Not a good "all inclusive" experience

On the plus side, the staff were terrific, the grounds were beautiful, and the rooms were roomy, clean, and well maintained. The beach and waterfront were a disappointment. Most of the beach area was sea wall or rocky. There was only about a 40 foot stretch of sandy access to a swimming area that was too shallow for snorkeling and blocked off from the ocean by an ugly break-water. Kayaks, and paddle boards were only available for short duration on an adjacent even shallower lagoon that was surrounded by condos. Snorkeling equip. (no fins) was available for only one hour at a time. With the exception of a very pleasant but short catamaran sail, almost every other excursion or activity cost extra. People selling these excursions were everywhere. Most uncomfortable however was the three levels of access to facilities (regular, privileged, and exclusive) that made one always feel like they were either excluding other guests or being excluded themselves. The top tier came with buying into their time-share program which was constantly being pushed. All in all not the best experience I've had.

Pleasently surprised

This was the first time I used Cheap Caribbean, I have traveled out of the country at least 20 times. They were 1st class, no problems or mix ups at all. I loved the resort, it wasn't real big but it had everything I needed, it was compacted, the service was excellent and the food was good. The Japanese restaurant was the best of all. The one and only problem was the trip from the airport to the hotel it took us 3 hrs., which was quit upsetting. But that is the only complaint I have.

Exceptional Experience From Start to Finish

My girlfriend and I recently returned from a short but much need week long vacation to the beautiful Riviera Maya in Mexico. Our stay at Catalonia was exceptional and easily exceeded our expectations. The resort is conveniently located inbetween Playa del Carmen and Tulum, which provided us quick, safe and easy access for all the exploring, tours, and site seeing we prioritized on our trip. Hotel staff were very friendly, professional and accommodating. We opted to go with the privelaged all inclusive, and would highly recommend it as it provided the extra level of customer service and amenities we greatly appreciated. The buffet was a great outlet to get a quick bite or snack before heading out on a day on adventures, and the a la carte specialty restaurants were a great way to cool down and have a delicious meal while reminiscing about all the new memories created earlier in the day. Our room was ocean view and spacious, and we always came back to it refreshed as new from the house keeping staff. Although we have yet to start a family, the resort provided what seemed to be a broad range of activities that accommodated both young couples looking for romance or a lively party atomosphere, yet it was also very family friendly offering a lot of activities to the kids, including- pool side games and the night time theater performances (Aladdin, Disney, Broadway, etc.) all of which were included in the booking price at no additonal costs. Overall we were very happy with our stay, and wish we could've stayed longer. We definitely would return to Catalonia on our next visit to the Riviera Maya, and would highly suggest you to do the same. Thanks again everything, and hope to see you all again soon.

Beautiful spot to vacation!

Grounds were beautiful!!! Individual restaurant food was very good. Buffet food was average. Our room was very nice. The only negative was that the showers in the bathrooms worked intermittently. At times there was literally no water coming out - generally this happened during the times most people would take showers. This was very frustrating when we wanted to get ready for dinner or get ready for the day. One other negative is that there were only 3 kayaks which prevented 2 couples to kayak together. Overall Catalonia was a very nice place to stay. The people that worked here are very nice!

What's to Love

It's an all-inclusive, family-friendly bundle of beachy greatness.

Throwing back a welcome cocktail after finally arriving in paradise.

The much-needed, all-soothing hydrotherapy treatment at Spa Alegria.

Movin' & groovin' at the weekly beach party (with a savory drink in hand, of course).

What We'd Change

Catalonia Resort Riviera Maya has expansive grounds but doesn't feel like a mega-resort. Its rooms are housed in smaller buildings and villas and the natural setting keeps it feeling intimate.

Why You Should Go

It's an hour from the airport - patience is a virtue. You'll be on the sand soon.

Between the gym, land sports and water sports, the vacay weight will be easy to keep off.

The nightly shows at the theater will keep you nice and entertained every evening.

Upgrade to Privileged and fancy a private lounge, spa benefits and the Pure bar on the beach.
