Service

Overall i will not book another trip with cheapcaribbean again.... My flight was delayed from Boston going to Jamaica and back. I paid additional $389 to change my flight from Spirit to Delta. I had to wait 30min for my transportation to the hotel after i paid for the service. Hotel service was terrible. Customer service sucks. Mr. Higgins who checked me in was not friendly or welcoming. I did not feel the warm welcome. I did not get an welcome drink until i asked for it. Restaurant and Buffet service was a hint or miss. I will never recommend this Hotel or Cheapcaribbean again....

Will not return to this resort

This was our second time going to an all inclusive in Jamaica, and admittedly our expectations were a little high after our last experience, but we would not go back to this resort. It started with when we first arrived and we were not greeted with a rum punch and escorted to our room with our luggage like at the last resort we stayed at (yes we were spoiled) instead we were sent to find our room on our own (getting lost a few times on the way because the place is so spread out) then waiting another hour for our luggage to be brought up (i think the bellhop got lost too). Aesthetically the resort is gorgeous, beautiful rooms and sprawling landscapes providing you with a picturesque hike to everything including the dining rooms, beaches, pools shops or bars depending on where your room is located. Rest assured you will definitely get your daily steps in and then some whether you want to or not. And if stairs are your thing be confident you will be maneuvering up and down several flights of beautiful marble staircases throughout the grounds several times a day (use care if it's raining or you wear bifocals because they are irregular size steps). They do have a couple of well hidden elevators at your disposal, but be forewarned they seem to break down daily. But be confident that there are traditional staircases (easier to manage than the fancy ones outside) right by the elevators in the event they are out of order. The resort boasts a bar in every room if you want to relax on your balcony instead of going down to the lobby bar or pool bars. The room bar consists of 2 cans of beer, 1 coke, 1 Sprite, and 1 coke zero and a bottle of water to satisfy your adult beverage needs (you can of course request additional beers for a fee). The resort does assist you and your family/friends to totally disconnect from the rest of the world by limiting the number of electrical outlets in your room to 1 open and 2 others that you share with your coffee pot or hairdrier to charge your phones/computer/electronic games for the kids. In the event you do have to go online to access email or possibly do some work while you are there be prepared to spend at least 9 USD a day to access the free wifi anywhere but in the busy and loud lobby where can master the art of balancing your laptop on your lap because there are few tables available (and absolutely no plugs to power it). And don't think that if you pay for the free wifi to use in your room you will be set, 3 of the 5 days we were there the entire internet was down (in the lobby as well). On the off chance something in your room breaks (like your toilet wont stop running) or wasn't there (like a coffee pot from our friends room) feel free to call the front desk and tell them what is wrong. You will be greeted by friendly staff who will promise to have someone come look at it, then 3 days later when you cant stand it any more you get to test your own plumbing skills and fix the toilet yourself (I think I am in the wrong profession!). Should your card key not work, you get to take a couple of hikes (got to get those steps in) to and from the lobby to unsuccessfully get the key reprogrammed 2 times, then you can sit outside your room enjoying the extreme Jamaican heat for an hour while you wait for security to come open your door for you and fix your door lock. Food in the restaurants was less than spectacular but some were definitely better than others. Unfortunately due to staff making reservation errors we can not review all of the restaurants at the resort but the Asian grill (forgot the name) was the best we went to on the resort. The chef cooks it at your table, sings to you, entertains you and the food was amazing (eat there every day if you can). Thankfully the buffets were tolerable (and only one made us all sick) because when you make the required reservations at the other restaurants the scheduler doesn't always get them correct (make sure you make all of your dinner reservations when you arrive if you plan to eat before 930 at night, verify the dates and times assigned to you, and you get a receipt for each reservation before you leave the reservation booth, if you don't have that receipt you will not eat, and then you get to take your chances at one of the buffets). If you do have to go to a buffet, go to the one away from the main building near the smoking area, the food is decent, fresh, and you have more options to choose from. The paid for water sports (i did parasailing) are decent but overpriced. I paid 80USD for parasailing, and though it was fun, and the staff knew what they were doing, I was only parasailing for 15min, then they brought us back in. the experience was great, but way to short for the price. So I guess if you are looking for an aesthetically pleasing resort, that looks great in pictures, do not require any creature comforts, enjoy walking long distances for mediocre food, and like taking the stairs, this resort is definitely for you. Ill stick to the resort we went to through Cheap Caribbean last time...

What's to Love

It's an all-inclusive beach bonanza for every member of your fam-bam.

The white, cabana-ish tents that hug the pool and provide shade while you chillax.

Being greeted by colorful, fresh bougainvillea on your massage table in the spa.

The two coolio, curvy pools that are a coconut's throw from the beach.

What We'd Change

The beach is a little pebbly, so make sure you bring your water shoes. The upside is that it makes for truly excellent snorkeling right off shore.

Why You Should Go

It's 75 minutes from Mobay airport. Don't fret. You'll be greeted with a welcome cocktail soon.

The beach is a bit pebbly, so bring your water shoes.

Before your flight home, hit Club Mobay at the airport for A/C, drinks and lots of spoiling.

Book your airport transfers with us before you arrive. You'll avoid a lot of headaches.

Hotel Description

Grand Bahia Principe Jamaica: All-Inclusive & All-Fam-tastic

When you enter the open-air lobby of this Victorian-style resort, you'll immediately feel the Jamaican breezes wash over you. Next, you'll encounter a sea of white, wicker chairs on the expansive porch (they're oh-so British), where you can sip a cocktail and soak in all the awesome of the lush grounds. Wander through the complex and you'll be wowed by the glistening pools and the cerulean waves of Runaway Bay. Grab a Red Stripe from the swim-up bar while your kids can descend into a splash frenzy at their own pool. Then you can all gather for some Jerk Chicken at the snack bar, where you can plot your next adventures: water sports, nightly shows, and more. When might we expect you?
