Great people

We enjoyed our stay at Sunscape Bavaro Beach. The staff was the friendliest that we have ever encountered. We lost power one night and they did their best to keep everyone happy and having a good time. The resort grounds are beautiful as are the pools. The only negative was the seaweed on the beach. Although they were cleaning up the seaweed all the time, it really wasn’t clean enough to go in the water.

Pictures do not give this place a fair expectation

Family booked this trip as a gift from Santa to the children and I would not recommend this location to others. Many of the pictures that are provided on this website make the beach, amenities and other things very appealing. My wife and I reached the destination first and were able to witness immediately that the beach is not the crystal blue waters that seemed to be promised. The waters were extremely murky and the beach area was consistently windy on all five days that we stayed at the resort. Understanding that this is Punta Cana's winter season it was still disappointing to those from the North. When viewing dining options, the best place was the buffet as they offered the same consistent meals and same consistent quality. Other locations, such as the pizza shop would run out of food often leaving children and struggling parents to fend for other options. One true value in this all inclusive trip was the alcohol and open bars. There were two swim up bars, a bar in each lobby and two very close bars next to the beach and auxiliary pool. The rooms and mini fridge were consistently kept up, my family and I chose not to drink the tap water but would drink the bottled water. Overall, I would not recommend this location but I would try a location on the south side of the country for hopes of better water and better weather. Also, they were doing construction throughout the resort and installing a dock during the duration of our trip. Hopefully they warn you that they will be doing construction before you travel across the world!

Even the Employees rated it a 2 star resort :(

Sunscape Bavaro is closing... so it's employees tell us that is why it's so run down and they have not put any money into it. VERY DISAPPOINTING to say the least. Day 1 - Employees arguing in front of us, room dirty, no wash cloths or hand towels. No water in frig, cabinet door broken, patio door broken, towel rack broken... they tell us if we want to move to an other room, it will cost us an additional $40 per night!! Day 2 - No pool towels. No coffee cups at the coffee shop. They offer to take us to one of their other resorts for a "free breakfast" that will take 90 mins... after 3 HOURS!!! they will not let us leave and my husband starts walking :( Day 3 - No water available for breakfast. Again no wash cloths clean for our room. Housekeeper offers us a dirty one from the bottom of her cart that is crusty and has hair on it :( Out of coffee for the room, food quality is very poor. Especially the meat... really gross. Fruit and desserts are amazing. No fresh fish as you might expect, only soggy breaded fish pieces that are not very good. CONSTANT CONSTRUCTION - we have now been told that resort has been sold and that is why it is in such bad shape. So, there is constant construction going on... on the beach and at the pool all you can hear all day long, until well after dark is the sound of pounding as they are building some kind of pier. In the resort and outside of the buffet, where you eat breakfast and lunch, they have boarded up and closed the lobby, bar and check in area and there is constant pounding, jack-hammering and noise all day long!! Employees are unhappy, guests are unhappy...Instead of greeting you at restaurants they say "what do want?" :( Not enough napkins or coffee cups at buffet. Bathrooms are dirty and not being cleaned. Power box catches fire in bar area and resort loses power for over 6 hrs LOL My husband goes up front one morning to meet his ride to go diving and finds out that the entrance to the resort has been closed... he has to walk to resort next door to find his ride. No one told us. They slipped a note under our door the first night wanting us to shop in their trinket store, but couldn't let us know about this?? Crazy! Caution tape everywhere. It was so bad that on the 5th day we just left... just left the resort walking... didn't know where we were going, but couldn't take it anymore. Not relaxing at all :( The 6th day we went on an excursion so we didn't have to be there. We have been on many vacations over the years, and this had to be the worst :( Weather was great, so we did our best to stay positive, but SO bummed that did not tell us what was going on and offer to let us choose another destination. :(

Lobby of Resort Closed :( Constant pounding on Beach :(

"The Red Roof Inn" of Punta Cana

As a frequent (but not picky) traveler, this was my first time in the Dominican. I did not purchase the Sunclub package (and I'm glad I didn't). Here is my basic assessment of the resort. FYI: A week after we left we were told that the resort was going to change names and ownership. Pluses: -Pool was clean. -My room in building 25 was clean and everything work. -The Chopsticks restaurant was good, but I had to wait in line for 30 minutes to get a reservation at 9PM for 9 people. -Drinks were very strong. Almost too strong that it didn't taste that good. -The property was maintained well and clean. -Check-in and out was painless, but there were only a few people at the desk so the lines were long. -The waitstaff at the restaurants were semi-pleasant. The reasons why I wouldn't stay here again: -You HAD to pay for the internet to get any kind of connection. There was no free connection in the lobby. -The buffet was not good. It was eatable, but the worst I've had at an all inclusive. I'm glad I wasn't there longer than 4 days. -The Sunclub: Two of my friends had a room there. Both of their rooms had things that were broken (air conditioner) or had bugs in their rooms. -Towels were not very accessible if you tried to get one in the middle of the day. I ended up keeping mine for 3 days so that I at least had one. -The staff was not too friendly. Either they wanted to pitch you something, in which case they were very friendly, or they didn't seem very helpful.

The teal waters that hug El Cortecito Beach, which will hypnotize you for hours.

Swimming with dolphins - Bucket List item you must do.

Scuba diving - there's a fee, but dive in. It's a memory-making kind of thing.

Snagging a boat over to the sublime Saona Island - an unforgettable day trip.

What We'd Change

Sometimes it's hard to find complete peace at the pool, but this is a family-friendly resort so lots of young ones will be splashing around.

Why You Should Go

It's only 25 minutes from the airport - Instant Happiness is very close.

You can go reef exploring, whale watching or for less water, hang out in a floating spa.

Isla Catalina is near and has dramatically beautiful coral reefs for snorkeling & diving.

The resort can arrange an intimate dinner - just for two - in a variety of romantic spots.

Play a round at the Cocotal Golf Course designed by the famous Pepe Gancedo.
