Wonderful Adult Propety ;-)

Hi! So, my travel was in December to the Ambar resort, one of 4 or 5 restores in this compound. The Ambar is right on the beach and newly renovated- opened in Nov and was gorgeous! I was a single traveler and all of the staff made me feel so welcomed, that was wonderful and important. My room was upstairs, 1st floor has swim up pools, that wasn't important to me but fab for couples so deferred this and I was happy upstairs as requested. The best part for me was the entertainment each day and night night- they were AMAZING! Live music by the pool late afternoon 330 or 4pm. Then I would head to dinner and after, near the beautiful open air lobby, there was a violin player- pop contemporary and he was probably my favorite. They had a silent disco (crazy fun even if you don't dance, check it out) and the FOAM party in the pool was a hoot! Must do, bubble bath for adults, lol. I went to the new gym 3xs during my 8 night stay to compensate for the lack of exercise I get at home working like crazy...and for the plethora of yummy food I ate. The Sports Bar was next door and very cool for everyone, prob the men folk who can stay connected. Restaurants- all the menus were in many languages so you could likely find yours. Most of all staff in the restaurants spoke English, for me, that was helpful. I especially liked meeting people from all over- on my journey, I think there were 90% Canadians, lol...cold up there in Dec. Everyone was super nice and happy- it was Vaca! One issue is that some staff didn't speak English and I learned to get around it with using translator on my phone. I don't speak Spanish, but tried with the few words I knew. Wi-fi works once you get logged in. I would recommend setting restaurant reservations for the week or stay on the first day then you know your agenda. I did not do an excursion, was content to relax...why I was there. I would go back ;0) That's the best news I can give. ;0)

Employees are as warm as the DR weather!

My Christmas present from my parents this year was a 5-day vacation to the Bahia Principe in Punta Cana with my mom. We arrived in the Dominican Republic on December 27th, and stayed until the 31st. This was my first time traveling to Punta Cana, and my mom's third time. Everything about this resort was wonderful. The hotel room and grounds were extremely clean and well maintained. Everything was so perfectly manicured that you truly felt you were in a fantasy land! Our overall take-away from the vacation is that the employees of this resort are some of the hardest working, friendliest people we have ever had the pleasure of meeting. Due to windy weather, we spent most of our time at the pool, instead of on the beach where the sand was blowing. This was not, by any means, a disappointment. The pool is beautiful, and we enjoyed laying on the chaise lounges under our umbrella with the bar just a few steps away. Of course, if you did not want to make the trip, there were waitresses who frequently stopped by to see if you needed anything. Desiree made sure to take good care of us when we were by the pool. Another benefit to staying by the pool were the frequent activities put on by the Animation Team. Walter, Ice Cream (Welkin), Mitsel (Chocolate), and Jacqueline did a phenomenal job of making us feel welcomed and included in the entertainment. During our stay we took part in a wine tasting, stretching, a Spanish lesson, and the foam party at the pool. We greatly enjoyed these activities, which gave us a chance to get to know some of the employees better, and truly made our visit memorable. One of the benefits to this resort is the number of dining choices that you have. Las Brisas was our favorite breakfast buffet, as it allowed you to overlook the pool or ocean while you ate. Yefrey was a top-notch waiter who not only remembered our drink preferences, but also made sure that our cups were never empty - whether we were drinking cafe con leche or agua! We made reservations at Porto Fino, Maiko, and Santa Fe Tex Mex for dinner. Each restaurant was fabulous. I was pleasantly surprised by the quality of the Italian food at Porto Fino - I have high expectations! At Maiko, our hibachi chef Sony made us a delicious dinner and kept us laughing with his tricks. We also greatly enjoyed the appetizer buffet and entrees at Santa Fe, where our waiter Railyn made sure that we had everything we needed and was very attentive to our wine glasses. Taking a trip out of the adults only part of the resort was definitely worth it to enjoy the wide variety of delicious dinners at the various restaurants. The resort is large and can be overwhelming, but even the trolley driver was extremely kind and helpful, giving us a tour of the grounds and dropping us off right at the door of the restaurant we were heading to! My mom and I were blown away by how hard the employees work at this resort. They truly make you feel like you are part of the family, and are happy to see you during their various roles throughout the day. It is also comforting to see familiar faces around, whether it be by the pool during the day or on the dance floor at night in the hotel lobby. Our villa's butler, Francisco, even stopped by our table to say hello at dinner one night, and again when we were having drinks in the lobby. We felt like we were being given VIP treatment everywhere we went. If you have time, we highly recommend getting pedicures at the spa. The ladies there were meticulous, leaving us with baby soft feet and perfectly done nails. The only thing about the resort that we were disappointed in was the bathroom in the hotel room. The shower is completely open, and the door to separate the toilet from the rest of the room is made of frosted glass. Although the open concept is fine for couples, when you are traveling with friends (or in my case, my parent), a little more privacy would have been appreciated. Overall we had a phenomenal vacation and will be telling stories about our trip, including the new friends we made, for years to come! We truly cannot express enough how terrific the staff is at this resort. We can't wait to go back!

Great week in the Caribbean

Luxury Bahia Principe Amber was just what we needed. I will admit my review is based on 10 years of nothing but cruising so the whole time I was comparing the two vacation choices. Although I hadn't seen what Amber had looked like before the remodel I do have to say they did a great job. We booked a swim up room. Not sure it's worth the extra money but did think it was cool. If we did it again we would book an east facing room. Ours was west and didn't get sun on the pool until 3pm. The pool was awesome! Just like any resort you need to get there early to get the chairs you want, but there were only some available. The bartenders at the swim up bar are very entertaining. We are use to cruises where pools are tiny and packed. So this was refreshing to jump in pool whenever you want. Beach was well taken care of but harder to find chairs in the sun. Seaweed during the winter does get heavy but this resort is nonstop raking and keeping beach clean. Much better than surrounding resorts. Food was average. Lunch gets a bit repetitive. The new restaurants aren't as good as hoped. Portifino has limited options and it's hard to know what you're ordering. Plus the servers don't speak much English so they can't explain what you're ordering. MEAT was average. The best option was Sante Fe. From everyone we talked to it was their favorite also. I emailed the resort two weeks early to make reservations. Overall I would definitely come back and maybe one day will. But back to cruising for me.

Relaxing, fun getaway

Our second time to Punta Cana (also the 2nd time we've stayed with Bahia Principe). The people are wonderful; the resort is immaculate; and, the overall vibe is fun. No negatives at all. We stayed at Ambar which is one of the adults only resorts. Having no screaming kids makes everything better.

What's to Love

All-inclusive, swoon-worthy resort that caters to only beach-loving adults.

You're steps away from the beach - the rooms at Ambar are closer to the sands.

Tons of activities - three tennis courts, ping pong, foosball, soccer. Game on.

Reveling in all the facilities & restaurants (except buffets) at the Luxury Bahia Principe hotels and Grand Bahia Principe hotels in the complex.

What We'd Change

Sometimes getting from Ambar to enjoy the rest of the resort is a bit of a trek. Luckily, you can hitch a ride on the train that shuttles guests around.

Why You Should Go

You're just a short 30 minutes from Punta Cana International Airport.

You can snorkel in the turquoise ocean or explore them on a kayak or boogie board. One hour a day is free.

Don't miss the ahh-mazing spa. Remember - the kids aren't with you. It's your time.

Pueblo Principe is a little village at the resort with shops, a courtyard for shows and more.
