Overall Pretty Good!

We did the Deal of Fortune and ended up with Dreams and I can say for the money we paid it was pretty great. The room was always clean, the air conditioning was awesome, and the staff was stellar. We only have a few complaints. The adult pool was not very clean and the beach was very small. But again for the price and service it was genuinely a great experience. The only time anyone was rude to us was a dark haired woman who appeared to be a manager was terrible rude and hateful to us at the World Cafe, I emailed the concierge about it and he ignored my email. So that was definitely off putting. But other pro's: we went deep sea fishing and were able to bring back out catch and the chef and Oceana prepared it, and it was truly the best fish we've ever had. This was our first time at an all-inclusive so I did not have high hopes for the food, but it was ALL AMAZING!

Excellent resort!

Puerto Aventuras is an excellent gateway for families with kids. Everyone works very hard to please tourists. There are few annoyances that can be overlooked. Rooms are a bit outdated and improvements are necessary in the immediate future. Leaking bathtub, minimal closet space are just a few annoyances that I had to overcome but that didn't diminish this resort charm, location and hospitality. The best assets are the stuff which are professional and very, very friendly. Fernando running drinks, Dulce at the coffee shop, all busboys and waiters and the kids club staff are amazing.

Disappointed

Quick background. My wife and I have been on over a dozen Caribbean trips with and without our 2 children. Current ages 12 and 15. Of these vacations 8 have been to Mexico. Best guess is this was our 4th or 5th with cheap Caribbean. We chose the deal of Fortune based on price and hoped we would get a chance to stay at a 4.5 star hotel we had not previously tried. Of all the options offered we had hoped that we would not get dreams Puerto Aventuras...we stayed there before and we're disappointed at that time as well. It was a risk on our part but we rolled the dice. We got dreams Puerto Aventuras. It is not a 4.5 star resort. Not then and not now however we were going to make the best of it. Never have I written a negative or positive review for that matter but I feel compelled in this case. A couple of quick positives...food is decent quality for an all inclusive as are the drinks. Most places are close to the same and this is no different. Pacifico, Modelo, and corona lite all in cans is a nice option. One specific area of beach was nice and we were able to get seats there everyday. Most of hotel employees (servers and entertainment team) worked hard to please you. Some more so than others. And.... Well that's about it. The negatives. These started at check in. We knew the deal of the day wouldn't yield us the finest room in the hotel but were told our room was a single garden view with one king bed...did I mention that we had our 12 and 15 year old son with us? I explained that was unacceptable and were given free upgrade. Room with 2 beds above a restaurant and the Disco which cranks up the music only at bedtime. Let me circle back real quick. These negatives are hotel issues...not cheap Caribbean... however it IS cheap Caribbean that includes this hotel in deal of day package!! I digress. So next issue is that every day we were given 3 towels. Again 4 occupants so we had to call room service for extra most days. We then learned to start taking pool towels with us. The brochure states mini bar restocked daily. Not so much. Checked in on Friday and Monday I went to lobby staff to inform them we had been ignored thus far. When she asked what we needed I said everything...isn't that the point of restocking it? Unlimited luxury? It was also when I told of the towel situation, the fact we had no toilet paper and the fact that they were cleaning our room at 6pm the time we were usually ready to start preparing for dinner. To the front desk credit the rectified situation but made us feel like we should be happy with what we were getting and offered no apologies. Next major disappointment and this is big if u are a pool person...which we are. Pool is tiny, crowded and basically a pool for younger kids. There is another pool which is quieter but adults only. So u better like the beach if you have tweaners like us. As I said food is decent. And at an all inclusive u should find something to eat. However food options are terrible. Buffet for breakfast and lunch is tiny and serve same things every day. A la carte restaurant for lunch was under construction and closed. And one a la carte restaurant was closed for dinner every night. And the seafood restaurant which every resort I've ever been to has as an option was only available to adults here! Nightly shows are average at best....and that is a reach. They try hard but it is clear they put minimal money into outside entertainment. Lastly would just like to say that I have had good experiences with cheap Caribbean before but this time I felt I had to write this. I'm leaving a bunch of little stuff out but I think I included enough. I would use cheap Caribbean again but never stay at dreams Puerto Aventuras nor do the deal of fortune again. Maybe these deals all have at least one clunker thrown in to entice you with the possibility of some really nice ones. For example I stayed at the Royalton last year which cheap Caribbean rates only a 4 star....in our opinion it is superior in every way to this resort which is rated a 4.5 star. We rolled the dice and crapped out. We learned for next year!!

NO!

Please don't waste your money for this hotel. It's horrible. From the 1 hour ride to the beach to the pools to the old and extremely worn out hotel . It's just not worth it. This should not be called Dreams. Every minute since we got here has been a nightmare. We are 3 people and they gave us a room with one bed. I begged for room with 2 beds and I went 3 times to ask and they keep saying that have no rooms available. Told me to sleep on the pull out sofa witch is not even long enough for me. The room and the entire hotel is old and needs updates. It smells disgusting and it's extremely humid. All sheets feel wet and it's impossible to sleep. AC is working and the door is closed but is still humid. Curtains in the room have mold. Everything is broken. My son accidentally broke a mini golf stick/witch was old and well used/ and they wanted to charge us $150 . Ridiculous. I was so upset and cried and asked them to wave the fee but nobody cares. All they want is money. You want to switch rooms you have to pay for upgrade. $150 for a mini golf stick??? $300 to move us to room with two beds??? The beach was full with seaweed yesterday, it was impossible to see the water let alone swim . Pools are nothing worth mentioning. I am extremely disappointed. And so are so many other people. A guy was threatened today that he will be kicked out with his family because he made a comment about the way raw meet was handled. I still can't believe how they don't care about trying to make people comfortable. I slept no more than couple of hours last night. My feet in the air because the sofa is not long enough. And smells disgusting.

Room curtains. NO!

What's to Love

The sparkling champagne and icy towels that clear out your travel cobwebs.

Swimming with the darling dolphins at the Dolphinarium. (They kiss & handshake, too).

The suites with swoon-worthy views of teal waves, dolphins or manicured gardens.

The comfy beds and even comfier bathrobes and slippers.

Turndown service each night with chocolates. Sweet dreams.

The private white sand beach with the 30-person Jacuzzi. Woot!

Explorer's club (kids 3-12) with everything from sand castle contests to Plant a Tree & Corn Harvest Project.

Red Cross certified staff supervise the aforementioned club. A relief, right?

Parents get a pager from the Explorer's club, should they be needed for anything.

Treatments like the Post-Sun Exposure Soothing Facial and Chocolate Body Wrap. Delish.

The Stargazing Rock 'n Roll party. Aahh-mazing stuff.

Dining by the ocean with only the stars and candles to light your night. There's a fee, but life is short.

What We'd Change

The resort's beach offers shallow waters so, while you won't be wave-surfing here, bring your snorkel gear and splash into the crystal-clear waters and explore the amazing coral reefs.
