Average resort

I’ve been to other Riu’s In the Caribbean and have never been disappointed. I wasn’t necessarily disappointed in this Roy, however, it didn’t live up to all the others. The hotel itself is gorgeous and well-maintained but the staff detracts from all that. They aren’t always the friendliest and it is clear they are all just waiting for a tip. The pool was gorgeous but not very clean (lots of floating objects throughout the day) and the beach was huge but not well kept up. There were mounds of seared along the coast. A short walk to a neighboring resort showed that they picked up and removed the sewers nightly, which is not the case at the Riu. Also, the surf is very active with many waves and not the tranquil calm Caribbean waters I was expecting. The food was delicious, however 5/6 people I traveled with experienced digestive issues from it. It was a nice vacation, and the weather wasn’t perfect, but that will definitely be our last trip to the DR. I’m

Resort good. Cheap Caribbean, not so good

We really liked RIU Bravaro. The reason I say Bravaro is because when we arrived at RIU Palace Macoa they had no information on us from Cheap Caribbean. They had no room for us even though we booked this trip months ago. RIU came through by upgrading us to the VIP - (Adults Only section) of their neighboring property Bravaro. The trip started badly because American Airlines changed their plane so the flight was overbooked by 15 people. We were fortunate enough not to be part of the 15 people bumped from the flight. So after putting up with that, we ended up at a hotel with no reservation for us from Cheap Caribbean. As mentioned, the people at RIU took good care of us and everything at the new place was great.

Great Time

We arrived on in the evening and the transportation company was fantastic!!! Greeted at the lobby with drinks and the staff was ready for our arrival. Rooms were clean and fully stocked with drinks. The shower in the room was perfect and roomy. Breakfast was on point and the service staff was always friendly. Although the liquor available was not what I was used too it was still good and plentifully. I’m a bit of an over tipper but it pays off as the staff remembers you and treats you like a rock star. Only thing I wish I would have done differently was I should’ve stayed longer.

Mixed Feelings

Hotel is absolutely beautiful. So many palm trees! The beach is beautiful and great for sunbathing and swimming. The food was a disappointment not the best options or quality..I would have enjoyed being able to get served food around the pool and bottled waters, but that was not an option available as we did request. The Breakfast Buffet and the Steak Restaurant were definitely the best. The lunches were not good. Room service is very limited. Only a few items to choose from. Most of the servers were not very friendly. Edward in the Coffee shop and the Activity Directors were absolutely the friendliest. Checking in was great. Roberto made sure we got a great room and helped us with an upgrade. We opted for the suite, which I highly recommend you do. The beds however is quite hard and not comfortable. The RIU pool parties were amazing, top notch and made the entire stay worthwhile for us as we were a group of ladies on a girls trip. We went to the day pool party and the night pool party and both parties were hosted by a dj, we had a sax player and dancers. So much fun honestly it was something to always remember. I have stayed at several RIU's in Mexico and they were amazing. While this hotel is absolutely beautiful and in a great location, I wouldn't say not to go here but I'm not sure we would go back as we do like more attentive service and having more food options and bottled waters. Service is very important to our group and we felt only a few of the hotel staff understood that during our stay.
