Resort OK, Beach and Pool is best thing

Price good- The grounds, Beach area and Pools great. Rest is average or fair. Food in buffett was bland and service slow. Restaurants are good Room was fair. lumpy bed. Cleaned okay. Very loud hotel in most areas. Buffet area loud, music playing at night til 1130 loud and can hear in room so hard to sleep as crowds continue the party long after midnight. Bring earplugs. If you want pizza, it's only in one spot and you must be dry and dressed and dine in and only a whole pizza ordered. so no pizza by the slice or grab when at pool or beach. They did have hamburger/hotdogs at Pool/Beach area that was okay. Entertainment staff is good and nice, but nightly shows are in a hot theater, no fans or air circulation so hard to stay for the shows when your melting. Premium Alcohol upgrade is pricey, $25 a day per person per night, then it's only located in one room on 3rd floor at an area farthest from pool beach and room so very inconvenient. My phone was stolen the last day there form our pool chair while swimming so lost all my pics so can't share those but it is pretty place. But suggest looking elsewhere, all beaches along that strip are super nice.

a week family (large group) vacation

Hello everyone! Will start with the best things about this hotel-- BEACH, BEACH, BEACH - amazing! Great pool areas, kids waterpark. WE had a large group ranging from 5 years old to 80 years old -- all enjoyed it very much. The worst thing about the hotel - was a super slow service everywhere from restaurants to kids club and guest services not being so helpful. Food is okay, everyone can find something, nothing fancy.

Occidental Caribe good choice

Beach and Pool areas were magnificent. Food choice highly recommend making reservations at the resturants upon arrival. Buffet quality was sub par. Would suggest doubling up on the buffet staff for prompt service. Buy your liquor at duty free.... luckily we were premium members giving us access to top shelf alcohol served only in the premium club room. Game room consisted of 6 pool tables and table tennis. Nice for families lots of activities for kids rock climbing and trapeze as well as water sports... trip to saona island was OKAY. Beach at Occidental is better in my opinion. Saona island bring money... and expect to ve there all day. Maid staff was very friendly. We loved ENTERTAINER mateo very friendly. Gustavo in Italian resturante was superb in service. Found that women bartenders were not friendly to us (women). Would suggest that they smile or not stare at hotel guests. Although there were fear mongering stories about the dominican republic we found our stay to be relaxing, safe and secure. At no point did we think we were in danger. Also save yourself the cab transfer fees... cabs to this hotel was 40.00 for 4 people as oppose to 30.00 for each as sold by cheap.caribbean
