Fun in the Sun

Wait service on the beach is great, and the views are fantastic, but bring your water shoes for sure as there are lots of rocks both on the beach area and when you enter the water. Entertainment staff tries to get people involved, but not much interest from the people. More of a sit back and relax place rather than an active atmosphere.

Vacation buyer beware !!!

Let me start by saying this was one of the worst resorts I have ever been to. I will truthfully explain why, and I will leave it up to you to drawn your own conclusions. When my wife and I booked this trip is was a reasonable price, and it was all inclusive, however when you get to the resort, it was the basics, room, food and drink. When I say basics, I mean basics, the room was awful it was musty and so outdated. The buffet is so small it was three stations, it looked like a standard snack bar at other resorts, I am not joking. The restaurant are mainly outside in the heat, with these birds that will not stop pestering you, and the staff does nothing about it. We asked for an upgrade in rooms and they charges us several hundred dollars to do so. What that got you was a better room, a nicer room, a standard up to date room. It also got you the access to the preferred pool and lounge, which was a huge waste of money because people from the sister resort (Sunscape) were walking over to Secrets and using the preferred lounge and pool because nobody, and I mean nobody is policing this. There were signs saying you can not use it, but people did not care. Your probably wondering how I know that for sure. Two couples that where on the same plane with us from Houston TX said that were they were staying at Sunscape, and sure enough, we went down to the Preferred pool and they were there beating the system because no one was policing them. It is sad in our society that this occurs but, it does. We had lunch at the oceans cafe, and there were two child eating there, why are children at an adults only resort, cause no one was policing them. Unreal what my wife and I saw there. The staff is not friendly at all. At the barefoot grill the sever Vicky gave us and another family an attitude, and all we asked for was water with our meal. They have a total of four restaurants and the main one was closed on a Saturday, which I believe is probably one of the busiest night of the week. The resort is run on bare minimum with everything. We try to get a late breakfast at 10:30 am and they would not make any food for us because they said they close at 11:00 I am like are you serious, it’s a buffet. Their shows were weak, with cast and entertainment, which they changed mid week thru due to the complaints. They have no theater seating for shows, just a area that was in between stores, the pools where always filled with debris because of under staffing. The beach was nothing but coral for the first ten feet into the water, which made it very difficult to walk on due to the slipperiness and hard surfaces. Me personally, it is a total waste of money and time. Please, vacation buyer beware !!!

Overall we had a great experience, my frustration was not receiving the room we thought we were booking, and at the additional "preferred rate", so we paid more than people around us and they were receiving the same benefits as us. Even a lady who owns a condo down the beach, comes and uses the services because it is an adult only resort and her condo is not.

Good for some

I will say that the price for an all inclusive was reasonable. The service was very good overall, a couple of mishaps at restaurants but still good. The staff was very willing to help in any way they could. The food was ok for my husband and I have celiac so unfortunately I was very limited and they seemed to be a bit limited in their understanding of gluten free. The GF issue is something I can come across anywhere really but for my husband and our neighbors they were never hungry but never very satisfied with the meals for the most part. One thing to note is that this was a hotel that Secrets purchased so they are still working on upgrading many things with the rooms and some outdoor areas so I do think this place will only get better. We wanted to upgrade our room when we first arrived however they were fully booked (it was a busy Sat) so we just went on to the room that we booked. Once we got to the room we were a little disappointed as the room was a bit outdated, it smelled of mildew and the couch was really no other way to say it but disgusting, mildew and stain covered. We got a blanket out of the closet to cover it so we could sit on it. That being said the view for ocean view was fabulous! The next day we were able to upgrade to a swim out room and I have to say that room was 10X better, no mildew smell and a clean and updated couch. We cannot say the same for our next door neighbors though, their swim out room was more like our first room and smelled of mildew. Obviously this is just part of some upgrades already being completed and some not. I did really like our new room and loved the swim out room more than I thought I would. I loved the beach and the great snorkeling right there at the resort, we saw a tom of stuff and had a blast! This is a great place for people that are not looking for too much luxury for now.

What's to Love

Newly renovated in 2015-2016, this resort is all shiny, splashy new.

The salvation of the cool towel and thirst-quenching welcome cocktail when arriving in paradise.

The sleek white, boxy architecture (very glam).

Hip suites with comfy beds that have private balconies or terraces and take-your-breath-away views.

Scuba diving at the epic Mesoamerican Barrier Reef and being awed by the fabled coral reefs.

You can take scuba lessons at the Dive House. Sweet.

The candlelight dinner for two on the beach while the purr of the waves serenades you.

Secrets box for private room service delivery - you don't ever have to see a human if you don't want to.

Snorkeling under the dock that boasts stingrays and parrot fish. (One beach lover even saw a barracuda).

The world-class spa with Seaweed Wraps, invigorating hydrotherapy and exotic indigenous treatments. Swoon.

A pier to wander out on and get hypnotized by the point where the blue water meets the azure horizon.

What We'd Change

Cozumel doesn't have as many activities as Cancun. After all, it is an island. But Secrets always has a lot of adult-only activities to keep you entertained.

Why You Should Go

You're just 20 minutes away from the airport so your rockin' vacay will start before you know it.

You're just 15 minutes away from downtown Cozumel. Just a $15 (U.S. dollars) to cab it there.

You can upgrade to Preferred Club which means better rooms, private swimming pool, and much more.

The mysteriously cool Chicen Itza and Coba Ruins are a short hop away. (Ooo-ahhh).

Lit tennis courts. Woot!

You can improve your game on an 18-hole golf course designed by the great Jack Nicklaus.

The largest beachfront in Cozumel is out back.

You can try you hand at kayaking, Hobie cats and water volleyball - don't be shy. Dive in!

Bring your aqua shoes - the beach is like finely ground seashells.

Most restaurants require men to wear long pants and no flip flops.

Probably no going shirtless or tank tops, unless you're a male Abercrombie model.
