Great family vacation
This resort was fantastic. The beaches were amazing, the sunsets were spectacular and my family had a ton of fun. My only complaints are 1: you have to pay for Wi-Fi. I I am a busy person and need access to my emails and texting for my business so it was a let down that you had to pay for the Wi-Fi. I do have free Mexico and Canada roaming through Verizon but the service at the resort was not conducive to using it. The only time I was able to connect through roaming was if I left the resort. The other thing that was not so great about the resort was the food. The three restaurants that you have to book were amazing. But the buffet that you eat for every other meal was not good. The staff was amazing though! They go out of their way to make you happy. My kids really bonded with the entertainment staff especially Caesar and Marco. I would recommend this resort with just a couple suggestions for them. Include free Wi-Fi and I know they are working on the food.
Allegro Cozumel was a truly great experience. We went with two of our adult children and found that this was not only a great value through Cheap Caribbean, but was an outstanding resort in a beautiful destination. The rooms were up to date, very clean, and the service was excellent. The food was wonderful, and there were many offerings of all types so nobody in our party was disappointed. The entire resort was very clean and well-maintained, the people were friendly and helpful. This is a great family destination for those with either small children or grown children. The pools are beautifully kept and there are lots of waterslide activities for younger kids. The beach was very nice, white sand, plenty of beach, not a lot of coral so no water shoes were needed. There was beach volleyball, easy access to refreshments on the beach, and the rooms are very close to the beach, to each other, and to all of the restaurants. One thing I would HIGHLY recommend is that you arrange transportation from the airport in advance through Cheapcaribbean via Amstar. They were waiting for us at the airport and they provided a personal concierge at the hotel. Be careful, because hotel staff will not easily direct you to Amstar reps, even if you ask. They prefer to arrange excursions, etc. with you directly, which in this case included a tour and time-share pitch to a neighboring sister-resort. Arturo was our Amstar rep and we had difficulty finding him, but he was very helpful once we did. He arranged our transportation back to the airport and provided a lot of information about activities with no strings attached! I did note that the dive shop which provided for the included water activities did not seem to be directly affiliated with the resort so access to snorkel equipment, etc. was limited. We would have liked to have more opportunities to rent out snorkel equipment or kayaks, but overall it was very enjoyable.
The resort description is misleading. On the resort website they described the resort as having five different pools. Once you arrived on the property you see that two of the five pools are for Members Only. Also on the website it describes five restaurants that you can choose from. What it neglects to tell you is that two of the restaurants are buffet style / snackbar Style while the other three you can only choose to make reservations two nights of the seven that you are there. The buffet option would be nice but the food is not very good and it is very hot In the dinning area. In the lobby there are people there to help you make plans for any excursions but it seemed as though every thing that we booked had hidden cost that came later. Also we were told we had to make arrangements for airport transfer on the day of arrival but that was a meeting to try and get us to buy excursions. Also people in the lobby will tell you different things than people that you're set up with to meet for your airport transfer so you're not sure which one to trust. We also had a situation in which we set up a wake-up call that we never received that could have been potentially ruined one of our excursions. On a positive side, the property is very nice and clean and the rooms are very comfortable and cool. The maid services were awesome. The bartenders do a great job. The entertainment during the day was lacking but the evening shows were great.
For the price we paid, the resort was great. The pools and exterior of the resort was gorgeous. The beach was beautiful as well. The service was excellent and everyone who worked there was exceptionally well-mannered and kind. The food selection felt more of a college dining hall - the spreads were good but the food was just mediocre. There were three restaurant options, however we were limited to one and chose to go with the asian cuisine. It was great, yet ironically it was the only time all week that I became sick afterwards. There was also a power outage during dinner one night and lasted for about 5 hours, which left most people in a panic.

Does this facility have dinning whereby you can see the water?
6 years, 80 months ago
The Beach Bar is located by the beach.
Not really to dine, but a place to eat and see the water.
Only from the snack/lunch restaurant. There is an awesome place about 5 minutes from the resort called Alberto's, that is beach front, fresh fish caught that day, awesome food, great sunset and very reasonably priced food. Highly recommend this place.
At lunch the resturant is by the warer and is visable.
Yes, the resort id situatued perfectly.
Wisconsin answering! yes the Mexican speciality has views of the ocean. Allegro has the very BEST beach of the resorts in the area.
No, the facility that serves lunch and the Mexican dinner is adjacent to the pool and then the beach is beyond the pool. I don't think you can see the beach, but it's close.
Not on the water, no. You can see the beach and pool from the lunch dining area.
Well you may take your food out to the beach if you want too. Also if you check at the front desk daily they have different things going on Like dinners on the beach that you can purchase. We did the lobster dinner it was wonderful.
No. Only 2 restaurants. Buffets. You can eat at the oriental fine dining one time, but must sign up as soon as you arrive at the Resort to get a reservation. No beach restaurants. One pool snack buffet open for a few hours in the afternoon.
Yes, the lunch buffet (which is also the Mexican restaurant in the evening) has a view of the beach. The breakfast and dinner buffet does not have a view of the beach.
Is the Allegro a sister resort to the Occidental?11 answers
It seems like I read somewhere that the Allegro and the Occidental were sister resorts. If that is so, are they adjacent to one another, and are the restaurants and bars at the Occidental part of the all-inclusive plan at the Allegro? Thanks!!!
6 years, 73 months ago
The Allegro Cozumel is owned by the Occidental hotel group. Although the two properties are neighbors, they do not share exchange privleges. You would only have access to the amenities at the Allegro Cozumel.
If we were able to we didn't and it wasn't publicized that you could. However they are fairly close to each other.
Occidental owns two resorts next to eah other. The Allegro is the lower cost resort and the Grand is the nicer more expensive resort.
They are both Occidental properties - Grand and Allegro - and are next to each other but not inter-changeable as far as meals and bars. Allegro is the family place moderately priced. Grand is beautiful but doesn't seem user friendly. Haven't stayed there so can't boast amenities.
They are both owned by Occidental, but the Grand is nicer. Since we prefer diving with Palancar Divers (which are at the Grand), we actually left the Allegro and stayed at the Grand. Everything about it is nicer.
They are twp hotels next to one another, allegro and the nicer version of it, and the amenities, pool, bar, etc. are designated solely for the hotel you stay at
We stayed at Allegro Cozumel and did walk over to the grand version, and snuck some drinks and laid by the pool - they were not checking wristbands
They are next to one another but I would not say adjacent. No the bars and restaurants at the other resort are not a part of the all-inclusive at Allegro but you will be offered an opportunity to go to breakfast there once…Free.
They are owned by occidental. You cannot go to the occidental for anything. You will get harassed to go there for a high pressure time share presentation though. We did for a cheap jeep rental. 2 hours later, when we said no, they finally got angry with us and we could go. Not worth it!
The Occidental Allegro and Occidental Grand are sister resorts; we stayed at the Allegro but we were not allowed to visit the Grand or use their pools or visit their restaurants.
They are sister resorts but you can only use the one that you choose to stay in when making the reservation. Read review before staying in the Allegro.
Yes, but do not compare both, this is bad
Is the Allegro Playacar a sister resort of Allegro Cozumel? If so, if I stay at one, can I use the facilities of the other?4 answers
2 years, 34 months ago
The Allegro Playacar is not in Cozumel. It is on the main land in Mexico.
Yes it is a sister resort but no the benefits do not transfer.
I was told yes but be ready they are trying to sell you a time share..
I do not know personally, but we did over hear another couple trying to dine at the other property. They were told they had to purchase a day pass to the other property, so I would say the answer is no.
Is the beach rocky or nice for swimming?5 answers
2 years, 29 months ago
Allegro Cozumel is located on beautiful San Francisco Beach which extends for 150 yeards in front of the hotel. This beach is not very rocky, it's a great place for swimming!
Really perfect for swimming! It is sand on the beach and in the water.
Is the beach like the Florida Panhandle with super soft white sand - no. It is decent sand with some shells and coral mixed in that is more than usable to swim.
It has a nice sandy beach and large roped in swimming area. The water is a clear beautiful blue.
The beaches are wonderful for swimming. The darkness you see in the pictures is sea grass

Is Allegro and Occidental Grand owned by the same company? I heard they sold and are doing renovations. Are reno done? and which is nicer/newer? What nightly activities are there if any?
1 year, 18 months ago
They had renovations a year ago, for a list of nightly activities, please check with the resort as they change weekly. If you have any further questions, you may contact the resort directly or call and speak to one of our Beachologists at 1-800-915-2322.
From my understanding, it used to be owned by Occidental and is now owned by the "Barcelo" group. The renovations are indeed complete. Our standard room was great. They have nightly "shows" at their outdoor (covered) theater. We saw two shows, 1) a "light" show and 2) a Copacabana-style Caribbean dance performance. There's also a nicely designed "Disco", music/dance lounge.
I think they are the same company. They are a 10 minute beach walk apart. All the renovations seem to be complete. I did not see any construction activity. The grounds are beautiful!
we were told that occidental bought allegro and the renovations are finished. nightly activities were minimal and not so good. very quiet there after about 6, when pools closed, and the shows dont start till 9. but really not worth going to. so plan on getting up early, to enjoy the sun, and get to bed early!!
Allegro looks pretty nice it’s the older version of the occidental which is right next to it if you want a higher level of luxury or less kids then occidental is the place
