Good times

Upon my arrival I was greeted with a drink, upon checking in I was provided with a resort map, a schedule of Showtime and entertainment. I was also invited to join a presentation for their circle one membership. They will try to push the membership on you I had to declined, and just went to receive the hundred dollar coupon. On the resort there are these cute little creatures that walk around in packs they are super adorable! I went to the Maya ruins/cenote (sink hole) in Yucatán. I also went to Coco Bongo which is a must! Unfortunately in Amstar representative was never at the resort the days I was there I had to book my Maya excursion with another rep travel representative at the resort. I had to email cheapcarribean for a pick up time from resort to airport. The two buffets have different options to pick from and the specialty restaurants are decent. It rained two days I was there, they are redoing the pool and cleaning out the beach, which I didn’t get in. I remained in the pool area, their pool entertaining staff are awesome and super friendly. Over all I had a good time.

Great place

Great food! Make your reservations early tho. Fantastic steak at steak house, ask for medium if you like medium well. Italian was the absolute best! Beach was being repaired from sand erosion. Even tho they spray for mosquitoes, still bring spray. Bring your own thermal cup to keep your drinks cooler longer. Make sure to walk down to the lagoon, very worth it, 10min walk. Pool games were so much fun, more than any other resort we'd been to. Not to much seaweed, the ocean bottom has a muddy texture, nothing that they can help, the pools really do make up for it tho. Make sure to enjoy the swing bar after dinner. The wine is a bit gross, but the sangria is great! Diving and snorkel shop on property, very convenient, Rudy was awesome. Drink a Cesar when you finally get sick of the sugary drinks. If you tip the maid, make sure to leave it under the pillow and separate from the guys who stock your fridge, they are not one in the same. There are lamb chops you can order at the oriental restaurant, Only about 18 usd and is very worth it. Trolly comes every 10-15 minutes. Really fun foam party in the sand too.

Average bang for the buck

The gem of Blue Bay Grand was the guests the resort attracts. The property was beautiful, and we'll kept. Hildi the bartender at the beach bar, went above the line of duty to make sure I had a good time. My room was in building 5, first floor, which was down by the beach and main pool, great location. Room was cleaned every day. The overall service was ok, not great.Overall, I thought the resort was decent for the price. The people I meet there made my vacation. The activities at the main pool helped me meet people, and have a great time. I was not harassed about buying time share. I had a great vacation, and would consider going back.

Honeymoon in Sept.

Alright so my Wife and I went to the resort for our honeymoon. It did not have the highest rating but it wasn't bad so we figured why not. The resort itself is massive and it is apparently a 5-star. So we get to check in and they tell us they are overbooked but no worries they will put us in a Suite the first night at no cost to us. So that was cool. The room had its own little pool and the A/C in the bedroom area worked great. The rest of our trip, 4 more nights, we stayed in a Garden facing room. The room itself was not bad but the A/C simply did not work. It blew our air but it was not even remotely cold. Huge disappointment. This was our only issue with the room, however, when its 80 degrees basically 24/7, its a problem. Now for the food. Upon checking in and looking on the site it listed several restaurant options for dinner as well as three buffet options for breakfast and lunch. Apparently one of the restaurants was shut down for the season because they were entering their offseason. Not a huge deal as we had two other options. The buffet's themselves were decent but after 5 days I had enough. The dinner options that we had were excellent. However, it says the restaurants are open daily and they are not. They rotate which restaurants are open on each day. So that was a bit frustrating because it limited our choices. The dinner at the restaurants was very good. The steakhouse was by far the best. Now for the pools and beach. The beach is rocky as others have said. Going into the Ocean is interesting to say the least. The Ocean floor is either all seaweed or extremely squishy and not a favorite of mine at all. The water was not clear at the resort. A short walk down the beach to another resort and there was clear water. Apparently they are attempting to correct this issue but only time will tell. As for the pools. The one pool up by the lobby is rather small so we did not spend any time there. The larger pool is decent. The tiles are extremely sharp and I cut my foot open one day on them. Apparently this was a common problem. In fact on the day we were leaving they shut the large pool down completely as they are now going to remove the tile and refinish the pool which should help. However, if you are going anytime soon I would find out the pool options ahead of booking. Overall the resort is not terrible. I would not stay there again. If you can get a good deal on it then I would say it doesn't hurt to check it out. But if you have multiple options at the same price or even a little more to go elsewhere.

Hotel Description

Bluebay Grand Esmeralda: Luxury Abounds at this All-Inclusive Retreat

Warm, frothy water spills over and around you. You're stretched out in a private Jacuzzi, on the terrace of your suite, at the all inclusive Blue Bay Grand Esmeralda on the Mayan Riviera. Just 10 minutes from Playa del Carmen, this award-winning resort is the perfect escape from everyday cares. It's also a great base for exploring Mexico's Yucatan Peninsula.

As you stroll along the private beach, cast an eye toward the thatched Mayan roofs in this 180-acre, tropical paradise. When you're ready to challenge wind and water, grab a windsurfing rig from the beach, in front of the resort, and embark on an adventure. Or if you prefer the undersea world, you'll find snorkeling and diving opportunities nearby.

Two, huge, free-form pools occupy more than 30,000 sq ft between the main buildings of Blue Bay Grand Esmeralda and the beach. Designer chaise lounges, deck-side and within the pools, invite guests to take it easy. But you'll also find plenty of activity in the pools, from aquatic spinning to pool volleyball. When you prefer to stay dry, catch a beach volleyball game, or try the two tennis courts.

After an active day, consider pampering yourself with the "Labyrinth of Sensations," at the hotel's state-of-the-art spa. This thermal-bath circuit awakens your body with a footbath, sauna and vapor therapy. The spa offers special packages for couples, as well as for pregnant women.

A dining dilemma awaits you. Should you choose salmon fillet with gorgonzola cheese, accompanied by red-pepper, mashed potatoes and Mediterranean vegetables, at Il Cuore Di Rossi? Or will it be beef medallions in Roquefort sauce, at L'Atelier?

After a great night in one of the rooms or suites at Bluebay Grand Esmeralda, you're ready to start exploring the fascinating, and even haunting, Mayan pyramids at Chichen Itza, about three hours away. Another fun outing near the hotel is Xcaret Park. Snorkel in one of two underground rivers at the park, or swim with dolphins. From its butterfly pavilion to the bat cave and turtle farm, Xcaret Park is as special as this Blue Bay Resort.

This hotel is All-Inclusive.

  • Accommodations as selected
