Nice resort, far from Cabo, awful food

We always stay at Am Resort, this was our first bad experience. Try to upgrade to a swim out room or the altitude tower, supposedly sold out. But every day we walked by several swim out rooms available. We had a choice on our jr.suite ocean view of 5th floor with 2 beds or 1st floor with king, so no ocean view. The resort was nice and clean. The room was large except for a small bathroom. It's far away from Cabo, 40 each way taxi ride, uber is only 20. You can ride the city bus cheap if you can cross the busy 4 lane without getting run over. The worst part was the food, the omelette on the breakfast buffet was good, lunch and the specialty nights were awful. The best meal was a filet at The Grill at night. I stood in line for 20 minutes for the hibachi to find they only had 1 seat left. So we never ate Italian, Mexican or Japanese restaurants. Don't waste your time with the tropical or Mexican nights, they're a buffet and awful. I would never rate this hotel 4 sun and never return.

Overall good experience

Pool and beach area is excellent! Serving staff were great. Room was clean, well maintained, and beds were comfy. Best sunrise ever! Worth getting up for! The buffet was ok but not great. Room service was good. We went to one specialty restaurant, Risotto, which we enjoyed. We loved the ocean view room but the back of the room was on a very busy road so it was loud at times. Did not like being pressured to listen to a presentation about the hotel chain. Or that hotel staff did not tell me to book my excursions through Amstar, which would have saved me a bundle.

Great Value for What You Pay

The pools and mainly the beaches have just phenomenal views. Suggest exploring toward the far right side of the beach, past the large rocks. Highly recommend the breakfast. Would strongly suggest the smoothie bar and the omelet bar (worth the wait) because the normal eggs at buffet were a let-down.We also realized the busiest times were between 8:00-9:00 so before or after is your best bet. We were greatly disappointed with The Grill. Food and service were way below average. We loved the Mexican restaurant, but were disappointed with the Hibachi Grill. My suggestion would be to get a reservation at the Hibachi place. We talked to another couple who were walk-ins like us and the service was bad. If you're a caffeine lover, highly recommend the coffee shop. Coffee was phenomenal. As far as other views go, you can't beat the rooftop! They have high-end drink options and there was never a crowd (honestly maybe 5-6 people up there during the day). Speaking of, drinks, besides Tecate beer (which I love), the liquor options are all bottom-shelf so you may want to consider bringing your own if you can. Overall, we had a great experience! For what you pay, you can't beat the price! The only other negatives were check-in and the excursion people. There was a line of maybe 5 people and it took us over 30 minutes to check into our room. Also the ladies promoting the excursions (one lady in particular). We had purchased one at the airport prior to arriving at the resort. They somehow knew we had purchased this. Assuming they have some sort of system to find out who has purchased. One lady hounded us to give them our purchasing information. I finally had to tell her to leave us alone after a solid 5 minutes. So just a heads up there. But like I said, overall was a great experience for both my wife and I.

Nice All-Inclusive Resort

Overall, a very nice resort. It is on the main road midway between the airport and busier downtown Cabo. Here's some details about our experience: - They charged adult price for our 15 year old son, which required us to get an extra room. It make no sense - he does not drink the included alcohol and is not a big eater. This was a bad experience during booking. It would have been a great value, but the extra room cost made it a fair price in total. - Truly All Inclusive (everything except tips which are of course optional) - Clean, inside and out - Friendly and helpful staff. Service was excellent. - Significant road noise on door entry side in newer main buildings. Note that the remaining old building, Palmilla, is quieter and will be renovated by the end of 2019 (per the manager). - Food was sub par. The only really good food was the Asian Hibachi restaurant. This was the only big disappointment.
