For a moment, imagine: you're floating in the largest pool you've ever seen on the earth and in the near distance you can see the beach. The teal waves are calling your name, but so are your kiddos - they've just won the sand castle competition. The only thing that could even possibly be lacking is a refresher for your margarita, but look! You've just floated up to the swim-up bar, where your luscious libation is just seconds away.

Beautiful place
Everywhere we looked was beautiful. We loved the landscaping and the flamingoes wandering around were very cool. The beach was gorgeous. The pool was amazing. We had a swim-up room, and were slightly disappointed that there were no steps or ladders near our "swim-up" room. We had to swim down a ways to get out and then walk back to our room. A young person could easily lift themselves out, but we older adults, not so much. Our neighbor a few doors down had access to the pool steps, but had to come down to our end of the building to the bridge to cross the pool, for access to the restaurants, beach, pool bar, etc.. So that was a bit disappointing. Also, the pool is divided in half, and we could not swim up to the swim-up bar without getting out and walking to the lower half of the pool. Not a big problem, but we didn't get to enjoy the swim-up bar. We had another pool bar across the pool from our room, but again, getting out of the pool and walking to the bar was required. And there were no seats around the bar. They had several swings instead of chairs, but they were spaced wide and we could not really sit together to enjoy the bar. There could have had so much more sitting space. There was a shortage of seats at all the outdoor bars. Also be warned that the grounds around the pool are very slippery when wet. We brought my elderly father for his first trip to the DR and he slipped and fell after getting out of the pool, as well as getting out of the shower. I recommend having your towel and shoes available where you exit the pool, and ask for a non-slip mat for your bathroom. The marble floors are slippery like ice when they get wet. Food was mediocre. We didn't go hungry by any means, but if you are a foodie you may want to look at a different place.
This was our third visit to a Dreams Resort. My spouse and I were married at Dreams La Romana and expected another great experience. Excellent location, beach, pool, entertainment staff, and spa! However, there are too many people constantly trying to sell you something and do not take "No" for an answer.
It started at check-in, we had a very long day of travel because of bad weather in the DC/Baltimore area and we expressed this to the check-in staff. They tried to up-sell their VIP program and once again we told them that we just wanted to get something to eat but they continuously ignored us and kept on selling even though we declined their first three offers. Finally, we reached a point where we were just frustrated and walked away. We ate at the Japanese restaurant and when we exited the restaurant, guess who was there waiting for us?
We did not let this experience deter us went about exploring the property; however, this is where we unfortunately met the vendors who set up tables on the property. These people do not work for the Hotel and were far more aggressive than the VIP guy. These vendors will get in your way forcing you to walk around them. The vendors were there three days of our 7-day vacation. This is not my idea of a relaxing vacation!
On our fifth day, we received a call at 8:00 AM, which awakened our 2-year old as well as my spouse. The call was from the VIP personnel wondering why we did not show up to the breakfast which we allegedly agreed to. At no point during our stay did anyone in our party agree to said breakfast. To the contrary, we agreed that we would never consider entering into any type of membership with this company because of their aggressive sales. In our opinion, it seemed like the management had placed so much pressure on the staff to sell anything and everything that it ruined our experience. For example, we were in front of the Explorer Club one morning and asked an employee about the operating hours of the club and instead of addressing our question, he tried to convince us to go to the VIP breakfast. He stated that he was new and if we agreed to the Breakfast, it would really help him out because it would give him a "point."
The entertainment staff and their activities were great. House keeping staff was very attentive to our needs and great to communicate with. The gentlemen at the "Core Zone" were outstanding. The food was better than we expected. We highly recommend the "Romantic Dinner." Ricardo took great care of us and the lobsters were huge and cooked perfectly. The staff at the restaurants were all great especially those in the World Cafe. The Spa and Spa Staff were terrific to include their very reasonable prices.
We participated in the Safari tour and highly recommend it also. The tour took us to see the "real" Dominican Republic. Everything from the beach all the way to coffee and tobacco farms.
Had it not been for the unwanted and aggressive sales, we would have rated our experience much higher. We were on vacation and did not expect to be constantly harassed by pushy salespeople. Unfortunately, these few bad apples have caused us to decide not to return to this or any other Dreams location.
The grounds and pool was 5 stars. Ocean & beach did have a lot of seaweed but so did all the other Barvaro beach resorts. Rooms were outdated and also smelled musty at times. The bathroom & shower needed repairs & revamping as panels of the ceiling was were failing apart and old tub was very high to step in and out of with a low shower head that was leaking. Dreams Resorts has excellent customer service and decent food options. Good resort for a good price.

50th wedding anniversay for a week next Feb. Can 3 grandkis stay in room with their parents. ages 9,9,5?

Dreams Punta Cana has a maximum occupancy of 4 to a room regardless of age. Your best bet for finding a hotel that can accommodate your party of 5 would be to use the gold Create Your Own Vacation box on the left side of our home page. Simply pick your destination, travel dates, and departure city then choose one room with 2 adults and 3 children, This will bring up all of the hotels available that rooms that can hold 5 people in a single room.
JenCC
The standard room is very small. Double beds. Don't think two adult and three kids would be comfortable

Yes.......just get the right room for your family size!
Susannnnn
They will not be in the same rooms with you, but you can book a Deluxe Family Room and they will stay right next door. You can request by the front desk for the door t that connect the 2 rooms to be opened, they will be glad to do it. We took our 3 kids 12, 6, and 3 and that's what we did. Very nice and friendly resort for families with kids.

You may visit https://www.dreamsresorts.com/drepc/spa-experience.html for Spa information at Dreams Punta Cana. CheapCaribbean.com does not have ratings for spa treatments.

It was $70 for 50 minutes per person but if you talk to a sales guy and get a package they sometimes offer a discount. The resort is awesome I went two years ago and I would love to go back.

They had a special going when my husband and I were there and we both could have had an 80 minute massage for $180.00....$90 each.
janetatchley
They are different prices...depends what you want! But my daughter got a deep tissue and she had a 40.00 off coupon...it was about 65.00! Not bad and the ladies are great! That is a must do!
Susannnnn
Friday specials is $120 for 50 mins. Hotel also provides coupons to use towards massages. Enjoy.
Bxbombers12
A couples massage has no special rate. They will charge $95 for each person and just massage in the same room. You also get a spa voucher at the front desk good for $40 off per person. My wife and I got a couples massage just last week and we paid $110 before gratuity.
Wisdominican
Massages are all different in price, depending on what type of massage you get and for how long.

The beautiful beach at Dreams Punta Cana is swimmable.
DanielleCC
No, you can't swim off the beach at the resorts. The water on the Atlantic Ocean side of the island is not really swimable because of the rough Atlantic waters. I heard that Puerto Plata has better beaches for swimming.
LeslieH
No, there are also no rooms facing the beach. The swim out rooms are just rooms that open to grass.
cherrycolalola
No....Dreams Punta Cana is the third to last resort on the island...The beach and the ocean is a little to rough!

We swam in the ocean right off of the resort. You had to check the area before walking in, but we found plenty of places that were coral free.

You can swim right off the beach. The beach is very nice.

There are some rough areas but there was an area that was roped off where it was mostly sandy. I swam in the ocean a few times and it was great!

According to the resort, the Honeymoon Suites are located on the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd floors in buildings #6-9. If a ground floor room is desired, it can be requested at the time of booking, however room placement is always just a request, and can never be guaranteed.

Resorts can usually make special arrangements for guests to have a private dinner on the beach. There could be an additional charge for that service and you should be able to inquire or set up the arrangements directly with the Concierge.
MariaCC
Yes, you can have dinner on the beach at Dreams Punta Cana.
Susannnnn
Yes, for an extra price. I don't know what it was because we didn't look into it, but we did see them setting up the tables and it looked nice.

Yes you can but it's absolutely not worth it.

wondering what to believe11 answers
We are thinking about visiting dreams puntacana next Jan. But I have read so many different reviews don't know what to believe. Are the rooms that run down? What about the beache not good for swimming? Can't afford perfered room over 4000.00 $ for the two weeks we would be staying. Can anyone tell the real truth about this resort.--
6 years, 82 months ago
cc
The resort is lovely and the rooms are very pretty and nicely appointed. The beach is beautiful and faces the Atlantic so there is a bit more surf than what the Caribbean offers but is very swimmable. If you are looking to travel in jan 2013 I would suggest looking for specials coming out in late summer/early fall and you may find the pricing a little more agreeable.
ccsusan1
The rooms need to be upgraded! We had a major leak in our room. The rooms where also small. The pool is amazing! The beach is kinda dirty.....not as nice as the other end of the island! The ocean is not as blue and is rough. It is located more on the Alantic side not the Carribbean side! No, water sports while we was their!! :(((
The food and staff was excellent!!!!!!
Susannnnn
Hello CC,
The short of it is, NO, they are not run down. I just came back from a weekend vacation there and my room was really nicely kept. One of the members of the wedding I went for did have an issue with his room. The lights in the bathroom did not work, and the AC in his room was broken. However, he did call and got a different room. His new room was in perfect condition. The beach is good for swimming, but there are areas that have a lot of seaweed and some corals/rocks. Other than that if you like the beach this one will not dissapoint. I didn't go in the water myself, but the rest of my family and friends did, and they loved it.
Hope this helps!

The rooms aren't run down, but they're small. You might feel cramped by the end of a 2 week stay. I thought the beach was beautiful - I was there in August and the water was very calm and warm. There are some rocks/coral underfoot, so you have to be a little careful about where you're stepping, but the water was crystal clear and we could always see if it was sand or coral underneath us.

Rooms are neither the greatest or the worst but lack of security is bigger issue. Beware!!!! staff will go in and out of rooms regardless if the do not disturb sign is on door....and yes, they do go through your personal belongings. I had money and items stolen from me on my stay there and management did absolutely nothing. Also spoke to a couple who caught maintenance worker taking pictures of valuable items they had in the room ie...camera, phone, ipad. BE VERY CAREFUL STAYING HERE AND DON'T TAKE POLITENESS OF STAFF FOR GRANTED!!! My suggestion is to stay somewhere else especially because how long your stay is going to be. Hope this helps, be safe!!!

My family and I just go back from Dreams Punta Cana . We were there from 8/25 to 9/01/ 12 and we loved it and had such a great time. We been to Punta Cana before in 2010 at a different resort (Barcelo Family Deluxe) and Dreams is way nicer than then. The beach is a little rough for swimming, but you got the pool which is the biggest from all the resorts in Punta Cana and the rooms are very nice and very clean.
DEMI
My wife and I just returned for the second time and no the rooms are not run down. In fact we left our housekeeping lady a sizable tip before we checked out because she was awesome. You won't see any structural damage either. We requested a specific room this time around and had to wait because they were fixing a light fixture. Maintanance stays on top of the rooms. The beach is not as clear as the pool water but very enjoyable and clean.
Wisdominican
They rooms are not run down at all in my opinion. We absolutely loved our room and the bed was comfortable. The beach was not good for swimming as it was rough when we were there in December but the pool well makes up for the ocean. The beach is beautiful though even though the ocean is rough. We didn't go through preferred club and we didnt miss it at all.
Kathylynn
I would not go back, very disappointed. Small rooms, broken shower, refrigerator etc. I wouldn't go swimming at the beach at this resort. Swimming pool was nice, not happy with food. I would try a different resort.
miserable
We just got back from Dreams and the rooms weren't perfect, but the important stuff is taken care of: the housekeeping staff came by daily to clean it, wipe all the floors down, make beds, and restock towels and fridge, and then came back at night to see if you need anything, give you the activity schedule for the next day, and asked if we wanted the beds turned down for us. It was a bit small for three girls to share, but we weren't spending time in the rooms other than to change for dinner/nighttime or sleep. We did get a chance to see the honeymoon suite after making friends with other guests and it was much bigger; however, if I were to get a chance to return to Dreams with the same group, the only thing I would change would be to ask for the swim out room instead of the garden side.

Does the resort serve US Beer (Bud, Miller, etc)?11 answers
6 years, 80 months ago

Most of the hotels in Punta Cana will offer local beers, not ones found typically in the US. However, it may be best to check with the resort directly.
KristenCC
They have budweiser in select bars. If you are preferred you can get coors bud in the perferred club
vols1123
Only if you pay extra to be in the Preferred Club. We drank Presidente & Presidente Light.
juliajoan
Yes they do. They have all kinds of drinks and I did saw a group of people drinking Budweiser. You can try president also which is great.
DEMI
Nope no US beers. However I assure you Presidente is very tasty!
Wisdominican
No, the only beer available was Presidente. I normally drink beer but this one had a terrible after taste that I couldn't even drink while drunk.
Sally111
I believe they do serve a couple of US Beers but only if you're with the preferred club. They usually serve Presidente beer which is a little weaker than American beer but is still good.
Kathylynn
No...presidente, the island beer only
islandhopper7071
Nope. Just Presidente & Corona.
emmmyj
Only if you do the upgrade. The restaurants and bars we went to only had presidente beer. At the club members bar I got a coors light.

They serve Presidente beer at the bars, but I believe the VIP lounge serves US domestic beers.

How can i get a price list of excursions that are listed on the page and can you book them ahead of time befor arriving?
6 years, 80 months ago
Floridian
You can find a list of all the excursions available if you go through the steps of making a mock reservation. It has all the excursions and the prices and as well as a description of what each excursion entails. These are listed after the flight selections. Yes, it is encouraged to book the excursions ahead of time since the more popular excursions book fast.
KristenCC
yes you can book ahead if you know exactly what you want to do if not you can always book when you get in the resort
calo
It all depends on what kind of excursions you want. They range from $45 and up. If you are using cheapcaribbean, Olympus tours representatives will help you or you can check their site at www.olympus -tours.com.
DEMI
You can book excursions online before you arrive but it's not necessary. We booked all of our tours right at the hotel through Olympus who is associated with Cheap Caribbean. We had no trouble booking the excursions we wanted.
Kathylynn
There are so many sites that offer excursions before you arrive at the resort. I totally recommend purchasing them before hand because it is about half the price. The resort is crazy expensive. I went through a site called living Punta Cana.com. Half of the experience was good. We had one excursion in scape park. This was totally awesome! It was very well organized with transportation and great food also! Everyone there spoke English and I felt safe when we were there. We booked another excursion to Soano island. I guess you get what you pay for. We paid $70 apiece to take a boat out to a freshwater pool in the ocean and take pictures with starfish. Then they took us to Sonoma island where we had a buffet. We then took a catamaran back. The whole thing was a horrible experience. We had a great time doing everything and I have some great pictures but somebody could've died easily. Nobody really spoke English and we were transferred to two different buses before we arrived to board the boat. When you get to where the boats are, there are 1000 people trying to sell you things, put a monkey on your arm for five dollars to take a picture. Or perhaps take a picture with an iguana but you have to pay the guy five dollars to use your own camera or phone. We took the picture with the monkey and I gave them a dollar and he followed me for a couple minutes trying to get more money. We told him no. Then we get on this boat without any life preservers. Nobody really tells us what's going on and we get to this freshwater pool where they stop. They tell you to come on and they give you snorkeling gear were you snorkel for about 45 minutes and then you get back on the boat. They are serving rum and Coke the whole time and people are walking around and getting on the top of the boat while it's running. Nobody really cared that this girl almost fell off five times. We get to a spot where they have starfish and took some great pictures. They try to sell them for you for a lot of money but we paid about $20 for 30 pictures. When you get to Sonoma island you wait about two hours for a couple thousand other people to show up there. Then they have a buffet where the food that is supposed to be cold is warm and the food that is supposed to be hot is room temperature. It was OK but nobody told you anything. I don't even know how we got back. We saw one of the drivers of the boats and just got on a boat. Then these girls came on and started dancing and pulling everyone up to dance and get tips from them and sell them these hats for $10. It was really uncomfortable to tell you the truth. We had about 20 people on the boat and half of them were totally wasted. Once again people almost falling off the boat and nobody caring about it. It's took two hours to get home to the resort and it should've taken one. We stopped many times to drop other people off at other resorts and change buses. It was absolutely crazy. Plus we were starving because we hadn't eaten in over six hours and there was no offer of food or stop to get any. I totally recommend to not just pay a cheap amount to anybody. Go on scapepark.com and book it through them. They might be A little more money but if you have kids and you don't want them to get hurt, Pay a little more. You will be able to have a better time because you will be relaxed knowing that everyone is safe.I hope this helps!

Not aware of an airport shuttle, but you can schedule a shuttle with cheapCaribbean.

The hotel is approximately 1 hour from the airport and I don't believe the airport supplies a shuttle. We had transportation through Olympus and they were wonderful. They were right at the gate when we entered and ushered us right to our transportation.

The resort is about an hour from the airport, depending on the time of day. I made my transfer arrangements through Cheapcaribbean.com so I didn't have to worry about finding my way to the resort. I definitely wouldn't take a taxi from the airport.
AbbyC
No shuttle from the airport unless your purchase it and the ride is at least an hour. A highway is being worked on but who knows when it will be ready.

Hotel is an hour from the airport and unless you pay for a shuttle it is not included. Cost us $70 each way for taxi service.

Whew the ride was like an hour away.. No joke.. 70.00 for the trip its posted. But it was worth it once you get to the resort.

The resort doesn't offer a shuttle but we used Olympus Tours for $40 round trip to/from the airport. It's a shared ride but we only had one other stop on our way TO the resort and two stops when we were heading home. According to the information we received directly from Dreams Punta Cana, this resort has one of the largest free-form swimming pools in the Dominican Republic. Dreams Punta Cana pool stretches from the hotel lobby to the beach. There is a separate area for children, Jacuzzi and an entertainment area, overlooking the ocean. Dreams Punta Cana Resort & Spa is set on a pristine beach with lush tropical vegetation, a coral reef and turquoise waters that stretch to the horizon. As resort amenities such as food options are subject to change, we do suggest contacting the resort directly as they would be best to assist. are there umbrellas or trees on the beach for sun protection?

While there is vibrant vegetation throughout the resort and along the beach, the resort staff may be able to accommodate you with an additional sun umbrella upon request. We recommend calling our beach experts at 1.800.915.2322 for further information and assistance..
SamCC
Yes - there are the little palm huts that you can lay under and a few beach beds (they hold up to 4 to 6 people and are elevated and covered) as well.
GigiGal
Yes, both. There are some "huts" that you can put a couple chairs on. There are also lots of palm trees (although I'm unsure how much shade they provide). You get chairs on a "first come first serve" basis, so whether or not you'll snag chairs under a hut is hit and miss. But we didn't have much trouble finding a chair or two we could drag to some shade each day.
BMill
Yes, get there early, Preferred club area also has covered beds.
MtotheB
Yes, The back area of the beach has many what I called Tiki Tables, Palm covered umbrellas with a small table with lounge chairs on either side. I did not see any portable umbrellas on the beach though

There are Umbrellas, trees, and cabanas for shade. They offered lots of shaded spots.

is there a dress code on the resort3 answers
4 years, 60 months ago
ms eh
The dress code varies for the different restaurants. For the World Café, Seaside Grill and Oceana it is casual, Bermudas, long shorts or capri pants. No sleeveless shirts for men. No bathing suits allowed. Ladies must wear a bathing suit wrap or cover-up. For Himitsu, Portofino, and El Patio it is casual elegance. Long pants and short-sleeved shirt with collar required; flip-flops and shorts are not allowed.
LizCC
There are a couple of restaurants where you need to wear nicer clothes - otherwise, people wore everything from beachwear (swimsuits were covered up) to casual clothes in the majority of the dining areas.
GigiGal
Most of the dining places were "casual", which means pretty much anything is OK within reason. However, I was surprised that this meant no sleeveless shirts for men. I had to go back to the room and change shirts for my son the first day at the World Cafe because he had on a sleeveless shirt.
I believe the "Casual Elegant" restaurant does require long pants for men (something we don't usually bring for my husband and son when we travel).

The Deluxe Family room5 answers
It states that it is two deluxe rooms connected. The picture shows a living room. SO is it two deluxe rooms with a connecting living room? We are traveling with a teen and were going to get two rooms, but this would work much better. PLEASE let me know so that I can book. Thanks
4 years, 59 months ago
FL
This room category is two deluxe rooms that are connected however it does not have a living room.
LizCC
No,I made reservations 6 months before we went l
last week and reserved the same thing. Upon our arrival we had one room for 5 people. 5 hours later we did have 2 rooms, one in bldg 4 and the other in bldg 9. Took 2 days to finally get in same bldg.
Susie08
We got preferred deluxe room with connecting room. Well worth the money we have two guys 13 and 20. They stayed in one room while we stayed in the other. A tv was in each of the rooms. No living room just a walk out patio. Hope this helps.
Thumper116
A deluxe family room consists of one room with a king bed, and the other room with 2 double beds. A door joins the rooms. I was under the impression from the pictures that the room would have a separate living area but it is basically just 2 rooms joined together by a door. Their might be a Deluxe Family Room that is an upgrade as part of a different package but we did not see anything like that or inquire. We were fine with what we had, as all we really did in the rooms was sleep.
polishpower77
It is two hotel rooms connected, no living room. Each room had a small couch. One room had a king size bed, and the other room had 2 queen beds.

We were just there from 7/25-8/1 and the upgrade for the preferred club was $60.00 per day so we decided not to do it. The desk clerk did say that the price can fluctuate depending on how booked the hotel is. It was totally booked the week we were there so $60.00/day was the going rate.
GiFi
We had a Deluxe Family Room for my wife and 2 daughters. We planned on doing preferred but when we arrived they stated since we had adjoining rooms (the Deluxe Family) it would be $60 a day X 2 rooms, so for use it would have been $120 a day for 5 days. Equaling $600. We decided to wait until the next day to decide and in reality did not see the need to upgrade for that price that next day or any other day during our trip.

Has anyone been to Punta Cana in August? If so what was the weather like?6 answers
4 years, 57 months ago
Kasi
Temperatures are usually in the 80's during August. Although rain is common, there is still lots of sunshine most every day!
BethCC
Super Hot
MEPtravels
I was there in August 2 years ago. We had a few rainy days.
Just returned from Punta Cana now and the weather was perfect. High 80's during the day and low 70's at night.
Only one night did it lightly rain, short lived.
crazymama96
We just returned from PC final week of July and it was very warm and muggy. It starts out at about 78 degrees F in the morning and gets warm pretty quickly once the sun is up. Officially, they say it doesn't get above 90 but I would estimate 90-95F with the Heat Index. The humidity from the plants and clouds makes it a little warmer but the ocean air cools it off a little bit. It is also warmer towards the city and where there are concrete buildings. Also, not having air conditioning everywhere makes it appears warmer
VoyAlaPlaya
We were there in late July. The weather was fine, sunny, great! There were a few (two?) nighttime rain showers which lasted minutes and then the stars came out again. One night we were eating outside at Trattoria and they moved everyone inside in a matter of seconds to empty tables kept for just that purpose I guess! The humidity was thick some days, and other days were breezier and seemed drier. We worried about July being officially "hurricane season" but luckily didn't encounter anything even resembling a storm.
MillieBanana
We traveled Aug 2-6. TS Bertha formed 2 days before our trip. The only bad weather was during the first night while we slept. Otherwise, it was typical Caribbean summer weather. Storms/showers last about 20 minutes. The weather had no negative effect on our trip. We came home sunkissed! We snorkeled, paddle boarded, endless pool and beach time. I would risk the travel in Aug again :)

The pools are not heated, however, if you are looking for a hot water experience, the property offers a jacuzzi. For any further questions, please call us at 1.800.915.2322.
SamCC
I would assume they are, but they are not overly heated if you know what I mean. Like a Jacuzzi. Maybe just the sun heats them, they are a "jump right in" type pool. No worries.
polishpower77
not sure if they are heated but it was not cold...it was just right!
MichiVal
Not sure if they are manually heated or from the sun but they are like bath water.
Darnics
I don't think there was a need for heated pools. Water temperature was fine, very refreshing. There were a lot of areas shaded by palm tree's to escape the sun.
johnMc
I was there beginning of December. The pools are not heated but beyond that first entry the temperature is perfect
Mike666
Typically the pools would not be power heated unless it is a jacuzzi since they are located in a year round tropical environment.

Yes, there is a cocktail waitress at the casino and the drinks are free. The casino is EXTREMELY small. 1 poker table and 3 black jack tables. No Texas Holdem. Poker is slighted to the dealer...she has to have an AK or better in order to pay out on your hand, regardless of what you have.
