Very Family Friendly

This was a great and enjoyable experience for our family. Staff was very friendly and helpful, resort was clean and well groomed. The only complaint was that we were not informed that the restaurants that are "a la cart" require pants for ALL adult men. If you plan on eating at one of the many restaurants I suggest that you pack a couple pair of pants. Which I suggest as a delicious break from the many buffet style eateries.

Barcelo Maya Palace June 2019

Barcelo Maya Palace was a fantastic beach vacation. Staff was courteous and friendly, pools and beach were beautiful, hotel room was clean and spacious and there was plenty to do! The seaweed problem in the Riveira Maya was a concern for me before I left but I should not have spent a second worrying about it. There was some seaweed to be seen piled up on the Palace Beach but we walked a short way down to the Tropical section and the water couldn't have been more clear! My kids both snorkled out past the seaweed at the Palace beach to see the sea turtles that hang out there. They come right up to you! A free swim with sea turtles! Who can beat that? I would bring your own snorkel gear as the stuff you get to use for free at the resort requires you to fill out a waiver for each person and has an hour time limit. Its not worth the hassle. Also water shoes are a good idea. Parts of the beach are rocky and that's where the best snorkeling is. The pools are huge with activities going on. The one thing I will suggest is to bring noodles, pool floats, toys, etc. They are so cheap at home and will cost you $20 and up at the gift shop. Also, there are signs saying not to reserve your spot at the pool, but if you don't by 9am, there isnt a chair to be had at the pool. My husband would go down in the morning, throw a few towels and personal belongings on a couple of chairs and set off for breakfast. The food at Barcelo is pretty good. We tried Capri (Italian), Brasserie (French) and Kyoto (Japanese Hibachi) restaurants during our stay. We all liked the Hibachi the best. Food at the other restaurants was good as well. The buffet is plentiful and there is something for everyone there. We spent a day at Xel-Ha while we were there and had a blast. Floating in the mangrove cenote, zip lining into the water, snorkeling, ropes course, biking, etc. The park is all-inclusive and provides snorkeling gear, towels and lockers. There are a lot of other additional cost activities so research that before you go. There are shows every night that we did not attend and there is a mall where you can skate, a bowling alley, a mini golf course and shops. There is a free dolphin show every day at 11:30 at the Dolphinarium. Basically, there are so many activites I don't see how you could do them all in one trip. Some are complimentary and some have a charge. Our hotel room was great, we had a basic junior suite and it was clean, cool and the shower pressure was good. All the things I need in a room! We had two double beds for two adults and two kids but there were also two little twin sized pull out beds they made up every day so in theory it was big enough to sleep six. Check in and check out were both easy and painless. Random other tips: Men need to wear long pants to the restaurants so make sure to pack a few pair of pants. The buffets and pool bars are fine with bathing suits and cover ups so there is really no need to pack any 'day clothes'. Its bathing suit for the day and nice outfits for dinner at night. I packed a couple of shorts/shirt outfits and never even wore them. People fed the sea turtles bananas (weird) but that seemed to bring them around. That's all I can think of for now, but if you are deciding whether or not to book a trip to Barcelo Maya Palace I would say definitely GO! It was fantastic and my family loved it!

We loved it

Just got back from Barcelo Maya Palace. Took my two teenage daughters for 6 nights. Absolutely beautiful hotel... Pools were huge and clean. Room service was amazing, even the floors were mopped every day in my room. The buffet was ok... Omelet stations for breakfast were nice. We tried 4 of the restaurants at night and they were all delicious, especially Tokyo. I was pretty shocked when people would eat at the restaurants and then get up and leave without tipping the waitress/waiter. They served you a 4 course meal, tip them based the monetary value of the meal!!! Overall, we loved it and would come back in a heartbeat. Also did ziplining at Ventura and a day at Xel Ha, both also wonderful. The only thing we would like is better lunch buffet and more night entertainment options.

What's to Love

The all-inclusiveness & all-aah-mazingness of everything.

Chillaxing & living large with an umbrella drink in the padded in-pool loungers.

The anxiety-ousting spa with the flotation tank, Swiss shower & reflexology.

The Kids Club that has wave after wave of fun & a buffet for your beach munchkins.

What We'd Change

Without a door separating the shower from the dressing area in the suite, you may have to learn to share bathroom time wisely or risk getting wet.

Why You Should Go

It's 47 miles south of the airport - just enough time to unwind before you hit Beach Eden.

Don't miss the Dolphinarium, where you can shake fins with these friendly, smiling critters.

For splashy fun, there's windsurfing & water trikes. For less water, try mini-golf.

There's tennis, beach volleyball & a fitness center - or a pool table if you just want to hang.
