Not a 4 star place!

Pools were nice and food was just ok. Hard to get reservations for the sit down dinners. Beach was smelly and not cleaned of seaweed enough. Piles and piles of smelly sargassum! Water was brown...not blue... due to this horrible sea plant that is being uprooted and shedding from the ocean floor. It smells terribly! Mound and mounds of it on the beach and in the water, making swimming impossible. I know it is not the fault of the resort, but customers should be warned before booking at a resort in the Caribbean. Getting clean towels was a huge problem. Many days I had to air dry or dry off with a hand towel. They would take the dirty towels on the floor and never replace them. When I called, it took hours before we would get 2 towels. EVERY DAY I had to call the front office for towels. I just do not get that! Toilet seat falling off, sliding door off track (which caused BIG bugs to get in while I was at the pool), etc., etcl... No way this was even close to a 4 star.

Bad Experience

The resort is not worth all the hype. The food is mediocre and the customer service is awful. Checked in on a Tuesday and complained the same day that the room did NOT have a fully functioning AC but no one came to look and our room was not changed. When down to the front desk to complain on Wednesday and still, no results. Call down again on Thursday night and finally the technician came and confirmed that the AC was NOT working. The front desk told us we could not get a new room. We would have to check out the next day at 12pm and wait until 3pm to get a new room. After a 2 hours run around we finally got a new room but our stay was pretty much over and we wasted two hours of our day fighting to get a room with a working AC. The management and staff did nothing to make up for the inconvenience. They could have cared less because they were already paid. Don’t waste your time or money on this resort. Still waiting for a call from the manager.. I’ve been checked out for over one week. I would NOT recommend this resort to anyone!

Our first all-inlcusive experience

Please keep in mind for this review that it is our first all-inclusive experience!! We arrived late on a Saturday night (10PM) and did NOT receive help with understanding where our room was located. We are fairly smart so we just searched around for a map and stumbled upon our villa. Disappointed with the beach as this was our first visit to Punta Cana. The seaweed was out of control! The staff was trying to do their best to clean it up so it would not be a nuisance. By the end of the week the seaweed was almost completely cleared up. The restaurants were decent. Smaller portions a la carte which was fine because of the buffet style La Tortuga that was always open for dinner as well. We were concerned going into this trip about the water situation and that was NEVER a problem. We requested bottle waters at the bar---a few extra a day to take back to our minibar and never had an issue. The maids were excellent and took good care of stocking our waters in the minibar as well. The room was nicely furnished and love the balcony outside. The resort was very LOUD. Which if you are into partying hard was fine. We weren't so that was a little annoying but not an issue that can't be overlooked. The pools were great to have since the beach was not so beautiful for this week with the stench and amount of seaweed on it. The only issue we had is when my husband locked himself out of our safe we had to call 3x and wait for 2 hours for someone to come and fix it. Ocean Blue is a large resort so we understand waiting a bit but nevertheless this seemed a bit long. We had booked an excursion ahead of time but after our welcome meeting with the transportation company we opted to book another excursion through the Amstar travel agents there onsite (which were amazing by the way!!) WE chose the Marinarium experience and for us it was our first time snorkeling. We had a great time---but it is basically a party scene. The resort was beautifully landscaped and well maintained! Lots of local birds!!! Overall we had a great time. The language barrier was tough but the staff we had attempted to understand us and we tried as well. Tips go a long ways there. People are very appreciative and we felt the difference when we tipped and when we didn't. So bring some extra 1's.

It was Nice

The hotel was average nice. The staff was extremely friendly and helpful. The food was okay. I choose the all inclusive and it was well worth it. The beds were comfortable. The rooms were clean. I was disappointed with the beach view. For some reason they have these big cement mounds in the water. I heard it was to protect the beaches from the storms. It was ugly and an eye soar. The photo of the resort is much nicer than in real life. REMEMBER to tip: these people make $150 a month!!!

Hotel Description

Ocean Blue & Sand Beach Resort, Punta Cana: Get Ready to Double Down

If life feels like one long day after another, give yourself permission to check out the magnificent Ocean Blue & Sand Beach Resort. The Ocean Blue and Ocean Sand share facilities, which means twice the activities of an average resort by offering dining and amenities for every one of their guests with access to both resorts. Each resort houses half of the combined 708 five-star suites and junior suites. VIP concierge service is offered for Privilege Jr. Suites.

Located along the lush Dominican Republic's Punta Cana, this all-inclusive dreamboat offers water activities, such as snorkeling, windsurfing and scuba diving, plus unique ways to see the sights, including a cool beachfront climbing wall. Float under swaying palm trees in the quiet pool or order a margarita and join the party at the other pool's swim-up bar. When you've had enough water fun, channel your inner Robin Hood at the archery range, shoot pool like Minnesota Fats, or peddle like Lance Armstrong on a bike.

If you're feeling in need of pampering, relax at Ocean Spa, then grab an Irish Coffee at Mike's, the coffeehouse at Ocean Blue & Sand. Fully caffeinated and ready to go, cash in at the Ocean Tower Casino, or strike out with the family at the bowling alley. If bowling balls aren't your cup of tea, splurge a little and grab a tee-time at nearby White Sands Golf Course, an 18-hole course designed by Spanish golf great, Jose "Pepe" Gancedo.

Guests can have their taste buds tickled with a smattering of delicious dining options from El Bodegon's Spanish tapas, to Route 66's 1950s diner, to La Casa de Mi Abuela's traditional Dominican fare. Dine where you like, when you like, with no reservations needed. And for those who really rock around the clock, you can play the night away at the resort's Wave Disco Bar. So if you just can't stop... you don't have to at Ocean Blue & Sand Beach Resort, where it's all inclusive, all of the time.
