Solid Trip

My significant other and I just came back from a 5 day, four night stay at the RIU Palace Tropical Bay. The weather was great. I expected rain, as it was rainy season but it did not rain once while we were there except from a tiny sprinkle while on our way to the resort. The ride to the resort was full of beautiful lush scenery, but it was LONG, so brace yourself. We were greeted with some delicious rum punch upon arrival (as expected). The front desk service was great. We were checked in in less than ten minutes and our room was available although we arrived before the 3:00pm check in time. We requested a higher floor with a view of the sea and were accommodated right away. Our room was spotless and beautiful. We received a King sized bed and it was very comfortable for us. The bar and fridge were fully stocked. Our room was cleaned and the bar was restocked several times while we were there. We dined at the Steakhouse our first night. The food was alright-no major complaints. Unfortunately they did not serve lobster while I was there as it was breeding season, so keep that in mind. While we were there we also tried the fusion restaurant (Krystal). The service there was EXCELLENT. Our waitress Antonique went above and beyond and was extremely knowledgeable about the dishes that were served. The buffet (Negril) was probably our favorite because of the endless variety of foods offered. I enjoyed the customizable omelets at breakfast, and the local foods which were offered. There were many bars located around the resort and they all served the same signature drinks. You can also ask for any drink you'd like. Our favorite was the one right behind the swim up bar. Kenny G was hands down our favorite bartender. He was very personable and friendly throughout our whole trip. He really made our experience more memorable from beginning to end. Demar, who we got to know toward the end of our trip, was also great. Unfortunately I was not a fan of Andrew at the swim up bar. His customer service skills were definitely not up to par. He was unnecessarily rude...maybe it was an off day? Nightly entertainment was just okay. Pool activities were pretty fun. Be sure to check out the complimentary water sports. We tried the paddle boats and my boyfriend loved the kayaking. The ladies at the spa were absolutely amazing. We did a couples massage with Michelle and Alecia and they really did a fantastic job. Overall, we had a good time and would recommend the resort for people in their late twenties and up. The resort is not the liveliest, but we didn't mind this because we we wanted to relax.

Tropical Bay

My wife and I have been to several all-inclusive (including multiple RIUs) and this was the most enjoyable of them all. The Jerk Chicken on the beach was incredible, the service was excellent, even the buffet food was above our expectations. Great resort - highly recommended.

Best beach, not so great food

If you're looking for a great beach, this is the place! The food was iffy and the entertainment kind of lacks, but overall we enjoyed our stay!

Great

This resort is absolutely fabulous! The service on the grounds and in the restaurants was terrific. I am handicapped with limited walking ability. This resort is the best I have ever stayed for accessibility. The new pool is the best! The walk in ramp was perfect making it easy to get in and out of the pool. The grounds are very easy to get around in a wheel chair. I had a normal room and it was great. Only improvement would be that the shower would not have the small ridge into it. Great grab bars. The only complaint I have is that it took several hours to get a shower chair delivered. I can't wait to go back. It definitely is a piece of heaven!

What's to Love

No reservations needed at any of the restaurants.

The stunning beach with ivory, soft sands hugged by the bluest of tranquil, dreamy water.

Melting at the luscious spa, where the massages and facials transport you to Nirvana.

The outrageously delish, lip-smackin' Jamaican BBQ you can nosh on while chillaxing by the ocean.

The Victorian-style buildings bathed in happy, soft pink, which cause instant happiness.

The liquor dispenser in your room. Your hour of happy can start any time of day.

24-hour room service - if you've got a hankering for grub at 3:15 a.m., you can get it. For realz.

The bonfire and DJ on the beach - you'll feel like you're in a movie.

What We'd Change

The airport is a little over an hour from the resort, but once you get there you'll never want to leave.

Why You Should Go

You can hang out at the sister resort, which includes free access & drinks at the disco, Pacha. Woot!

There are oceans of activities for the kiddos, and even a children's playground where you can have some sandy fun.

Must-dos: Rhodes Hall Plantation for horseback riding & Roaring River for swimming in a fresh water sinkhole.

Don't miss bodyboarding, sail boats, snorkeling and/or for a fee scuba and jet skiing. Dive in.

On land, there's water polo and volleyball in the pool for your splish-splashing pleasure.

On the way home, plant yourself in Club MoBay at the airport for grub and A/C. It's so worth it.
