Cool amenities

It was a great stay. I wish they had more signs or guides to direct us to all the amazing amenities. Very nice hotel but we couldn’t figure out where a couple restaurants were. Wanted to do the indoor ‘river boat ride’ but couldn’t figure out where to catch it. The dancing troop and singers were amazing. As well as, the live band.

The Resort Pros: It is clean and lush. They have lovely animal areas to see live animals like parrots, deer, and monkeys. The river flowing through the resort is nice. They have a live Mayan style performance every night. cons: We went there 5 years ago and building maintenance went downhill. The steam room in the spa didn't work. The women's bathrooms in the spa didn't flush. The restaurants: The main buffet was mediocre in both selections, food, and service. The Lunch buffet at the restaurant over the waterfall pool was good. They had hamburgers, hot dogs, tacos, etc. Service was very good. The food was also good. Only complaint was that the ice cream machine broke the day I wanted ice cream. The Asian restaurant was... ok. The food was... ok. The service wasn't very good. We had to wait a LONG time to get waters and we were very thirsty. The steak house was good. The service was good. The salad bar was well stocked. My steak was delicious. My husband said his steak was a little tough. The Hacienda (Mexican restaurant) was excellent. They have a great dessert buffet! They also have a salad bar and a ceviche bar. The manager of the restaurant is very attentive. The food is delicious! By far the best restaurant at the resort. The Rooms: We were very very disappointed with our room. Our bathroom leaked from the ceiling and we had to use all our towels to stop up the flow of water. They didn't take the leak seriously and originally refused to move us to a different room until 2 days later when a repair man FINALLY came and said they would have to tear open the walls to fix it. They moved us to another room (the toilet leaked in that room). We constantly had to ask for shampoo and towels and washcloths. They wouldn't leave it because they "didn't have enough". Ultimately because we complained so much they gave us a comp for the spa to get massages. We couldn't take showers for the first 2 days there. We were very upset and when we called guest services to complain about the leaks or ask for towels or shampoo they would literally hang up on us and then stopped accepting calls from our room number. We went to this resort 5 years ago. Things have dramatically gone down. Beach: It is small and very crowded. Pools: Things have changed since 5 years ago when we came last. Now they have converted more than half the resort to "members only area" There are not very many pool options unless you are club members and a large portion of the very small beach is club only as well. We loved this resort so much 5 years ago that we wanted to go back to the same place. We were sorely disappointed. We will be going back to the Cancun area, but NOT to this hotel. VERY disappointed. Would not recommend.

We thoroughly enjoyed our trip to the Occidental at Xcaret. The service was outstanding, I defiantly recommend getting Royal Club access to fully enjoy all of the perks.

Wonderful experience

Okay so the resort is great. Lots of pool space for laying out. I’ll never go in July again because of the humidity. There is plenty of selection for food. Staff is very attentive. Beach is on the smaller side. The dolphin experience was incredible. The Xcaret has a huge park and the grounds are 33 Acres. So be prepared to walk or catch one of the carts that run every 20 minutes. It really was a wonderful vacation. I would recommend highly.
