Family club

The GRP is a very large resort. There is a trolly that can take you from one end to the other. The food is better than most all inclusive resorts I’ve stayed at. The kids pool and club is great. The liquor is good but they only serve one brand of beer XX. You need to make reservations to eat at the restaurants. Miso is by far the best. Ask for the tepan table. The pools were all clean and busy. The beach and water was covered in seaweed and had a foul smell. Our driver said the seaweed has been a problem for 3 years now and there not sure how to fix it. We went to turtle beach and the seaweed was there to. There’s a shuttle that takes you to downtown it’s a must. There’s lots to do on 5th ave. Pros: all the food was good. Staff was great. Kids club, pool, buffet and ice cream parlor was great. Nightly shows were good. Cons: Beach and water was full of seaweed and had a foul smell. There was way to many people for my taste. The beer and wine selection was disappointing. The size of the resort was massive you either wait for the tram or walk a mile. My family and I had a good time but next trip we will try close to downtown.

This is the first review I ever wrote but felt I need to warn people. Overall this resort is poor at best. I’ll start with the positive then move on to why you should look at other resorts. As you could see from the pictures the place is beautiful. The pools are nice, it’s a huge place, I enjoyed most of the shows, the rooms are nice with a nice big jet bath tub. The swim out pool from the room is nice for an upgrade. Now this is why I was completely disappointed and actually spent most of the time thinking back to every other resort I’ve been to in Mexico that has been awesome and wishing we could go back. The food is the same horrible cafeteria food every single day. Although there are several buffets they all serve the exact same food every single day. My expectations got lower as the time passed for example I got excited when I was served warm food. They keep the food out way too long and it’s cold. The food is undercooked so much so that you can’t eat it such as the potatoes. The service is horrible. Almost every request I made I was told sorry, no. This is unacceptable. The workers and very unhappy. Anything you ask for anything it’s like they give you an attitude for asking. Room serve is the worst. I asked for bottled water at restaurants and at the bar and I was told it is bottled. And I said why isn’t it in a bottle than. Then I asked for bottled water in the room and I called 4 times and finally someone came by and dropped it off. Asking for anything is like pulling teeth. Oh and there’s no whole milk anywhere in the resort. I need milk for my small children and they have me some Artificial milk that you don’t even need to keep refrigerated. My kids didn’t want it so I was stuck giving them juice which also I was told at the buffet I can’t take more then one juice box. I’m so upset about this trip. I wish I could turn back time and actually read some of the reviews before I booked. I just looked at the pictures and the price was low. Pay a little more and trust me your money is well worth it. We leave tomorrow and I can’t wait to go home and eat warm normal food. If you want to be treated like a princess look elsewhere otherwise you’ll be treated like a peasant here.

disappointment

Is advertised as 5 star hotel, and I wont give them even 3. Rooms are very poor condition, not clean windows and mirrors show several finger prints everywhere. At the terrace, there is plastic uncomfortable furniture, I was aware that is on the family section but that is not a reason to go low in quality. I talked to the manager about it and he just offer to clean the room again, but if I wanted to get a better room I needed to pay $100.00 more p/night. They gave me third level room no elevator and the access to stairs was far away to go somewhere it was a long walk. I am very disappointed. Beach got lots of sargassum and i could not enjoy the beach and the clear waters of the caribbean ocean

Playa del Carmen

The experience on cheap Caribbean is fairly easy. But the hotel staff is not very informative when you first arrive. They dont even try to connect you with someone to show you the layout of the hotel or invite you to special events for the day. But once you try to explore on Your own you will find information guides by the dining room of either riviera or sunset. Both of those buffets are great. You have to keep in mind that they need to prepare food for hundreds of people , so don’t expect to get homemade guacamole. Please do yourself a favor and make the time to make reservations at their restaurants, they are all great. There is not variety in the kids menu, but they make it for the kiddos. Since the beach is full of seaweed my girls didn’t like bathing in it. Which is a bummer since you have to pay to use the beach when you get there. Fees that’s re enforced by el municipios., but you can always sign up for paid excursions. Which are totally worth it . ESP. Xcaret.
