Favorite vacation ever!

Just got back from a week there! The most beautiful beach, open not crowded with everything you need right there like a snack bar and drink service. The local vendors were a little annoying but went about there way if you smiled and said no thanks! My biggest reccomandatio is upgrading to a premium beachside room, this resort is huge. Our room was the 36 building and we were right on the beach and close to the pool! The staff is wonderful and accommodating, we bought a couple hundred in a ones for tipping it really can make it the difference between good vacation and great one. Another bonus was a free golf promotion at Coctol Golf course, only needed to pay for cart renal and clubs which was $35 USD. The course is beautiful and close to the resort Our only minor frustration was not knowing what the entertainment was ahead of time. Speaking of entertainment it was awesome especially the Michael Jackson night is not to be missed! (Get there early) The food isn’t bad, even the beachside buffet is good. It’s a resort and we don’t expect five star dining haha it is what it is! I definitely recommend this place!

Honeymoon Vaca

Overall we had an amazing vacation. Two factors that lowered our level of satisfaction with our trip were: Check-in times were ridiculous! It took us nearly an hour to check in. We talked to others there that the check-in time was even longer. The food was sub-par. We were expecting the dining experience to be an experience in and of itself. It was not. The buffet was basically the same choices of food every day and were definitely nothing great. The resort itself was beautiful, the beach, pool areas and grounds in general were beautiful, well maintained and always clean.

Disappointment

I use to love this place. It was my third time in the same resort, but they recently were bought out from another group and are under a new management now. The service use to be a 5 star in all aspects but now it is just poor. Starting with the check-in. It took literally one and a half hours standing in the line just to get started with the check-in process and then I had to come back to the reception area three hours later to get the keys to my room. I had a reservation for a deluxe room with one king size bed, but the room they gave me had two full size beds. I complained about it and they said they could not do anything about it because the hotel was "overbooked". They changed the breakfast and lunch restaurants for worse. The quality of the food use to be excellent in terms of variety and taste, now it looks like they are trying to save money everywhere they can and it looks like they cut at least 40%of the options they had before. The number of people serving is reduced drastically, and the people serving in the restaurants don't seem to be well trained. It is just one disappointment after another. This was definitely my last time there.

Disappointed

Just returned from a week at the Level. Dec. 9 through 16. This was my 6th time. Honestly, had a below average experience, I believe primarily due to all the construction of creating the new Melia Beach resort on the property. Had previously been given a building on the Level area close to the beach. This time, they had assigned us a building close to the Gabi. In my reservation through Cheap Caribbean, I had specifically requested buildings 30-34.Way too far from the each for us. Somebody really dropped the ball. They reluctantly gave us a room in building 30. It was OK, but clearly in the process of redecorating and painting. Paint splatters everywhere. Missing cushions on the outside couch. Service level in the room was good. The checkin process was a fiasco. Both lobby areas severely under construction, new people being trained. Didn't get taken to the Level lobby for checkin but did it up front. Not smooth at all. What USED to be the Quattro restaurant area is now only a buffet. that was a huge disappointment to us. We rarely went up front for meals and entertainment. 5 of the up front restaurants were closed, under construction. There was a fire up there last may and they are recovering from that. The Level side of the beach area was clearly NOT being policed as being "adults only" as advertised. Lots of kids. The beach bar / snack area was OK, but selection was clearly less than previous years. Don't know if they had evening entertainment or not. The previous location that evening entertainment was completely walled off. Beach drink service was subpar. We were told that all the services that we were used to in the previous Level area will be in the NEW Melia Beach resort level area, including the Quattro restaurant area by the beach. Indeed, a new water park is still under construction and is situated between the two facilities. I seriously doubt if they hit their Dec. 15 opening date for any of the new facility. We did not go look but it just didn't look ready from what we could see from the beach. I'll be interested to see how the new facility turns out and will be reading reviews of people staying there before I decide if I will return. Honestly, had I known all this, I would have skipped this year and give them another year to complete the transition. It was NOT as advertised (adults only, quattro, 12 restaurants, etc....) Lesson learned. Service staff was still very friendly. Pool area was still the same. I wish them success and hope they get it back to the "Level" of features and experience (pun intended) that we were expecting.
