Amazing time at the RIU Palace

Just got back from a vacation with friends at the RIU Palace Punta Cana and it was amazing. The check in was a breeze. Our rooms weren't ready yet because we arrived so early, so we just relaxed, had a drink and checked things out. When we did get our rooms we were all happy with them. The hotel placed us right by each other with garden and pool views. The rooms were all clean and beautiful. At one point our toilet wasn't flushing properly so we called the front desk and within five minutes someone was there to fix it. Very prompt and courteous. We ate at the buffet most of the time which was really good. Japanese restaurant 1 night was good, and the steak house which was just ok. Food good, service not so much. Special shout out to Paco, Sandy & Annie who were our waiters all week...AMAZING! They had our table set up for us at every meal. Service on the beach and at the pool was great never an empty glass Beach was beautiful. I know a lot of people are mentioning the seaweed, but there wasn't hardly any when we were there. One tip, don't try and save your chairs on the beach with a towel or belongings. We went down late one day and one of the helpful workers gathered us six chairs, which we were thankful for, but all six of them were ones people had their stuff on to save. If the employees notice you haven't been at your chair they will put your stuff aside and take it for someone who is there. I actually think this is a good thing, but wanted to warn y'all. Bring some small cash for tipping. These guys work hard and appreciate the tips. Also, they will take good care of you for your entire vacation. Another great RIU vacation in the books!!

Had a great time despite the snafoos .

I had a great time ultimately but I personally would’nt stay at this resort again BUT it might work for some people and it’s not all bad. Pros: Great excursions: I did 2 different ones and they were both fantastic. I did the VIP Saona adventure and the Ocean Spa adventure. This is something you can do alone or with a group. Huge resort. Beach was long. Could wander for miles. There is also shopping and nightlife right on the resort. Their are five or so resorts that are attached in this huge strip. Beach was huge and beautiful could find a quiet spot any time of the day. Great breakfast buffet. I was a solo traveler and I felt fine eating and going around alone. There were plenty of people around doing their own thing. Gym and spa were great. Access to the jacuzzi and steam room and even bathrooms does not match the fitness center though. Loved Amstar reps. Great mini bar in room. Close to airport. No bumpy roads. Cons: Didn’t feel like hotel room was super clean. Blanket had dried blood. Shower had soap scum. Top sheet was stained. Limited room service menu and no room service menu in the room when I got there. Forced to eat at main buffet even though I was exhausted. Lunch buffet and food at sports bar was not fit for human consumption. Very processed. Remote areas of the resort and aggressive local sellers roam the beaches. Staff was nice but seemed unorganized. Instructor for group class didn’t show. Schedule posted was wrong. Everything is in spanish. Can be interesting sometimes if you are not a Spanish speaker. Bed super uncomfortable. All foreign electrical outlets. Pools closed at 6 or 7. Thought this was too early. Beach chairs were gross. Stepped on a piece of a broken beach chair and almost cut my foot. No shampoo or conditioner. Had to buy a 10.00 bottle of shampoo. Food caused serious Stomach issues. Imodium was 25 dollars

Resort Had a great time despite the snafoos .

Great Resort

Riu Palace is a beautiful resort. The landscaping is nicely manicured. The grounds were well kept and always spotless. The junior suite was quite large and definitely met our needs. It was always clean. Maid service did a great job. Their pool entertainment team is highly energetic and got people involved in activities. The swim up bar is nice. The bar staff was friendly, especially Kelvin. He was a great bartender. They have several restaurant choices for dinner. We enjoyed the French restaurant the most. I wish they were all on the waterfront though. At the steak restaurant my lobster was over cooked and my friend's steak was under cooked. Beach is beautiful white sand. Waves were awesome to play in. The waves were HUGE. Snorkeling right on the beach wasn't really an option because the waves were so big. We wanted to take out the kayaks but again the waves were too much for that activity. The nightly shows were good. We took the short walk to the water park that is included with your stay. There are 5 slides. We enjoyed the one that you lie on a mat and go down the most. We both hit our heads pretty hard going down the blue slide, so I'd avoid that one. Overall it was a good way to spend and hour our so. There is also a section for small children. You CAN'T go down slides with any jewelry or cameras (even if it straps onto your wrist), but one of the staff members will lock them in a community box for you. It was a wonderful resort and the front desk staff was also very polite and helpful.

Best Vacation !

I stayed at the Riu with my boyfriend and it is now my favorite hotel ever. Not only is it very well maintained and kept very clean but the workers there are so kind, sweet and always willing to help with any and everything that you may need! The beach is beautiful and the entertainment at the pool is wonderful. The food at the buffets are Delicious and i can honestly say this was the best vacation so far. I really enjoyed myself and it is definitely kid friendly! They have a water park that is walking distance from the Riu palace and wellington at the front desk is so nice! Sanchez and Jose from the buffet were so kind and everyone else also. If you are debating on staying here or elsewhere, definitely choose the Riu palace you will be happy that you did! I cant wait to go back next year!
