Amazing Vacation!

Sunscape is an absolutely beautiful resort and almost immediately you are greeted by staff who call you family! Most of the staff were warm, friendly, and very professional. We loved the fact that beach was so clean and within a few feet from our room. We booked the Sun Club which is the VIP!! For that you get a private room area with a private pool, and access to the Sun Club family breakfast and lunch area. I cannot day of that part was worth it or not because all of the liquor is watered down no matter where you are in the resort. The only way you’re going to get a vacay buzz is to buy a bottle of your own Brugal and spike your drinks. The food was okay. They have quite a variety but it’s still a lot of the same things and not too many options for vegetarians like veggie burgers, etc. My husband was okay with the food I wasn’t all that impressed but because staff went out of their way to accommodate me I still say you’ll have a great experience. The accommodations were nice, clean and comfortable. Really beautiful grounds and pools. Our room was right next to the main lobby bar area so it was always loud and hard to sleep at night. I wanted to change rooms the hubby did not and it was his birthday so we stayed in that room. Speaking of which there was champagne and strawberries waiting for us when I told them it was my hubby’s birthday! That was complementary. We also got discount coupons for the spa. Let me tell you one thing, the spa alone was worth the whole entire trip!!! OMG! We had a couples massage and it was the way massage I’ve ever had in my entire life! Clara was my masseuse she did deep tissue and Denise did deep tissue on the hubby. It was the hubby’s first massage and he wasn’t in heaven!!! The spa services is a total spa experience and not just a massage and go. Worth every single penny! We frequented the beach nearly every day. This is a beach property, it just doesn’t have ocean views, but the beach is just a short walk down a path. It’s absolutely stunning! Most folks were just lounging in the pools in the VIP area but I have a pool near me so I didn’t pay to come all the way to swim in a pool. That beach was everything! It was windy a couple days but the water is warm and perfect and the beach wasn’t baking hot. There was plenty of breeze and shaded areas for the VIP guests. There are peddlers selling things but tell them no and they leave and keep it moving. Service at the hotel is pretty good. My husband was floored that we had to ask to have our room cleaned and brought fresh towels two times before they did it without asking. He complained and they sent someone right away. We didn’t like that and we tipped the girl so I don’t know what that was all about. We didn’t let that ruin our trip though. Two thighs to be wanted about and that is to NOT buy trinkets from the hotel they’re far over priced and my ring and bracelet broke the next day! It was wire wrapped but the Larimar was real so it was inexpensive but I still expected it to last longer than a day or two. If you take a tour off grounds never buy anything unless you absolutely want it and never take the first offer. The natives are very deceptive and think all Americans are rich. The price we paid for cigars, another couple paid double for less. The cigars being sold on the resort are banana leaves and we went to a real cigar favorite and trust me they’re far superior and the difference can be told immediately. The so called tour off grounds was provided by a guy named Juan. He wasn’t affiliated with Sunscape, and it really was a tour he just took us to his buddies stores so we could spend money. I told him about himself and asked him if he got a cut! He said no but I don’t believe him. I wanted to see the city of Puerto Plata but he just wanted us to spend money at his friends stores. I ended that early. This is no reflection on Sunscape I just want to warn tourists before they waste time. I did get some real jewelry out of it so for that it was okay. Overall it was a wonderful vacation and for the money you can’t beat it!

Average experience

The resort did not have internet in the rooms ( even if willing to pay extra) and WiFi by the pool was slow and poor. Service was good however restaurant buffet was very poor for vegetarians - repetitive beans and rice and snacks bar limited to fries. People were nice, spa experience was good the resort needs to be spruced up a little, somewhat dated. So when all considered do not consider value for money
