Jamaica Vacation January 2019

This was our first trip to Jamaica and we fell in love with this island, it’s people and this resort in particular. Th entire complex was renovated and completed in October 2018 so all is fresh and new. The beach front as the best we’ve encountered with palm trees right on the beach allowing one to get reprieve from the sun if one desires . There’s 3 pools, one with a swim up bar, one for water aerobics/games and another lounge pool a little quieter than the ones just mentioned. There’s 4 restaurants plus the buffet to choose from. We tried 3 of the 4 restaurants and found the buffet to be our preference overall. This resort is a little more remote than some without tons of off resort activities or site seeing destinations. We did hire a private driver at the resort to drive us around a couple of hours showing us where the local people lived and some farms consisting of sugar cane and coffee beans...home of Blue Mountain Coffee. Be sure to take the catamaran at the resort out for a half day of fun (extra charge but reasonable) .snorkeling, stops at the cave where a scene from Pirates of the Caribbean was filmed, an hours stay at Ricks Cafe to enjoy cliff diving from local pros or do some of your own cliff diving if you dare! Finally a one hour stop at Margaritaville then back to the resort well in time for dinner. You may want to choose a different time so you can experience the sunset from Ricks Cafe....amazing views...unlike anything we’ve ever experienced. We missed the sunset but many people were talking about them. We fell in love with Jamaica and plan to return to this resort next time. Caution: there is a nude beach 3 or 4 resorts up from this resort and we did encounter a catarmaran at Ricks Cafe with mostly nude passengers. Something to think about if traveling with children.

A Must Visit

We stayed at Riu Palace Tropical Bay in Negril. The buildings and staff were wonderful. Everyone was more than willing to help and answer any questions. The amazing staff was always busy and somehow blended in with everyone. The number of places to get food or drinks was great and we enjoyed the places that we went to. Did I mention that the staff is AMAZING!! The beach and water are gorgeous and currently my screensaver at work. We were lucky enough to see some wildlife in the bay. I highly recommend kayaking and the paddleboard. You can spend the day on the beach or joining in any of the many events that they have going on. WONDERFUL time and are looking forward to a return trip. I also recommend doing and excursion or two get out and see some more of the beautiful island. We loved the ultimate thrill seekers excursion and the catamaran sail and snorkel excursion. Wonderful Time, Great Staff, Beautiful Location.

The Riu Palace Tropical Bay resort was excellent. It was the first time here and we will definitely be back. Staff was super friendly. Only down fall was our room service. We asked to have our room cleaned and fresh towels everyday, which they did take our towels but never repalced them with new ones. We had to ask for them. Not a big deal. However they did always restock our refrigerator every day. Food was great. Never went away hungry. Pools were nice and keep them clean. Beach was gorgeous and maintained. Always felt safe at resort.

What's to Love

No reservations needed at any of the restaurants.

The stunning beach with ivory, soft sands hugged by the bluest of tranquil, dreamy water.

Melting at the luscious spa, where the massages and facials transport you to Nirvana.

The outrageously delish, lip-smackin' Jamaican BBQ you can nosh on while chillaxing by the ocean.

The Victorian-style buildings bathed in happy, soft pink, which cause instant happiness.

The liquor dispenser in your room. Your hour of happy can start any time of day.

24-hour room service - if you've got a hankering for grub at 3:15 a.m., you can get it. For realz.

The bonfire and DJ on the beach - you'll feel like you're in a movie.

What We'd Change

The airport is a little over an hour from the resort, but once you get there you'll never want to leave.

Why You Should Go

You can hang out at the sister resort, which includes free access & drinks at the disco, Pacha. Woot!

There are oceans of activities for the kiddos, and even a children's playground where you can have some sandy fun.

Must-dos: Rhodes Hall Plantation for horseback riding & Roaring River for swimming in a fresh water sinkhole.

Don't miss bodyboarding, sail boats, snorkeling and/or for a fee scuba and jet skiing. Dive in.

On land, there's water polo and volleyball in the pool for your splish-splashing pleasure.

On the way home, plant yourself in Club MoBay at the airport for grub and A/C. It's so worth it.
