What a deal!

Resort was really great at end of August-room looked out to ocean, food was really good. Drinks were great and strong. The service was good. Only downside was beach water was not best for swimming as there was a river that drained into ocean further down so it eventually turned water very brown. You can go kayak, and stand up paddle for free from resort too! Highly recommend and would go back!

Deal of fortune...A GREAT DEAL

We stayed at sunscape hotel, which was chosen for us with the deal of fortune. The hotel was nice for the price, the staff was very helpful and friendly and the atmosphere is more family oriented. If you are not travelling with kids this might not be the best hotel choice for you because kids are everywhere. The only thing I didnt like was the core zone they had there was for kids only, so as adults we were not allowed to shoot pool or play table hockey because that area was for ages 13-17 only. Other than that this was a great location with the newly built mall right next door. We walked out the gate and the mall is right there.

Nice ocean view, clean rooms,

Room: We had a king sized ocean view room. It was clean and you were given 3-4 towels everyday when they cleaned if you left the dirty ones on the ground. You can request to have your bedding changed during your stay too. The room was nice the air worked good and stayed cool if you shut blinds during the day. This came with a TV most channels in spanish a few in english and some wacked uo version of fox that skipped so you couldn't understand and was edited. Pool: We were not that impressed with the pool because it was a warm day and the day pass people make it crowded and take advantage of everything as much as they can. We had a week long stay and went in the pool twice because there was too many annoying kids that were ill supervised and it made the pool too hot. There should be a portion of the pool on one of the sides of the bridge where adults only can be. I think this resort with limited pool space would be better suited as an adult resort because with all the chairs around it , and the bridges and kids everywhere theres no room. Beach: The beach areas are clean and the waters clear. We like swimming the waves don't get too high and theres not too much seaweed. We preferred the beach and stay in the "SUN CLUB" area which is just a roped off area on a public beach. This beach gets crowded during the day with locals and they try to sell you stuff all day. I enjoyed purchasing but if I wanted something I would come ask. The security should encourage them to at least not walk through sun club, it didn't feel different at all. They do keep a trained sea hawk by this area to keep pelicans and other pests away. The beach locals selling are nice, some of the men who sell wood carved items have real certs they can earn in their country so try and be respectful that this is a way of life although different. We had some random guy sell us horseback rides on this beach for 30$ a person at sunset which was cool. I feel like the towels the hotel gives you could be cleaner. They only served drinks pool/oceanside not food. Food: The Da Mario restaurant is italian is pretty good but you must be decently dressed. Since its hot my BF didnt bring pants but I just dressed up with heels and jewelry so we would look acceptable they're not too strict. The mexican place has good fresh made food and decent buffet area with different desserts salads and snacks. The seaside grill has one menu for lunch and one for dinner so at least that varies, and the food was good. I feel like this resort has less restaurants but their food is good. Didn't look twice at the buffet food storage needs to be better more cool/hot depending on what they are I wouldn't say this was clean. After a certain amount of time even if the food is not gone it should be thrown out and replaced. I asked one server for ketchup for my boyfriend and he told me to ask the chef which makes no sense. So i go inside thinking maybe its in the back and ask and this worker was rude because it wasn't his problem which I understand but he looked at me and said "what you complaining lady" I said "No I just wanted ketchup" he's like "go ask them" and points so then I got mad because the staff should be respectful. I said clearly I was sent over here. Overall the restaurant service was mediocre besides the servers in the mexican restaurant, and Angelica from Da MArio and a few other nice employees. Language: This might not matter to some people but most of the staff speaks english very well. But at this resort there are many day passers who only speak spanish and will crowd and overtake the food areas bars and not be considerate of the guest who paid a lot of money. If they want this resort to have better reviews I would cut the day passers because that was the main part that made the resort meh. The staff should be nice when we try to use spanish even if its not perfect.

Check in took over an hour with only one family in front of us. We requested our two rooms to be close to each other. Our rooms were three floors away. While walking the property the first day we were approached by management. Management asked if everything was ok. We explained it was our first day and just trying familiarize ourselves with the property. Management asked if check in went good. I explained to him about our rooms being so far away from each other. He said let me see what I can do. Needless to say we remained in our original rooms. Rooms were dirty with ants. Although there were three restaurants open for dinner we could only go to two because we had children under 8 years of age. The other two restaurants seemed to have the same items on the buffet our entire stay (with the exception of a couple items) staff was not very friendly. We would have to wait 5, 10 15 minutes to get a drink from the bar. Regardless if it was an adult beverage, soda, or water. They dunk the dirty glasses in a sink of water and rinse them. They never washed the blenders after making a frozen drink. They would rinse the pitcher but not wash it and they didn't even rinse the lid. My husband is allergic to strawberries so he was afraid to order a frozen drink. I was not allowed to tour the kid's center. The playground was only open for one hour a day for the parents to take their kids.

What's to Love

Family-friendly check-in Hollywood style - red carpet stairs and yummy welcome treats.

Resort passports that send the kids on their own adventure.

With the Sierra Madres & Banderas Bay as the resort's backdrop, your selfies are going to break the Internet (hey, they might!)

Spa luxuries like a Chocolate Body Wrap or a blowout that will make your hair shine.

Golden sandy beaches where you can kayak, windsurf or kick back while the kids make sand castles.

The kids will love the waterslide at the pool!

The Marina Vallarta Golf Club is within walking distance to the resort. Hopefully you won't be yelling "Fore!" too much!

What We'd Change

Booking a Sun Club room would have given us a few more perks that we would've liked, especially room service at night. The kids were completely worn out from all the fun in the sun, and ordering in would have been a treat! Luckily, the restaurant let us take food to-go!

Why You Should Go

You'll have a drink in your hand in no time since it's only 10 minutes from the airport.

El Malecon is nearby with shops, restaurants/bars, art, & clowns performing tricks. (not the scary kind).

Surfs up at the Punta Mita surfing school where the whole family can take on the waves.

You can rent a boat and check out the famous Love Island at the Marietas.

Historical San Sebastian is a short drive away.

Swimming with the dolphins is a must and in the right season, the whale watching will blow your mind.
