Great time
We had a great time. The pool and bar pool could be open longer. The shows at night could be earlier like 8:30 pm. The food at the buffets was good could be a little hotter. The bed could be comfortable. But for the long run we had a great time. The staff was great and pleasant. There is so much to see. The other guess are were friendly. Meet a lot of new people.
We did the 7 day all-inclusive package, and it was wonderful. Food was plentiful and delicious, service staff and other resort employees were friendly and helpful. Perfect way to start a marriage!!!
A very relaxing week. Service at hotel from the Bars, Restaurants, Housekeeping & Lobby were great. If you want a vacation that you can relax/unwind and get plenty of rest, this is the place for you.
Resort was very nice and spacious. Does not disappoint with the wildlife. Was a little bit of a let down with the dinning. The Tex-mex option was great but the buffet and steakhouse not as impressed. Staff was friendly but that was about it. Disappointed that everything closes so early such as the beach bar, pool and pool bar. Was not very happy with Jeep tour that was offered to us. Has a few hiccups with that but the guide was fun and made the best of the situation.

Can you go topless on the beach and the resort?11 answers
8 years, 97 months ago
odie
All of the beaches in Mexico are public, so nude sunbathing is not permitted and topless sunbathing is not encouraged, however it is not unusual to see some topless sunbathers on the beach.
KateB
no, you cannot go topless. The dress code was conservative.
Scampalina
Allowed on the beach only.
Anchorman
I was told that the beach is topless (but not the pool) Fortunately everyone kept their tops on!
Trudita
Hi Odie,
I just got back Fri, after being there for a week. I think the answer is 'optional'. There was one couple on the beach, and she went topless. Saw her at the beach two days. Saw no one topless by the pool.
Hope that helps!
AirMike
This is frowned upon....
CantWaitForVaca
I did not see anyone topless at this resort. I was told the topless resorts were on the other side of the island. They did not have an adults only area but they did have 2 rooms you could upgrade to that had private swimming pools. I am sure you could go topless there.
AmyLyn
Only on the beach.
amedv
No
MarkR
topless for males only

There are signs that say "no topless" at the pool and beach.

Are alcoholic beverages included at this resort? Iberstar Cozumel.11 answers
The resort info of Iberstar Cozumel was :International and domestic beer, wine, soft drinks and hot drinks. Doesn't indicate alcoholic mixed drinks.

We have contacted Iberostar Cozumel on your behalf to confirm that alcoholic drinks are included such as Rum, Whiskey, Tequlia, etc. It will be domestic brands that are offerred to you.
DanielleCC
Yes, Bruce. We just left there Fri morning, after a week. My girlfriend is a rum and coke drinker, and I was trying everything frozen from Pina Colada's to Dirty Monkey's (Try those!). They also served wine and beer (Dos Eques).
AirMike
All acohol is included....Dos Equis on tap..Bacardi, Smirnoff, lots of Tequila

How much does it cost to upgrade to an oceanview room?4 answers
7 years, 86 months ago
Amber
CheapCaribbean.com only has a contract with the resort for the Standard Room category. If you would like to upgrade to the OceanView Room category, you may be able to at the time of check-in at the resort. Please note that this upgrade would be based upon pricing and availability at that time.
KristinCC
only a few single story bugalows have ocean views. Contact your travel agent at Cheap Caribbean
Gunter
We had an oceanview room and didn't pay an upgrade fee. I think we got lucky. I'm not sure how we got it. Even though we had it though, we were barely in our room. The property is beautiful, the pool is right by the ocean, so you'll see pleny of it.
rperry
check with the resort. we were happy with where our room was, so we did not ask.
jencookie
We asked to be put in an ocean view room and we were moved to 8303. Great view and no extra charge. Be careful what you wish for though, there are a few rooms that have great ocean views but are right in the middle of everything. I would recommend 8303 or the one above it, great view and off to the side so not in the middle of everything.

Does the beach or pool close at certain time10 answers
6 years, 83 months ago
Gigi
The pools and beach typically "close" at dusk, meaning that the lifeguards are off duty at that time and guests swim at their own risk.
ccsusan1
The pool bar closes at 6:30 pm and I didn't see any pool activity after that time. You're on your own on the beach although they do have a life guard that hangs around the beach bar! If you stay to long the sans flea's will eat you up.
Gunter
The beach is always open the pool closes at 7PM-7AM and pool bar doesnt open until 11 AM
trickrider
the beach is open all the time, but the pool closes at 6pm
DryeFAM
The pool is closed early around 7 I think. The beach is opened all night
beacher2012
The beach bar closed at 5pm and the pool bar closed at 6pm while we were there. The pool was serviced nightly at 7pm

the pool cloese at 7 pm

Coconutty
Beach does not.
The pool and swim up bar closes at 7:00pm because they treat it everyday with chemicals at that time. To be honest, everyone was done swimming at the pool by 7pm anyway and getting ready for dinner.

Are there alot of rocks just off the beach (in the water) or is it nice and sandy?11 answers
6 years, 83 months ago
Omaha
Bring your water shoes so you don't miss a thing! There some rocks and coral on the beach.
KellyCC
The beach is rocky so we wore water socks when we went kayaking and snorkeling (don't touch the pier supports underwater-that's how our daughter was exposed to fire coral).
JDLP
Lot's of rocks. You should wear dive booties with thick soles or something comparable.
Gunter
There are rocks as soon as you get to the water and for 20 yards out but the beach is nice.
DCD1
the rocks begin literally where the water line begins. I'd recommenced sandals or water shoes to enter the water.
TheDude
the coral grows up to the beach.its hard to walk on especially bare foot. but the resort has a long pier that has steps into the water
papahagrid
It's fairly sandy in most areas off the beach. The tricky part can be getting in and out as it's a bit rocky right on the shoreline. They have a ladder entrance off of the boat dock that is easy and has some decent snorkeling (not great, but some stuff to see)
JeffF
the beach was rocky so we just snorkeled at the pier and swam around that way. if you want to go in the water from the beach wear water shoes.
jencookie
mostly the rocks are at waters edge. so if you want to get in wear water shoes.
jencookie
Rocks
Coconutty
Very rocky. Not a sandy beach at all. Wear water shoes or flip flops.

shopping11 answers
Is there shopping close other then the shops on the property?. Someplace that is like a tourest trap to pick up different stuff like hat, shirts, toys ect?
6 years, 82 months ago
Jim
There are multiple shops and boutiques located on the resort's proprty. However, there are also shops located near the resort that are a short cab ride away.
KristinCC
No, you will have to drive to downtown. This is about a 15-20 drive and a taxi with cost you 425 each way.
Gunter
No you have to take a taxi or rent a car about 10-15 min into town. and its 20 bucks a taxi ride to town or back one way
trickrider
The short answer of that is no. You would have to take a trip into the main town to find those items in abundance. The Iberostart gift shop is extensive however and there prices are very reasonable for a hotel gift shop.
DCD1
No. Iberostar is somewhat isolated. The town with all of the tourist traps is a 15-20 min cab ride away.
TheDude
There are a ton of shops downtown for all of that. It's a very short van ride from the resort.
Awright
Not really. There is a guy on the beach with a cart, but his prices are higher than in town. The best shopping is in town, but they are vultures.. be prepared to be firm with your NO's. not interested then walk away. And of course, haggle for the best deal. They'll usually come down to what you want to pay.. unless it's ridiculous, but they pretty much all sell the same stuff.. souvenir wise and they all want you to come in their store. They will even give you free charms and earings just to come in their store, but don't feel obligated to buy.. that's the trick. good luck!
rperry
Along the roads they have little shops like that (hammocks, shirts, etc..). The resorts shop has some pretty good stuff at reasonable prices. If you want lots of selection you will need to go to town - 25-30 minutes.
JeffF
there is a small store on site with souviners and toiletry items. if you want to shop you can take a cab to the ferry pier and walk around or take the ferry over to playa del carmen. more high end stores over there.
jencookie
yes, in town where the cruise ships and ferries are...a $25 US dollar cab ride up to four people
Coconutty
Other than a gift shop at the resort, there is no place to buy gifts. You would probably have to arrange for a car or taxi to take you to town for a greater variety of shopping. There is also a village further down the shore (about a 10 minute drive) that has some shops.

Planning Excursion11 answers
When planning the excursions is it better to buy them online, or can I wait until i get to the resort? Is there a price difference between buying them online or at the resort?
6 years, 82 months ago
Salt Lake City
Wait until you get to the resort, the prices and options are better!
Gunter
You will get better prices and options if you wait until you get to the resort.
Gunter
Generally you get a better price when booking excursions at the hotel. However, if you want to 100% reserve your spot, then book online. But the excursions are rarely full when you get to your hotel.
DCD1
I'd recommend waiting until you're at the resort so you can see what all of the options will be.
TheDude
We waited until we got there & there was no price difference.
Awright
we booked when we got there with Olympus Tours who is also who we booked our airport shuttle transfer with. We got a discount to book with them, rather than book with the person at the resort
DryeFAM
We bought ours at the resort and the prices seemed the same if not cheaper than what I saw online. The resort has a few different companies offering tours and excursions, so there is competition which makes the pricing fair.
JeffF
there was no price difference. and we did ours at the resort. there are other tour operators there as well.
jencookie
There is a cheapcaribean rep and other reps at the hotel that can assist you with excursions when you get there. I did not book mine until I arrived at the hotel.
boulevard
Unless you have reviews from another source, I would recommend the venues at the hotel. They have a few, one in the lobby and then two by the rental cars. Also, it is good to sit at the pool or beach and ask around. The Polaris Jeep / ATV Tour through the lobby I would not recommend. The snorkeling was not good and they tried to do too much in too little time even though it was from 830 am to 430 pm. Do a jeep tour through the CheapCarribean desk at the hotel. Snorkeling and diving from the Dive Shop at the hotel was recommended and I would recommend as well as the National Park 5 miles north called Chakanaab. Good value and lots to do....dolphin, sea lions, massage on beach, snorkel, dive, pool, eat. It had the best snorkeling we saw all week.
Coconutty
I would wait until you get there!
There are a lot of different excursions through different companies that are a lot cheaper than online--- those companies are set up at a station in the lobby. They do not approach you and bug you...it's nice.
elmicrim
Get it online or in the downtown or in playa del carmen depending where you want to go.... ask for the 2 for 1 promotion they all have it and it really will save you half , but in the resort itself it is alms 3 times more...

Can you snorkel off the beach at the resort?11 answers
Is there any decent snorkeling off the beach? Fish or reef to see?
6 years, 78 months ago
NC
Snorkeling is available at the resort and is included in your all inclusive package. Guests have complimentary use of the resort's equipment for one hour per person per day.
KateHCC
Yes, wonderful reefs!!
Petya
Great snorkeling right off the beach, and pier.
ctneal
Yes you can snorkel at the beach. You will see many kinds of fish. Probably the best part of the whole resort.
Leslie99
The snorkelling is amazing right off the beach. The reef is very close.
MrsLew2u
My husband and many others snorkeled right off the end of the pier and were pleasantly surprised by what they saw. Baracudas, sting rays, and many many fish
DryeFAM
There are some fish to see if you snorkel off the beach at Iberostar, but it is limited. A reef is not close -- for reefs near Iberostar you'd have to take a boat (Alberto's beach bar offers a boat trip that's a few hours long, and visits several reefs; you can negotiate rates with them for $35-40USD). If you snorkel off the beach at Iberostar, you may want to consider water shoes as some of the near shoreline is rocky but walkable. There is a pier with a ladder. The Money Bar (closer to town) has some great snorkeling off the shore, they typically like you to buy drinks and/or food for use of the beach chairs. A cab from Iberostar to Money Bar is about $18USD.
MHumphrey
yes you can.... there are schools of fish that hang out right under the pier and even a couple stingrays...
tropicalman
It wasn't great while we were there, although it was very windy. There isn't beach entry to the ocean, you have to climb down a ladder from the dock to get to the water, unless you want to walk over +/- 10 feet of coral.
1234Beachy
You can snorkel off the beach although it's rocky, but there is a great pier on property that you can go down a ladder so you don't have to wade out in the rocks. We found that the only fish were pretty much right by the pier, so if you really want to see a lot of fish and wildlife, you probably better book a snorkeling trip.
rperry
Yes you can snorkel right from the resort. When you walk into the water from the beach theres a lot of coral making it hard to walk so you need to walk along the dock and then into the water. Lots of fish to see right off the dock.

How much does it cost to access the internet ?9 answers

For specific questions regarding pricing for resort amenities which are additional and not included within the all inclusive plan, we do suggest contacting the resort directly as they would be best to assist you. The email address from the resort's website to contact them directly is rrppczm@iberostar.com.mx.
MariaCC
No, I know by the pool but unsure of cost. Call them, the front desk staff speak both English and Spanish, which I was not aware of until I got there. But good to know. They always speak Spanish first though, don't let that throw you off.
Coconutty
You have to pay for Wi-Fi. It was $28 US for 5 days and that is for one device at a time.
Ripley
No complimentary wifi. It is about $3 per day per device but that covers the entire property.
HoustonBuffalo
No wireless access in the rooms. Access is available in the lobby area. You have to pay up front for a length of time. We just got 15 min. so I could check e-mails. I think it was about $2.00-3.00 for 15 min.
Grangrad
You pay for internet wifi access at the front desk. You can get it by the hour for about $4. They also have options for a day, or a week, I'm not sure of those costs as I only opted for an hour the couple of days I wanted access.

Terri,
I had wifi for 5 days and it ran $27 US. The connection was fine and all over the resort. It was reasonable I think.
They had several different options, one, three, five day wifi or something close to that.

Is it best to schedule transportation from and to the airport when booking my resort?10 answers
I am curious if there is any difference on pricing, availability or ease of booking my transportation from the airport to the resort and back. 4 years, 56 months ago

Sunny1212
just take a cab.. is $ 30 up to 4 people from cozumel airport to iberostar the prices are set and it will not be surprises, but just in case ask the driver as soon the ride starts (335 pesos) and 220 pesos from Hotel to downtown, many taxis are available any time in downtown, airport and even the hotel. don't worry about safety or riding at night it is super safe and the hotel keeps record every time you go in and out of it.
Hope it was helpful and have a nice trip.

Hello,
We would recommend taking roundtrip airport transfers. They are prepaid in advance, so you have no worries about obtaining a taxi ride.
CoryCC
In my travels to the Riviera Maya and now Cozumel, we have used the transportation Cheap Caribbean offers, and it has always been flawless. You may be able to save a few bucks another way, but for the quality of service we have had, I will conti ue to use it.
FlatlandDiver
I do not know if you already took this trip or not. We booked cheaper transportation than what cheapcarribean was offering. Unfortunately I forget where but I just googled it. I would not take a cab just because they could so easily over charge you but they are readily available
YearlyTraveler13
Taxis are available at the airport and they're reasonably priced. Walk straight to the exit though and hail your own taxi. OR rent a car...you won't regret it. Most fun is having the freedom to explore the island at your own pace. Beware though...take your time and realize that driving laws are for gringos and scooters are everywhere. We rented a small fiat convertible and had a blast driving around the island. Come and go as you wish and stop and look at whatever you want whenever you want. Can't beat it.
MayanCowboy
The transfer gets you shuttled to Iberostar without worrying if you are going to the right place or if the taxi driver is gouging you. We were dropped second after a younger couple was dropped off at another resort about 5 km before Iberostar. Coming back they actually arrange a taxi to bring you to the airport. From Iberostar to downtown (center of the ocean blvd is $20 plus tip. The airport is about 5 km further so I think it is about $25 plus tip for the taxi to/from Iberostar and the airport. It was very efficiently handled so I'd recommend going with the transfer.
CnG10022004
No just take a taxi! They know exactly where to go for 18 dollars as compared to 79 from the resort for the same taxi!

You can purchase excursions before you leave from CheapCaribbean.com, or you may purchase them from Amstar in destination.
KristenCC
You can purchase excursions at the hotel. There are representatives from CheapCaribbean.com as well as at least two other agencies at the hotel off the main lobby. If you purchase them through the agency you are pretty safe from what we heard from others, if you go with a barker off the street you don't know what you're going to get. Bottom line is if you want to do excursions, check on line first then either book them on line or print out and bring the pricing and other details with you and make sure you get what you want for the right price.

Depends, I'd suggest that you always prepay, it makes the trip hassle-free. Otherwise if you are getting a cab, make sure to define the cost up front at there are no meters in the cabs. Depending on where your resort is, I'd negotiate the price. We were almost to the Southern tip and paid $20 one-way. If you are in the middle of the resort, $15 may be more appropriate.

The resort also offers family friendly, live entertainment in the evening at the theater.
Babysitting and child care are available after hours for an additional charge.
CaitlinCC
There were quite a few kids the age of your daughter when we went down last week. They have a lot of activities for the kids and the Star Team does a great job of including the kids in activities all day long and into the evening. The gal who manages the kids program must be amazing with kids, they were always running up to her to give her big hugs - super cute!
ColdInMN
Yes! Activities on the beach, at the pool, in the shade, in the evening & special treats, We want to take our 3 grandsons (ages 3 - 12) back next year! And from what we observed, the staff was great with them.
Ranchhandpam
There were activities at the pool and beach daily for children and there was also a mini show during the evenings that was just for kids to participate in.
SarahLynne
It is very kid friendly. Lots and lots of fun things to do. The activities staff are among the greatest I have been around. Last year was the first time my husband actually said he wouldn't mind staying an extra week. Usually he is bored after several days. The staff even kept him entertained. The nightly shows are not to be missed either. They are the best we have seen from any all inclusive staff in any country.

Excursions can be booked in advance with Cheapcaribbean. If waiting until travel to book, there should be a tour desk at hotel which arranges tours.
CCGreg
Yes, the people at the hotel can book excursions for you. Be sure to try to get some "deals" though; like 2 for 1.
Ranchhandpam
They have booths set up next to the front desk to book excursions. Prices are very reasonable.

Yes there are several on sites personal to book with. I highly recommend the ATV's at wild adventures! It was great. The value and the excitement and fun. Our guide Oscar was top notch. I can not recommend that place more. Also jeeps are available for a fair price at the resort and I recommend renting one and exploring the island on your own
Senorjay
Yes, they have three companies there. How with the Amstar people in the back.
Spontaneoustraveler
Yes, they've got a place set up by the lobby with people to help w/ that.

There are different travel companies located at the resort to help you plan and book excursions. Also a car rental company. Makes it very easy!
We rented a jeep and went to the east side of the island twice- great!!
Also did a snorkeling excursion that left right from the pier at the resort!

Yes, they have a great concierge that can book anything you want to do, from scuba diving to renting scooters to a trip to Chichen Itza. He's great.

I know the mainland is being inundated, but I wonder if this part of Cozumel is, too?
3 years, 43 months ago

The beaches around the resort are clean and clear.....enjoy.
Madnad10
It is not. My husband and I just returned on Thursday and because of the location of the resort on the Gulf side of the island, it is sea weed free.
ShellyandMartinBush
Eastern Caribbean shores are the most heavily affected areas. Iberostar Cozumel faces west and there are no reports of a seaweed problem there at this time.
CCGreg
No seaweed. Beach is all reef though.
MandJ
The beach front yes. They rake it up in the morning from the sand. The reef prevents you from swimming in the water so hard to tell how far out you would have to go to avoid it.

Snorkeling can be done right there in the water by the resort , however I heard many people preferred to take the option of going out on a chartered tour further into the reefs. The fish are Sialkot out in the later afternoon, just bring bread :)

Iberostar does not have good snorkeling unless you go out on a boat. I highly recommend the trip to Xelha for snorkeling you take the ferry to Playa Del Carmen & you can take bus from there. Xelha is all inclusive natural park. Also has Ziplines. You can pay extra for Dolphins, manatees, etc.

Yes, we booked this last year. They are called family rooms. You are guaranteed 2 rooms, 1 with king bed and 1 with 2 beds (can't remember full or queen). When we arrived it wasn't very busy so we were able to pick the location of room we wanted based on what was available. I did my research and knew which buildings were one story and close to pool so I was able to pick very quick and easy. Last year it was cheaper to book family room than to book 2 rooms. This year for my dates I'm looking at it is cheaper to book 2 rooms.

Can you walk on the beach for miles?5 answers

1 year, 17 months ago

The beach is longer on the south end, however I never really tried to walk it, so I'm not sure HOW long it is. There are ZERO beach vendors. You are quite isolated (in a good way!) from the other resorts.
courtneyyjoyy
I didn't see any timeshare sales people at the resort. However, as you are exiting customs at the airport you see all of them pretending to be there from your hotel. Please go directly to the taxi or the hired shuttle to your hotel or otherwise you will lose time with the timeshare sharks. The beach was long enough for a possible 30 min walk. I wouldn't recommend going further than that. The area is still very wooded and I have no idea what you can find if you travel any further by foot.

Long walks yes, miles? Not sure about the distance. Probably a mile or more. I took several longs walks and seen very few people and was never bothered by anyone.. September 2017
