Great Resort

I love the resort, and the staff. They were friendly, the food was amazing, the rooms were clean and well kept. The scuba crew (Craig, kimberly, shaggy) and the water sports crew (Julian specifically) they were all amazing. Very helpful, fun, and great to be around. We even got scuba certified we loved it so much. I recommend the snorkeling, the scuba diving, and swimming with the dolphins. My only complaint come from when we were leaving. They told us someone would be to our room to get our luggage at 7:00am, and no one ever showed up. It was a bit annoying, but oh well. If that’s the worse thing to happen, then I’ll take it! I don’t recommend taking the cruise to ricks cafe. It was over crowded, hot, and over priced. We definitely plan on coming back to the resort and to Jamaica. Oh but if you’re gay, (which we are) i wouldn’t voice it. It’s a very homophobic country.

The largest caribbean beach ever

For the last four years we have been vacationing at Couples Tower Isle located in Ocho Rios Jamaica. We love the people there but heard all sorts of good news about Negril. We decided on Swept Away because we heard about the great diving opportunities there. The sea was calmer and the sea creatures were bigger and more numerous. The beach at Swept Away is amazing and is far as the eye can see. The water is practically like glass in the morning, with small waves later in the day. I dove five times and was able to see dolphins, a turtle and schools of small tropical fish. The deep dive of the Tugboat was cool. Not many wrecks in Ocho Rios. Vendors on the beach did strike up a conversation with you in order to see you something. There were security guards there to keep the vendors on the water's edge and not where you are lying on the beach. At Couples Tower Isle you never had to deal with vendors. The week we were at Swept Away, the mornings were absolutely perfect, but when the afternoon came it rained. It usually cost a few hours. The rooms were quite large, but everything is quite spread out because it is a larger and newer resort. I felt it was harder to strike up a conversation here as compared to Tower Isle. The beach was seven miles long with Margarita Ville a short walk away. A complimentary shuttle to Ricks Café is included. There you are entertained by cliff jumpers and a Spring Break atmosphere. The price is more expensive then the other Couples resorts, but you do have the largest beach and amazing sunsets when the weather cooperates.

Wonderful, .. except for ..

Let me begin by recommending Couples Swept Away as an excellent vacation option. My wife and I found ourselves enjoying all we did there, and I think we only left the resort once, in 7 days, as there was so much to do, so many great food options, and all included in the package cost, to love. Our adventures the included scuba diving, with some of the best and most attentive crews ever, parasailing (this was not part of the package, but easy to find a reputable vendor), water skiing, water aerobics, tennis lessons with a pro, we even tried out Yoga together. So, all wonderful, so what's my one reservation? Our room was clean and cool, and reasonably well serviced, but the primary restaurants were not air conditioned, so while they may not sound so bad if there were a nice breeze and a typical balmy 80+ degree day, it was 90 degrees and quite humid while we visited. More importantly, perhaps, while the fitness facilities are pictured and thoroughly impressive, they also are not cooled, with the exception of the locker rooms and the spa itself. So, try working out, or doing yoga, or taking any form of exercise class when the room you're in is not cooled at all in 90 degree heat. I heard employees justify this saying it was better for burning calories, or burning off toxins, but I'm not buying it. Calories are burned as your body warms itself, not when your body cannot get cool itself. This kept us from enjoying some of the property as well as we might have. However, in fairness, this is a "green" option, which I like. It felt good to think that the resort was not burning as much energy, to their savings, to be sure, but also good for us to leave our dependency on A/C controlled environments. You needed only get in a pool to cool off, and sometimes once you've been drenched in sweat for a while and you have a little salt and grime in your hair, it just becomes kind of "Ok". I recommend Couples Swept Away, and we'd happily return. We were celebrating our 10th anniversary, and the heat and frequent changes of clothes aside, it was well worth it.

Not what we were looking for

AMAZING resort, beautiful room, good food, clean beaches, but on our first day a staff member told us (very condescendingly) that we need to realize he will never be able to afford to go on vacation, setting a poor tone for the whole trip. While we understand this may be true, we saved for 2 years and are middle class. It made us feel unwelcome in the country and at the resort. We enjoyed sitting on the beach, and the security guards did what they could, but the countless harassment from people (4-5 every 30 minutes) trying to sell you stuff was annoying (probably not something the resort can control). The amenities were great. Snorkeling, water-skiing, paddle boarding, etc. however, the food (while very delicious) lacked a Caribbean flare. The room was the best part of the trip. It was an atrium room and honestly saved our trip. We were able to sit on the back porch and relax, and enjoy all the beautiful tropical landscape. This was the only thing that made us actually feel like we were in a different country. If you are looking for a beautiful resort with all the amenities included, beautiful beaches, and amazing rooms, this is the place for you. If you are looking for a little more local flare and isolation I would not recommend this place. While we may be biased based on our initial experience, we did not feel welcome, and I do not believe we will come back to Jamaica.

What's to Love

Some of the kindest, quickest service in Jamaica is at Couples Swept Away, where delicious dining and tons of water activities draw couples in for romantic getaways.

The fun selection of free activities provided by the resort such as tennis lessons with a pro, catamaran booze cruise, glass bottom boat rides, fitness classes, unlimited water skiing and wake boarding, snorkeling and so much more!

What We'd Change

At 90 minutes from the airport, couples are in for quite a trip. Don't worry about the taxi, though--complimentary shuttles carry lovebirds between resort and airport.

Why You Should Go

You've seen good beaches, but none of them hold a candle to photo-ready Seven Mile Beach. This amazing swimsuit optional beach is famous for a reason!
