Off the Fence

Was on the fence before booking this trip but after staying there for 5 days have a solid understanding of it. Food was nothing special but the all inclusive option gives you plenty of choices and there are enough decently healthy options to feel nourished. All inclusive drinks are obscure bottom basement brands. Room was basic but clean. Bed was comfortable but had to request pillows & blankets (standard is 1 each with 1 sham). Good: The pool & beach access is amazing! There are some great, warm, thoughtful people working here who are really trying to make your stay enjoyable. The evening entertainment is surprisingly delightful with a crew of talented, energetic youth. Bad: The front desk staff is not helpful by any means. Nearly had to schlep our own bags coming & going with a pregnant wife. Our door key kept failing & staff wouldn't believe us until the 7th copy was made, then the tech made my wife sit & wait until he lumbered over to fix for half an hour. You're also bring constantly pitched the VIP access every day, but that's standard at many all inclusive resorts; this one just had less tact. Wouldn't stay again, but got what I paid for.

Fair Vacation

Went this past week with some friends. We have been to Punta Cana on 4 other vacations and stayed at 4 other resorts and the VIK was what we had expected based on the travel agents description, but we wanted to try a smaller resort this time around. The room was OK, small but live able. We were told we were in the updated rooms (building 1), but they still could have used some work. The housekeeping service was great, the room was cleaned each day and I had no issues with them. I was surprised to find out that we had to pay for the in room safe $2 a day which was fair, but was not happy to find out that there was no mini bar in the room unless you paid $70 per day (or each time you wanted it filled) for a few snacks and some liquor, soda and water. The only thing you got in the refrigerator were 2 bottles of water each day. There was no coffee maker in the room, but there were some machines in the lobby where you could get coffee, cappucino, espresso. The lobby, common areas and restaurants could use some refreshing. The furniture was terribly uncomfortable and the Italian and seafood restaurants had no air conditioning and no windows to get a breeze so it was difficult to eat when it was so hot out. The service was OK in the restaurants but it took a long time to get something to drink. I can say the buffet area was laid out nicely and had plenty of space and selection of food and it was cool enough with the breeze from the ocean. The service staff was slow to get tables cleaned from previous guests and get us clean silverware. There is no drink service but everything you need is there. The bartenders at the beach bar and lobby bar barely made eye contact with you and looked like they were annoyed when we asked for drinks, even though we tipped them every time we went to them. The beach was beautiful and we spent a majority of our time there, but if you were not up and getting a chair by 7:30 am, you were out of luck. Most of the lounges were already taken up by then. The pool had more places to sit, but we found the pool not so clean and it could use some work. The water aerobics instructors were fun and kept us entertained at the pool, otherwise not much to do there. The shows were OK, but seating very limited and consisted of plastic chairs and uneven tables. If you wanted to sit and have a drink the only place to do that is a smoking section on the side of the theater. The staff at the desk weren't helpful at times and we found it a little frustrating, but check in was a breeze. We had asked the front desk for one extra towel since we were 3 in the room and they only gave us 2 towels. It took 4 phone calls and no one showed so my husband found the housekeeper and she gave us the extra towel. We had also went to the front desk to ask for a blanket since my young son was cold at night with the air conditioning, they never showed up, we called 3 times after that and still no show. We found the housekeeper again and she did get us one. Rafael at the bell desk was wonderful and helped us with transportation to visit friends at another nearby resort. All in all it wasn't terrible, and we knew going that this was a lower end resort than we had been in previously, but probably won't return.

good resort for the price

Nice resort, very clean, staff is very friendly and accommodating. Beach is fantastic and goes on forever. Pools are nice, just wish they had a swim up bar. Entertainment every night was great. Lots to do on the resort. Restaurants were good but nothing amazing. Room was great, very clean and in great shape, all the rooms have balconies, we had a garden view with a peak at the ocean.

Hotel Description

VIK Hotel Arena Blanca: Slip Beneath the Stress

Feeling drained? That's your body telling you it's time to recharge! No fuel is better than the sun, sand and sea at the VIK Hotel Arena Blanca. Located in tropical Punta Cana, the beachfront resort is a gem. The exquisite spa, gorgeous pools and nearly 24-hour entertainment for honeymooners ad families are just the start to a care-free experience in paradise.

The ivory shores of Bavaro Beach beckon sunbathers while snorkelers and scuba divers find bliss off shore. What's more, the resort offers non-motorized water activities free of charge. Skim over the waves on a complimentary catamaran excursion, or head to the resort's pool for a game of water polo. If you'd rather just relax and bask in the island atmosphere, though, the resort also provides loungers, palapas and towels for you to do just that. A refreshing beverage from the beachside Bucanero Bar tops off a perfectly beachy afternoon.

When dinnertime rolls around, check out El Mirador to sample the theme-based evening menu this buffet has in store. If you want Caribbean-style meals, La Proa serves up meat and seafood dishes with signature Island flair. In the mood for Italian? Don your best "smart casual" ensemble and make an appearance at La Trattoria for pasta dishes served a la carte. On Fridays, the decision is easy. Head straight for El Cano, where guests enjoy a fun seaside barbecue under the stars.

After dinner, the party keeps going at Calipso Bar until 5am. If the night's still young, though, the Fun Pub is the best spot to get groovin'. Then, if you feel like you're on a roll, venture to the Towers Casino to see how Lady Luck treats you.

If gambling is a step too close to the wild side for you, get a good night's rest instead, and prepare for the relaxation experience of your life at Etra Spa. From private parlors for couples massages to a full-service hair salon, the resort's on-site spa pampers you until the cares of ordinary life become distant memories.
