Great experience

Usually I'm not a review writer but thought I'd write this one. I went solo and I must say I did not regret it. There was a bumpy start to the trip. First night my room was freezing even with the ac off and for a 24 hr room service I was surprised they couldn't provide an extra blanket until the next morning. Needless to say I slept in a jacket and woke up with a cold. With that being said, the issue was addressed first thing in the morning and the staff was very apologetic. After that it was smooth sailing. What I like the most was the personal attention to details. The staff gets to know you and provide services tailored to your particular needs. I was not in need of anything. The wait staff was amazing, I'm not a big drinker so I cant comment on the drinks but I did have their Champaign which was pretty good. The beach by far is one the best I've been to for a resort. It's not rocky which was a plus, you can walk for miles and the upkeep by staff was good. Nightly entertainment wasnt bad either. The food was ok, I wasn't blown away by the breakfast and dinner selections. I was a bit disappointed that the food was more international than local. However pancho lunches were pretty good and in the perfect location to view the beach while you eat. The mini bar in the room was ok. They restocked it daily with soda, water and beer. Overall for someone who travelled solo I never once felt like I was alone because of the staff. Take a chance and you'll create and unforgettable memory! (I have to give credit to the housekeeper Maria who kept everything to my liking. When I say attention to details she's a perfect example. She noticed I slept with a towel on my pillow from me leaving it there in the morning. Every night when I returned she left a clean towel on top of my pillow and my sheets were turned down nightly. This was all done without me even asking!)

Great Service

The Riu Palace Macao had a wonderful staff! They were super friendly and accommodating! The reason I gave the food only 3 points, is because only certain restaurants were open on certain nights. The quality of the food was good.

Adult getaway

We have stayed at other RIU resorts and looked forward to the new adventure in the Dominican Republic. The white sandy beaches and blue waters did not disappoint. The wait staff and activity staff worked very hard to ensure guests were accommodated at the pools and the beach. The loungers in the pools were a nice break from the sun. On another note, the rooms at the resort were quite dated. The beds were quite uncomfortable. When I read reviews regarding the problems with air conditioning, I thought that must be an isolated case. No - we had the same problem as well as other guests. And yes, they were reported. The breakfast was great and dinner options were good however not all restaurants are open every day. The lunch option is limited to one restaurant choice unless you go to the cappuccino bar and is the same every single day which gets very old. As part of adult only resort, you have access to 3 of the resorts nearby. Most of the nighttime activities were held at the other resorts - disco, pool party, jungle party. Why would you have primarily adult activities at family resorts? When I vacation at an all inclusive, I want everything to stay at the same location. Overall it was a good vacation. Would I go back to this place - probably not.

Great purchase for the money

Very nice resort. Would definitely go again. It could’ve had better eating choices and more space for the pools. If you didn’t get there early you couldn’t get a spot. Beach was beautiful though. Awesome shows and not the greatest nightclub. DJ played the same songs every night and just local music which was ok but could’ve been better with the mixture especially since there were a lot of tourists.

What's to Love

No reservations needed for any of the restaurants.

The 16-mile stretch of the legendary Arena Gorda Beach that will be your backyard of bliss.

It's an adults-only paradise = no cannonballs or high-pitched squealing at the pool.

The delicious treatments at the spa like anxiety-erasing massages, facials, and body wraps.

Stealing away at the Beach Eden, Soana Island. It's like being marooned, but in a good way.

Free WiFi throughout the rockin' resort. Update your status 'til the sea cows come home.

The handy, dandy liquor dispensers in your room. You can have that hour of happy any time you want.

What We'd Change

Drinks at Pacha nightclub are not included in the all inclusive package. But with four other bars offering free beverages, as well as Copacabana Amphitheater, you'll be just fine.

Why You Should Go

It's only 19 miles from the airport - that beach vacay you've been craving will be unfolding ASAP.

Three world-class golf courses are nearby. Grab those clubs. Play like you mean it.

Try your hand at water polo or Volleyball. Body boarding or Pedaloes. Get all sporty.

Set your sights on the beautiful sugar fields of Higuey and Altos de Chavon - a picture-worthy day trip.

You can ride horses at the Caribbean Cachondeo, or hang with the stingrays at the Marinarium Marine Park.

Check out Caribbean Street - shop 'til you drop. Then start all over again.
