"New resort, everything was clean and shined. The buffet had a wide variety with menu changes day to day and everything we tried was good. Some favorites: donuts fried on site & served warm - chocolate ..." – IowaBeachBoy

If you like wine and hot food then do not go here.

The wine was horrible and the food at the buffet was always cold. I read the same review before I went but it was from a year ago so I thought they may have changed things but they didn't. Everyone at the pool reserves their chairs early so if you don't you put your towels down early, you won't be getting a chair. The staff was very nice and the place is spotless! It was still a great vacation.

Very Clean!

My wife and I were joined by my brother and his wife, and a hometown friend and his wife on our trip. We enjoyed a very good stay for a price that could not be beat. Check-in was smooth and easy. They were able to accommodate our request, at check-in, to put me and my brother in rooms near each other. We ended up next door. By the way, if you’re like us and prefer a quiet room away from the “action”, our rooms were perfect (0196 and 0195). We jokingly called them “Jungle View” rooms, as they were on the back corner of the resort. Riu Dunamar was the cleanest of the many in which we have stayed - even better than the Iberostar in Montego Bay (which is very nice). The service staff was always attentive and profession, as can be expected at any resort in Mexico; but this was far better than we’ve experienced elsewhere. At the risk of giving everyone the impression that we spent every minute of every day at the Mezcal swim up bar (one of two at the resort) and the beach... we spent every minute of every day, but one, at the pool and beach. The resort has five swimming pools! Awesome... the only complaint I have is that both pools with swim up bars (the other being the Tequila Bar), were crowed with children. We saw children dumping frozen drinks into the pool (“accidentally”, I’m sure). On one occasion, we saw a toddler (my wife said she was probably 18 to 20 months old), who was being “watched” by her father, dump her drink in the pool and then proceed to eat the floating fruit. I would hope that in the future, the resort management would designate one as Adult Only, preferably the Tequila Bar, as it is further away from the main pool. (We have seen this concept work at the Dreams Palm Beach in Punta Cana when we stayed there two years ago. It remained “family friendly”, but provided the adults an oasis of adult behavior and conversation.) The one day we did not spend all of time by the pool was the day my brother and I took our wives to Isla Mujeres via the Ultramar Ferry from the Puerto Juarez terminal. Upon disembarking the ferry, we walked directly across the street to a corner bar for “refreshments”, and then went up the same side street to rent a four-person golf cart. It was a great day.

Very Clean!

Loved it!

We had a great experience at Roy Dunamar. I really appreciate how hard the staff works to keep the place sparkling clean. The entertainment team also works very hard to provide activities during the day and shows at night. Our room was on the ground floor and was very nice and clean. The mini fridge was restocked everyday and we had plenty of water. We did the chichen itza express excursion. It leaves at 0545 and gets back at 1500. It is a long drive about 3hrs from the hotel but it is one of the 7 wonders of the world so I am glad we did it! We brought our stuff to snorkel on the beach outside the hotel however the waves are too much to be able to snorkel but still had a good time swimming. The pools were great I loved just laying out in the pool. The only downside is the food. It is not very good and my husband and I travel all the time and are not the least bit pickey. The Asian restaurant was not good at all but we were able to find decent things at the other restaurants. The spa is pricey but if you walk down the beach a little either way there are offsite and cheaper places to get massages right on the beach. Overall we had a wonderful stay and would come back again.
