Lots of sun and fun

We had a great time. All our desires were met. We asked for first floor close to everything and it was perfect. Flights went smooth also. Have been several times and are never disappointed

Don't go here! mediocre hotel, full of salespeople

Sunscape overall is a nicely laid out resort, the way the rooms and pools are structured is well thought out from the design side. See below Pros and Cons Pros: Clean - rooms are very tidy. The resort was always clean, including all the bathrooms. Hostesses at the restaurants were really the best part. Coffee spot - Coco's was the highlight of the food at the resort Cons: Salespeople will bother you from the moment you walk in up to the day before you get on the plane!! - the vacation club salespeople will follow you around in the hotel, they will call you in the morning when you are supposed to be enjoying your late morning. They will hunt you down until you just give up and cave. Then after you've told that one person to go away. One of their colleagues will pursue you until you want to find ways to avoid all eye contact. - the excursions salespeople - also will pursue you - the shops' salespeople will solicit you as you walk by the buffet - the beach salespeople will come by your chair every 5 minutes. They will reach out and touch you even if you say no! There is no escape from the salespeople. NONE! The food is barely good. The buffet has the best food. The restaurants are mediocre. with the sole exception of the soups which are well-made broth. The pastry, bread, and desserts are so bad that I threw almost all of them out. The pastry chef needs to go back to school. For example, the chocolate truffles were a ball of dark brown dough with a weird glaze and no chocolate flavor. Staff - the staff is friendly and polite but they do not have follow-through. I asked for blankets and it took 3 calls and 45 minutes to actually get the blankets. The airconditioning broke in my room and it took 3 calls and a visit to the lobby to have someone come take a look. The sheets were damp from the dryer in my room and it took 3 calls to have them actually changed with dry sheets. Politeness can achieve a lot, but this resort does not understand how to follow through or complete a request.

Not many healthy food choices. Poor WIFI

My 5th time in DR, first time in Sunscape Puerto Plata. Stayed 5 nights. Room was nice and clean with a garden view (building 12) and steps from the beach. AC was working well. Beach is nice, but too many people offering souvenirs, massage, pedicure etc. To my surprise no fresh juices or any other healthy drinks at the resort. Orange juice tasted like a diluted Fanta, fruit punch was even worse, iced tea too sweet, pineapple juice more like a sweet drink, not even the juice from concentrate. Coffee was okay. French fries were dry and tasted like bad commercial oil. Mashed plantain was worse than in other resorts with pieces of plantain. Pizza was okay. Meats were hard my partner said ( I am a vegetarian). From fresh fruits they had pineapple, watermelon ( not good quality), sour passion fruit, apples, papaya and melon ( twice). Only 3 flavors of ice cream at lunch or dinner. Strawberry and Rom raisin tasted like chemical. Caramel and chocolate were okay. No mango, pistachio or other interesting flavors like in other resorts. I DIDN’T go to restaurants for dinner, so can’t say anything about foods there. Staff was nice and friendly. Not overly engaging. Disco is at 11 pm. No dancing before that time. Show is from 8 to 10. After 10pm couple of staff members dance with like two guests by the stage for may be 10 min. WiFi is only in the main lobby and weak signal too. It’s a 3 star resort. I guess I shouldn’t have expected more.

What's to Love

Feeling like royalty during the red carpet check-in while you nosh on frosty welcome treats.

Stress-busting spa with a delicious menu of pampering, you-spoiling treatments.

The golden sands of Playa Dorada that are calling your name.

The indoor theatre that offers up some booty-shaking nighttime entertainment. Woot!

Tons of activities for the kiddos, which means more chillaxin' time for you.

The Teleferico Cable Car - the only funicular in the Caribbean.

What We'd Change

A la carte dining can fill up at night, so you might have to wait a bit. Good thing you can grab a cocktail or two while you wait to be served.

Why You Should Go

Just 20 minutes from the airport so getting to the resort is a breeze.

27 Damajagua Cascades are near - 27 natural river pools and waterfalls - and there's may be an extra cost, but it's so worth it.

The Sun Club, a family-centric program that features upgraded everything.

A golf course designed by the famous Robert Trent Jones surrounds the resort. Easy to get to when it's your tee time.

The famous Malecon beach strip is full of restaurants/bars, local vendors and Fort San Felipe to visit.

You can hike and bike through lush, tropical terrain - you might even see an exotic bird or two.
