You get what you pay for

Overall this was a vacation after all so it was relaxing and beautiful but the building of the hotel wasn't as expected. I did not see any pictures in the photos of what it actually looks like inside. Our room was very nice and kept tidy but the walls were as good as paper between other vacationers. I was able to hear our neighbors snoring. The beach is very spacious, the food was great, choice of restaurants weren't too "available" but my boyfriend and I weren't too picky since we made reservations for dinner every afternoon. I would only recommend this resort to my fellow college friends who are on a strict budget, otherwise I'd definitely go the extra mile to find a resort that is worth travelling and paying for.

Holiday stay

Overall it was good stay, but the rooms need upgrading. We were given a poor room that wasn’t cleaned and no ac. The phone didn’t work, the bed was broke and we could not get maintenance. We were moved to another room when our bathroom started leaking from the ceiling. Things improved once in the new room.

Great hotel and service

All personal were very nice and helpful. I loved all the people serving at the bars. Room pretty clean all the time, hotel, pools CLEAN. Towel lady not very helpful always with her bad attitude, never happy serving you. Beach view was excellent, super near to the hotel.

Not what I expected

The resort is beautiful. There was some hurricane damage but not too distracting. We paid for the upgrade so we could get an ocean view and the view was very nice. Once we got settled into our room we went down for some dinner to the buffet (after finding out that in order to go to the restaurants we needed to be there at 7:00 am each morning to make a reservations for that night). Buffet was ok.. not great but you’re on vacation and there was still a chance to get good food. After dinner had a couple drinks (waiter was very nice) went to bed. At 4:00 am we are awoken to the sound of people setting up the silverware, plates and cups for that days breakfast. It was really loud! Once we got up we went to the front desk and Ms. Romero was very kind and went out of her way to help us get into another room, she was very kind and understanding. In short I felt she was one of the best employees they have. Our new room was exactly the same as the one before but our view was not as beautiful. We could see the ocean but not as well as the first room, and we did sleep good, not noise to keep us up… the beds are amazing! Our air conditioner stopped working and when we reported it to the front desk they had someone up there straight away and it was fixed in not time. At night time they do like to play the music very loud so for a younger crowd this might be a good thing. If your older and have children…. Maybe no? It also could have had something to do with the fact that they were hosting a wedding so not a huge deal. Every morning we were greeted by a man named Benito. Very helpful and very friendly, he went out of his way to make sure we were doing ok, I think he was selling time shares but it wasn’t high pressure at least from my prospective. We decided to sign up for some excursions and met this guy who called himself “Situation”. Super friendly and signed us up for four excursion. 1) Santo Domingo tour was really great! Recommend this to everyone. But bring water!! Stopped at this restaurant for lunch …. The food was so good!! The best we ate the entire time we were there!! 2) Boat ride and snorkel: They took us to an island (very beautiful).. we could swim, snorkel and they fed us lunch and drinks. Lunch was amazing!! The beach was very beautiful!.. snorkeling was not great but everything else was just perfect. This is a must do tour!! 3) We did the swim with the sharks/sting Rays. I really enjoyed it but my companions did not really enjoy it except for the boat party afterwards and getting into the water. Not much snorkeling. 4) Speed boats. Not so great! My husband and I shared a boat and our instructions were not clear. Apparently our boat had two gears… run and run… you had to bend over the back of the boat and pull the choke to stop it. Eventually they gave us another boat and then gave our broken boat to some other couple. The new boat was ok but we didn’t boat for very long. They took us to this place where we got out of the boats and sat around for what seemed to be a very long time for photo shoots.. The photographer was very nice and actually talented but it was a bit tedious. They then took us to a pace out on the ocean where we could snorkel. Not the best snorkeling I’ve ever done but it was the best I’d seen in D.R. at that point. Very beautiful. The food. Not great! We did get up at 6:30 to make sure we got reservations so we wouldn’t have to eat the buffet. We had the choice of one or two restaurants because that was all the was open on one time other than the buffet. 1) The Surf and Turf was amazing! Really good food. 2) The Tokyo (Japanese) was so good! Best I think I have eaten, even if you don’t like Japanese food this is a must try! 3) Italian …. I don’t have anything good to say about this restaurant. All I can tell you is I physically got sick and had to leave the restaurant. Not good. 4) French: the shrimp cocktail was a shrimp salad with pineapple in it.. it was very good. The lobster crape…. Well not much lobster but the crape was burnt (black) and soggy. I also ordered the crème brulee. Also not good. It was also soggy and there was no crisp sugar coating on top. Casino was a blast. I don’t gamble but it was a lot of fun watching my husband and other people there playing 21. The wait staff were all very nice in the casino and in fact most of the bartenders and wait staff were really friendly but some of the female bartenders (not in the casino) were rude and short. Our last day waiting for the bus to take us to the airport, I could almost feel the daggers slamming into my back from the female bartender.
