandals for the guys
kdub36
Most restaurants allow shorts and have outdoor seating. They were not enforcing dress codes.
However, a lot of folks (particularly the Europeans) dressed up very nicely.

The men did not have to wear long pants nice shorts but MUST have sleeves (short is fine) on their shirts or they would decline entry.

How was the beach?4 answers
Is the beach full of seaweed and does it make the resort smell?
3 years, 44 months ago
Allentown
We just returned (in April) and there still was seaweed on all of the beaches in Cancun. At the Royalton, they do try to remove it each morning, but it is still there when you swim. It didn't bother us as much as we thought it would. If it freaks you out, they do have 10 really nice swimming pools with views of the ocean.
Rental
Royalton Riviera Cancun is nestled along a beautiful stretch of white sand beach with loungers and palapas for shade..They clean the seaweed to the best of their ability daily.
bthornton
Yes there was quite a bit of seaweed. No it did not smell.

No smell, but a decent amount of seaweed. They rake it up, but there is still some throughout the day
