Most value and the best service and destress

Spirit surprised me with their efficiency Only a problem with website with check in for kids Transferwas from company easy and superb Hotel impressive and clean Japanese and steakhouse restaurant the best La brisa -workers worked hard to seat and accommodate “hot chocolate and juice for kids” Pool and beach great Animotion with rodrigo( better watch out Disney will be looking for him he is an asset and gets all involved in pool and other activity) Get the pool chairs early- they get taken by 6 am Also do a chichinitza tour There is $3 tax when departing Also ask for extra towels and wash rags if more than 2 per room Otherwise great value True Spanish value and consistency Catalonia a must

Beware

My Family & I were super excited about the vacation. We visit that part of Mexico up to 4 times per year. We usually stay at RIU properties but wanted to try something different. That was our first mistake. First off the grounds are beautiful as to be expected. Our room was spacious, clean and comfortable. That's about it for the positives. Buffet food is strait awful. I mean to the point it was just funny. I'm an Executive Chef of a major resort in Las Vegas and their food & beverage operation is in major need of work. Starting with service. We always experience some of the best service in that area. Not at this resort. Service was rude, and inattentive to say the least. You have to make reservations for the specialty restaurants. OK. It took us over an hour to make reservations for the week. I kid you not an entire hour. We wanted to plan out all of our meals ahead of time but they proceeded to tell us that the only dining options for us for the entire week was at 10:00pm. Are you kidding me yet when we walked by the restaurants on our first night they were all not even half full. The second night we ate at the tapas restaurant. That night I proceeded to get violently ill as did my daughter to the point I spent the next 2 days in bed and absolutely ruined my vacation. It was the worst experience ever.. Combine that with the electricity constantly going out, never received room service 2 days in a row and just overall bad resort management. This place needs a lot of work. Hopefully they can get it together.

Relaxing and Fun

First impression the Catalonia Resort is much more green and scenic than I imagined. The host are friendly and gave excellent service. The beach areas are a good size, you can take a look at the fish and wildlife. What I like most is you can bike ride along the resort and get out for a bit on your own in a safe zone. The buffet has food for everyone and had a great array. Would recommend this resort to anyone.

Honest review

Once off the plane, EVERYONE is trying to sell you something (very pushy) The resort is about an hour from the airport. Check in was easy but once inside, sales people try to sell you excursions and upgrades all day, everyday. You cant make eye contact with them. I don't think they are resort employee's but some type of sub contractors. The beach and water was mostly weed covered even though they worked each morning raking and bagging. Food was average, drinks were good, staff was friendly and rooms were clean. We had a few minor room issues that we reported at check out. I think when we go back to Mexico we would shop around on Cheap Caribbean for a higher reviewed resort.

What's to Love

It's an all-inclusive, family-friendly bundle of beachy greatness.

Throwing back a welcome cocktail after finally arriving in paradise.

The much-needed, all-soothing hydrotherapy treatment at Spa Alegria.

Movin' & groovin' at the weekly beach party (with a savory drink in hand, of course).

What We'd Change

Catalonia Resort Riviera Maya has expansive grounds but doesn't feel like a mega-resort. Its rooms are housed in smaller buildings and villas and the natural setting keeps it feeling intimate.

Only guests staying in Privileged rooms get access to all seven a la carte restaurants while guests in other rooms have access to three--good thing they are delicious either way!

Why You Should Go

It's an hour from the airport - patience is a virtue. You'll be on the sand soon.

Between the gym, land sports and water sports, the vacay weight will be easy to keep off.

The nightly shows at the theater will keep you nice and entertained every evening.

Upgrade to Privileged and fancy a private lounge, spa benefits and the Pure bar on the beach.
