Sun club was worth every penny

We arrived late on a Saturday and checked in to our booked room. I asked to upgrade to the sun club as we did last year in the Dominican Sunscape, and they offered to do so the next day when a room became available. Worth. Every. Penny. Not only was the room better, the club bar and restaurant were superb. It was also wonderful to have room service and turn down service at night. I rarely want to return to a locale or resort as I like to try new things, but I will definitely be back to the sunscape splash/cove. The first room was a little dated and worn, we were also on the fifth floor and the elevators were slow. The upgraded room was beautiful, the bathroom updated, and the walkout to the beach, perfection. I can’t wait to go back! The food was fantastic in all the restaurants even the buffet. I actually wish we would have eaten there more as we enjoyed the alacarte restaurants so much we didn’t try the buffet till the end. The free snorkeling off the beach was some of the best ive ever done, and I’ve snorkeled a lot. No need to pay for a trip to do that. The weather In January was perfect, and the flights in and out seamless. My daughters agreed, best vacation. E v e r.

Has really gone down. New management

Let me start by saying that we have stayed at this resort more than five times. Our total number of visits to JA would be nearly twelve. This resort is under new management. Everything has been downsized, including the service. We upgraded our room to the usual suite. The ocean front suite which we paid for was a bay view with many building tops to look at instead of beach and ocean. The suite usually comes with bathrobes, slippers, beverages in our refrigerator and a butler. We had to ask several times and finally received our amenities. Their was a Jamaican wedding while we were there.....no problem mon...except the hot tub and pool were closed for several hours because they didn’t want wet concrete. The night of the wedding, the music played so loud outside, I could feel their music thumping all the way in my room, way past 1030. I was not able to enjoy my balcony because of the intense noise. The portions in the ala cart dining restaurants were scaled back, probably budget constraints. I forgot to mention that each year we have returned, we were greeted by the same familiar happy faces. Not this time. Huge turnover in staff. The buffet restaurant was affected the most. Staff didn’t want to be there. I had to get up and ask for coffee several mornings. My dirty dishes were not picked up, instead stacked at my table. Very sad how this once beautiful resort has gone done. To conclude, I’m not a picky person.

Third trip to Jamaica first with kids

This was our first time taking our kids on an international trip. We had stayed at luxury resorts in the past and therefore had been spoiled. This resort wasn’t bad it just wasn’t as nice as others. I will say that our ocean view was a true ocean view and we loved it! The beach was amazing and the kids spent the entire time there- The didn’t give a hoot about the water slides. Each of the restaurants had a kid friendly option which was nice. The interior of the room was comparable to a best western.

Total “medium” experience

Things we loved- extra large beach towels, beach volleyball was incredibly fun, we had a blast at the river falls and blue hole, also the gym and spa were nice and our massages were super relaxing and nice.. Also it was pretty easy to have real “Jamaican fun” if you know what I mean thanks to the taxi drivers! Things that were just okay- the food...mediocre at best. nothing was amazing or delicious. The food is a million times better at cove so we snuck over there once or twice to feel like we could actually get full on something good.. the alcohol situation was one of the most disappointing pieces. The drinks were crazy sweet, not stirred and the bartenders acted like they hated their lives. A few times I’d watch them make a drink (not the recipe at all) and when I gently and politely asked for the missing ingredients, was rebuffed with loud sighs and eye rolls. The beaches and pools were nice. Prepare to be out there at dawn to reserve chairs, but otherwise it was really relaxing and pretty! Also watch out for jellyfish. They were everywhere and kids definitely got stung. Things that sucked- everything closes at 5! So there was very little to do here in the evenings. Except drink the crazy sweet drinks and go to the “club” which had too much bass and not enough people in it. The staff were rude af most of the time. If you’re at splash prepare to not be checked on during meals...so you’ll be stuck with an empty coffee or water cup forever. Also they are so intense about tips. Will stand there with their hands out, expectantly. I understands tips are a huge part of all inclusive but I’ve been to others that had better strategy for tips. Envelopes in the room..etc. it makes everything feel more authentic when someone is standing there with a outstretched hand. Rooms were super outdated at splash and they did not regulate temperature well. Overrall Jamaica is amazing in itself. THere are tons of fun excursions and you can definitely stay entertained and relax. If you are looking for amazing food, comfortable beds, and enthusiastic and genuine staff....go elsewhere.
