Very nice vacation

We stayed at the catalonia playa maroma last week. When we arrived we were greeted with a welcome cocktail. Our room wasn't ready so we went to the buffet for a bite. Great selection for breakfast and lunch and very delicious. (We didn't have dinner there) The resort is feel like you are walking through the forest and there are monkeys and coatis running around. Our room was beautiful. Make sure you don't leave any electronics out or they will not make up your room. There are 5 restaurantsto choose from.....the spanish and japanese were awesome. The grill and Italian restaurants weren't that great. We didn't bother going to the mexican because we wanted to go to the Japanese again. There is a crepe restaurant and also a coffee shop. So there is plenty of variety. The service at the restaurant, pool and beach is very good. The pool is very nice with plenty of seating and umbrellas and also beds. The beach is beautiful with white sand and plenty of palm trees. The only downside is the seaweed makes the water look dirty. The hotel tries to clean up the seaweed but it is never ending task. Would definitely recommend this resort.

Best trip ever

We went On this trip to celebrate my daughters high school graduation ! We loved this resort ! The food options were amazing & the staff was very friendly ! The wildlife on the resort from the monkeys & iguanas in the trees along with the photographers with parrots to take pics with only added to the experience ! The beach wasnt the best due to the seaweed ,but with the pool size and set up we forgot about the beach ! Everything about this resort was perfect ! I will be back with my entire family the next time I visit !

Good hotel for the budget people and very relaxing

What we like about the hotel is the jungle type theme. Very relaxing when walking between lobby and pool area. We even enjoy seen the wild animals. Pro: Big rooms and very clean Alcohol drinks were good. Especially the margaritas. Staff were really friendly and saying Hola all the time. Entertainment was good at pool, at night with daily show and disco Security is good. Two gate to get inside the hotel area. Pool was good and big. Two bars around. One inside and one outside. Cons: Food was OK in the buffect area. Not a big deal but at least you won't be hungry. Taco stand we didn't like it. Had no flavor. We had a strawberry flavor milkshake and tasted like medicine. Only pepsi product which the Pepsi was the only one that tasted good. We only did the Italian A la carta and it was ok. Food was good but appetizer they only give you one piece of tomato bruschetta. People beach toweling around the pool. They put the towel in the chair and walk away for all day not letting someone else use the chairs. Please note the beach was nice and clean except for the sargasso. Which is not really the hotel fault. We even have the same issue back at home.

Worst AI experience to date!!

It has taken me some time to write this review (almost a year, travel was 7/18/2018) because I'm not typically one to write about a negative experience, I just simply won't go back. However, I also understand that the only way a business can improve is if they are told where they need improvement, so here goes. My wife and I stayed at the Catalonia Royal Tulum last year and had a great stay. When we decided to take our young adult daughters to the Riveria for the first time we selected the Catalonia Moroma. First, we booked this trip 6 months in advance and had requested rooms next to each other as the girls were 20 and 17. When we arrived to check in, we were told that would not be possible and they had us separated by a few rooms. Strike One. Next, we get to our rooms and we notice right off that that our room is not as cool as our girls' room. I call and I'm told that it takes a time to cool the rooms down sometimes after having the door open? So we give it a few hours and after dinner and a swim at the pool we get back and the room is still not cooled down. I had to call 2 more times and finally after another hour, maintenance shows up. 30 minutes later we are told that they will have to move us to another room, second floor, even further from our daughters. We are promised that they will move us the next day closer and give us rooms next to each other. When we get to the second room, it's cooler but still not as cool as we would like, but after a day of travel, the room looks like it was not thoroughly cleaned (the coffee pot with coffee still in it was a dead giveaway) but, we make the best of it with the promise of a new day. The next morning after breakfast, I go to the front desk and ask about getting us moved back closer to our girls and the young lady bluntly tells us that it's not possible as they are full. I inform her that the previous night manager told us, promised us that we would be moved and she tells us that he should not have told us that as they are full. I then ask if they will please at least look at the A/C in the room they moved us to and she said they would. We left the resort and went into Playa Del Carmen for the day and when we returned, our room hadn't even been cleaned. We also noticed that it's still not that cool in the room compared to our daughters' room. I call down to the front desk and ask for help again. I was told they were behind on cleaning rooms and they would check the a/c issue......the room finally gets cleaned while we are at dinner. When we get back the a/c still isn't cold. I call again to be told that the a/c is working at its capacity and there is nothing that can be done. The next morning I make a final attempt to speak with a manager. After explaining our experience so far to another manager, I am bluntly told that there is nothing that can be done. They are full, the a/c is as cold as it will get and she doesn't even offer to provide a resolution and walks away from me and goes and helps another guest. With much restraint, I choose to not make a scene and be 'one of those guests'. So at this point, we decided to try and make the best of a bad situation. We visit Playa del Carmen again, go on a sailing excursion to Isla Mujeres, and stay at the pool as much as possible. The beach is a bust as the seaweed is so bad (smell and quantity) that you have to climb a 3 ft wall just to get to the ocean. Food is average. Restaurants are limited to Privileged guests and the buffet areas do not have a/c (surprise!!). Needless to say, it was a long 7 days and we will not ever return to this resort, and I would be very wary of any Catalonia property in the future.
