In and around this striking, Mayan-esque pyramid surrounded by luscious palms is where you'll find a bevy of beach aahh-some: unlimited cocktails, food, sea creatures, a spa and water sports. But that's just the tip of the beachberg. Everything you could ever imagine is here, maybe even some things you never knew you liked. The memories you make here will resonate long after you've left this escape-haven.

The bed was not comfortable at all, they both sunk in the middle.
Not enough food options. Felt like it was the same every day.
Entertainment was very enjoyable.
I recently stayed for 2 nights and 3 days at Roy Caribe. The hotel was well-kept and easy to navigate and the pools were really clean. The view from my balcony room was breathtaking at any hour of the day — the blue pools and then the ocean behind them create a “screensaver worthy” picture.
The buffet had a really good selection for every meal, I liked how the items changed and you weren’t presented with the same thing every day. I also liked that Riu resorts let you access amenities for both resorts located next to each other.
It’s not a deal-breaker, but the beach isn’t very walkable. You can walk in front of the resort and the neighboring Riu Palace, but can’t really wander. But that’s ok, they have an adequate number of beach chairs & shades AND the street is walkable if you’d like to browse the little beach shops less than a half mile away.
The only real complaint was the distance from major attractions, like the Mayan ruins (2 hours) or the cenotè cave snorkeling (1 hour), consider staying in Tulum to say travel time maybe.
The beach was clean and offered plenty of seating. The pool was nice but you could hear the music at both pools so there was really no place to fully relax. The last Riu I went to was in the DR and was a complex of different hotels where we could use the restaurants and facilities at all the connecting hotels except the Princess. This Riu is essentially a standalone which means there are only a few restaurants: buffet Asian, another buffet, a Mexican restaurant (our favorite) where you could order a main plate in addition to the buffet and a steakhouse we never visited. The food was mediocre but not bad. The service was good. Overall we were happy with our trip.

Riu Caribe is a beachfront resort. The pyramid-inspired Riu Caribe sits on north Cancun Island between a 300 yard, white-sand beach and Nichupte Lagoon.
MariaCC
The beach is nice. Water and sand are beautiful. Beach chairs and shade are plentiful. Water was a little rougher and cooler than I hoped (late January).

Absolutely incredible. I just returned from Cancun and the beach is 2 steps from the hotel and absolutely gorgeous. I have never seen water that is so blue / green and so warm!

The resort does offer nightly live music, shows, evening programs and also has the Pacha Nightclub on property.

There was a lot to do during the evening hours. Sometimes there would be vendors outside. There was typically always a band on the main stage and something going on at the Calypso bar.

How long does it take to get diving certified at the hotel?2 answers
6 years, 76 months ago
Tucson, Arizona
Scubacaribe's Cancun resort dive center is located right on the beach, just 50 meters from the water's edge inside Riu resorts. Any specific questions you may have pertaining to their offered services, we do suggest contacting them directly. You can certainly visit their website at https://www.scubacaribe.com/riu_caribe_en.htm. If you would like to contact them directly, the email address we found directly on their website for their Headquarters located in the Dominican Republic is info@scubacaribe.com.
MariaCC
The Aquatic staff is there daily and certification depends on how fast the student can accomplish the requirements. As a diver, safety is important. Do not go for the fast track. Learn! Your life and the life of your dive partner depend on your training.
I have over 50 dives in my log from Florida, Can cun, Aruba, Belize and others. The experience is amazing.

Does this include the transfer from the airport to the resort?5 answers
6 years, 75 months ago
New Jersey
The roundtrip airport transfer service is not included in the pricing of the resort, however, you are able to add this service for an additional charge during the booking process.
MariaCC
If you get the package on CheapCarribean with the airport transportation it does, but the actual resort doesn't include transportation. And when you arrive at the airport, they will have options there as well.
Mego3304
I believe the transfer from the airport to the resort is a $20 extra fee through Olympus Tours on Cheap Caribbean. It is definitely worth it and reliable. There was no wait when I arrived in Mexico, there was an Olympus representative waiting to take my boyfriend and I to Riu Caribe! We arrived within a half hour!

yes in walking distance plus you can take a short bus ride and shop close by

Being right in the hotel zone, you are very close to shopping outside of the resort--you are able to walk or take a cab to the different stores.
LaurenCC
Shopping in the local flea market (which is a ton of fun and you can haggle some great prices) is a five minute bus ride away. The Mexican bus system is extremely easy and convenient to use! It also only costs 85 pesos or $1 USD.
Gabriella
A lot.....city bis is less than a dollar and even a Wal Mart is close by. OMG, why would you go though? There are many local shops within 4-5 KM.

Yes, there is wi-fi at the Riu Caribe. Upon check-in you'll receive a slip of paper with the internet information. There are a couple restrictions:
1) Available only in the lobby
2) Log in once a day
3) limited time: 90 minutes
4) Must be used continuously
Brkhousekitty
only in the lobby, and they give you 90 minutes free.
Ceci2013
Free 90 mins in the lobby only
JBrown
WiFi is available and some continuous access is charged. WiFi is available at 256 kbps for free controlled by a website with 90 continuous minutes per day for free. That would be per device. The MAC address is recorded by the website and the clock starts when you log in. 90 minutes later, your session expires. We could receive Skype but could not send video. Audio worked well while we received video/audio.
GFord
There is wifi at the resort. But you can only use it in the lobby of the hotel. If you want it free you have 90 min. a day and must be used at one time per device. Or they have packages that you can pay for.
KennyD
There is free WI Fi but only in the lobby. I took the opportunity to completely disconnect from the outside world and enjoy my family time.
Beachfriend
There is only free Wifi in the lobby. They give you the code when you check in. For the room you have to pay extra. One week of wifi was about 33 dollars.

Does the resort accept U.S. dollars?

Yes, The resort does accept U.S. dollars.
LisaCC
Yes
But cannot exchange
Kikikiki
Everything is included so you won't need money. But do not change ur money at the airport there is a bank in the downtown area about 10 minutes away that will give you 12.30 pesos for every $1. We took the bus to downtown which was 9.70 pesos (less than $1) but we always gave the driver an American $1 and he gave us change in pesos. Bartenders at the hotel will accept American $1's and will even change them for you but at a lower rate 10 pesos per dollar
Stephf0621
There is a new Mexican law prohibiting the use of USD to pay for services at any Mexican hotel. However the USD is used for charges with your credit card avoiding international exchange fees,
Many of the local businesses will accept dollars.
GFord
Hi Kate,
Just returned from the Riu Caribe and I can say that when shopping in the market (store with souvenirs and essentials), booking at the spa, and book any trips through the resort they were willing to accept US dollars, more so than pesos even ( i brought a mix of both with me). This includes tips the workers were more than happy to accept US $ in tips. However I know that the resort does not do currency exchance (US dollars exchanged to Pesos and vice versa).
I think bringing a mix of both currencies is your best bet.
JoJoBeans
Kate,
during our stay we ran out of sunscreen!!! I know.....not too bright on our part. The resort gift shop had some and did accept US dollars. There was also a convenience store actually outside the resort, however still connected to it. This place had EVERYTHING and was reasonable. They also had registers that rang up in pesos, as well as dollars. They gladly accepted both.

For details about the Spa and the massages available please contact the resort directly. Their email address is: hotel.caribe@riu.com. Thank you!
LizCC
We received a spa credit with our stay, so we took advantage of the credit and booked massages. My husband and I both had 80 minute massages and they were wonderful. The only cons for me were they did not provide us robes in the locker room. I had to actually ask for one. The price was approx. $107 for each after applying the credit.

Does the price per person include or exclude children?2 answers
We have 4 children going with us - one is 16, one is 8, one is 7, and one is 3. When it states price "per person" does that mean that each of the children is charged the same price as an adult?
4 years, 59 months ago
nannygoat
Pricing for children is different from pricing for adults. However, when our site gives you the average pricing it takes the total of the trip and divides by the amount of people traveling. So the average pricing is for everyone traveling. For more information please call us at 1-800-915-2322.
CaitlinCC
Yes, based on the ages of the children they are usually a bit cheaper. It will give you a price, if you look further into the breakdown of charges you can see that the price for children is less.

Drinking age is 18. I went on spring break. Any resort is great. All inclusive are good deals. Riu Caribe was an older crowd when I went. Just be respectful and tip drivers, bartenders. One dollar is about 20 pesos there. Don't let everyone get too obliterated when you go out in town, theft is common, and you don't want to end up lost in Mexico.

Tipping ok?5 answers
When traveling to the Caribbean on an all inclusive, I've always brought small bills for tipping. I've never been to Mexico. Is tipping o.k. at this resort, even though I purchased an all inclusive? (I just don't want to insult or offend if I do....) Thanks!
1 year, 24 months ago

While this resort is all-inclusive, tipping is unnecessary but is always much appreciated by the recipients.
JeannieCC
I didn't tip during most of my stay, but waited for the last day to give a nice tip to the bartenders as a group. Most people don't tip for each of their drinks, but tips are always appreciated by the staff if you do. I also left tips after breakfast or dinner if the service was good
Travis293
Tipping is good in Mexico, you will not offend anyone.

Not as much tipping going on as I assumed, because everyone at the bars/restaurants have to share tips. But definitely tip your housekeeper everyday, and anyone you encounter off campus of the resort.

Bare minimum. Most equipment has something broken. Two treadmills, some free weights, rowing machine (but tracker is broken), some weight machines. Small space.
Lau2
Tiny. One treadmill and a bunch of mismatched weights.

Most resort's pools close between 5-7pm. If you have any further questions or need help booking, please call and speak to one of our Beachologists at 1-800-915-2322.

The pools at Riu Caribe closes at 7pm and I wish it would've stayed open at night because my group and I would prefer to go swimming during the night time.
Bodak
Not sure if they close at certain times but they did have loud activities when the sun went down. I'm pretty sure they were open later then normal at the swim up bar.
KathyDC
We went in March, pools close at 7pm to be chemically treated.
