Good value

My family and I stayed here since we have a baby and can no longer go to adult only resorts. The ratings were good, and we got a great deal on Cheap Caribbean to try it out. Overall, the resort was nice, but definitely not 5 stars. The service was fabulous, but the resort (and the connected 3 other resorts) is just so massive. I think if you are looking for an economical place, with great service, this is for you.

Not Great

We booked Grand Palladium Bavaro for our 30th wedding anniversary and returned home very disappointed. Sadly to say, our experience was not great. Service was poor, beach was covered in seaweed (which I understand is a natural process) and not raked for the first 3 days we were there. Resorts on both sides of ours were being raked daily. Sales team was very pushy as were vendors on the property. Food was mediocre at best and staff in sports bar were very unfriendly. On a positive note, our house keeper was very friendly and did a fantastic job. My full review can be found on Trip Advisor "Self Service All Inclusive". We will not consider Grand Palladium for future travel.

This is a very large property - be prepared to walk, A LOT. Everything is so spread out. In fact, we never saw the entire resort. There are shuttle cars that will take you from place to place, but I found them hard to find unless I was at the main lobby. The property itself is very well-kept and beautiful. As far as food, there are a lot of restaurants but they are not all open at the same time. We were not very impressed with the food, it was average. The service was very hit or miss, and if you arrive 15-30 minutes before closing time, don't expect to get service. Our favorite place was actually the sports bar, which is open 24x7. The staff there was great. There are several pools. We only went to one, but it was well-staffed and we enjoyed the swim-up bar. Ordering a drink from a waiter/waitress took a long time to get. There were a lot of chairs to choose from, especially if you got there before noon. The beaches are public, so beware of vendors wanting to sell you everything from parasailing, to sunglasses, to hair braids. Beware of the man with the parrots...he will place them on you without a word and then demand $20 per person for pictures. There were a lot of vendors on the property itself, which I didn't care for...selling jewelry, hats, photography, etc. They were a bit pushy at times. The rooms were nice, but we had trouble with the air-conditioning. The mini-bar was restocked every day, which was great. The room was always clean. Beware that the shower and toilet doors are a frosted glass, so there is no real privacy, if that's important to you. We had a nice time here, but I'm not sure i would go back.

Good Experience

Grand Palladium Bavaro Suites and Spa is a beautiful place. Most of the employees were wonderful, especially the bellboys and bartenders. Edgar, our rep for tours for Cheap Caribbean was very helpful also. The grounds are beautiful and very well maintained. Our room was nice, but we had reserved a king bed and were given two doubles. Also, it was on a corner facing a building under construction and the workers began banging very early in the morning, waking us up. We went to the front and asked for a different room because of these two factors. They were unable to give us one right away, (we arrived on Monday) but on Wednesday they moved us across and down the hall . This was the same style room, but at the other end facing the ocean with a king bed. It was absolutely gorgeous. We had a beautiful view of palm trees and ocean and it was just perfect. They also delivered a bottle of rum to our room. Our children had their own room, and a bottle of rum was delivered to theirs also, but we were charged for that one at the end of the trip. The beach was nice but there was a ton of seaweed. Definitely not one of the best beaches we have been to in the Caribbean, despite reviews that I had read ahead of time. There are also a lot of people trying to sell things on the beach. This didn't bother us, as they left us alone if we said no. Beware of pictures with monkeys or parrots though, as they want money after they've put the animals on your shoulder and you've taken a picture. We have encountered this other places too so we knew what to expect. The pools are super fun with a lot of activity and great swim up bars. There are a lot of restaurants to choose from for dinner. Some are very good, some are not. We thought the Japanese was definitely the best. No problem finding something you like for dinner though with so many options. There is also the sports bar if you just want a burger or some wings. For breakfast we found the lobby buffet to be the only option. This food was not good. This was the only meal, although every day, that we didn't like. The fruit and oatmeal were good, but everything else was dry or tasteless for breakfast. The one thing we did not like at this resort was that they are very very pushy trying to get you to join their vacation club. When we arrived, David told us if we went to breakfast at the Royal (all adult) section one morning my girls and I would get a free massage. We were thinking of doing it for the messages since the girls wanted them. we were with two other families though, who were also promised this by their representative, Paul. They went the day before ours was scheduled and were kept for FOUR hours. They were told they could not have their gift unless they stayed the entire time. They were not interesting in buying but the sales people were very pushy and would not let them go earlier unless they forfeited their gift. By the time they finally got out, they ended up with a basket including some coffee, t shirts and a beach bag instead of the messages because they didn't want to take any more time away from the beach. When we heard about this we canceled our breakfast as I was not willing to spend four hours of my vacation listening to someone talk about something I didn't want to purchase. David continued to find us and hound us about rescheduling and would not let us. I finally told him I would give him one hour with lunch and he said ok. We met at the designated time, 12:00, and he rode the tram with us to the Royal. When we got there he said two hours. I insisted on only one, he said ok, and went to get someone else, I guess his boss. This man said we would be done at 2:30. I said I would not stay longer than 1:15 to which at first they said fine, until I asked for the spa vouchers up front. Then they said, no, at 2:30 or 3:00 you'll get them. Again I refused to stay that long so they put us back on the tram and we went back to the beach without the lunch or sales pitch. We met some people in the pool bar later that day who said the same thing happened to them. They opted out of the meal, thinking it would be short because they were promised it would take 20 minutes without breakfast or lunch. Theirs took two hours. They were very unhappy about the waste of time, as were our friends. After that, David continued to try to convince us to do it and when we kept saying no he actually got mad at us. By the last two days he was rolling his eyes at us and looking away when he saw us. Other than that, everything was great at this resort. It was kid friendly for those with little ones, but also great for our high school graduates and college age kids. It's a great resort for any age and any occasion. And the Micheal Jackson show was incredible.

What's to Love

All-inclusive beachy hot spot on the jaw-dropping Bavaro Beach. Totally worth it.

Spectacular service that spoils you from the moment your flip-flops hit the deck. And, reservations not needed at the restaurants.

Five pools throughout the complex where you can sip and sun and savor this vacay haven.

Cocktail service on the beach and at the pool. Let the drinks come to you, while you sip under the Palapa.

Detoxing at the gym, then being pampered at Zentropia Spa - nothing beats sinking into a Turkish Bath.

Activities galore for you and the fam, including a Kid's Club and a club for the teens.

What We'd Change

This is a huge resort, but it has to be if you want all the great features.

Why You Should Go

A short zippy ride from the airport to the resort where a Welcome Cocktail awaits you and the party starts.

You've got privileges at the two other resorts in the Palladium Punta Cana complex. Mega bonus.

A palatial sized resort that caters to all your dining whims. Some are spread out, giving you time to explore.

Themed parties throughout the week - like the Foam party on Thursday. Crazy fun.

Buy your tourist card before you leave - saves a step at the airport so you can get beachy faster.
