Great value but thats it

For the price this was a great resort but there a few things you need to know before booking. - You WILL be pressured into joining their time share VIP service from the second you walk in - They only have 1 type of beer on tap (presidente) - They have very few liquors, mostly rums and liqueurs (well) - Buffet food and snack places are terrible and that is an understatement. If you do brave the buffet show up right when they open so the food isnt dried out - They claim to be a new resort, not true they actually just purchased an old resort - Beach is loaded with people trying to sell you things - Only 1-3 restaurants are actually open a day although they promote more - They do not have as many bars and restaurants as they claim. For example, Baracuda, Starlight, Castaways and Barefoot Grille are all the exact same place. They just go by a different name depending on the time of day. On a positive note the larger restaurants (non buffet) are good. The pool is really nice. The entertainment for adults and kids is really good. I went with a friend and we ate and drank enough to pay for itself 10x over so its worth it for a 3-5 day getaway, anymore time and you will be sick of it.

Pathetic

Our vacation so far... No transportation from the airport...Uber was $150, which they just informed me it's now $165 for the trip. This morning woken up by yelling worker guys at 630 in room next to us. Remind you we're in the Sun Club so it's supposed to be elite. Ermm. Change our room finally and put us into a lesser room with no amenities. Which some are important for Cole's sake.. they tried to convince me it was the same room... Nope, totally different area. I requested a manager and they wouldn't acknowledge that request so I lost it.... Just got a call we're moving again to a suite back into the Sunclub. Plus I get to meet the person I've been dealing with on the phone and a manager. 2 days into our vacation and still haven't unpacked nor relaxed bc I've been dealing with this nonsense. Jist of the story... Stay away from Puerto Plata. Read the reviews and this same stuff happens alot here bc they allow so many locals into the resort for the $. Update. The new room, our 3rd room the ac is bad. It's a solid 80 degrees and they keep telling me it's fine. I've asked for a manager over 25 times and told there's no manager. Yet on the one call I made I was put on hold for a manager. I went to the front desk after all of this and after I was hung up on. Boy security was at the front desk fast. The language barrier is real here, they have alot of trouble with English. They don't seem to like Americans much and I was forewarned of this before coming. Security checked my ac unit in the room and said it's okay. I was told tomorrow we'll get another room and that's what we were told today. We've packed and unpacked so many times we can't find any of our things. We can't unpack because we're moving again tomorrow. This place is atrocious, spend your money elsewhere.

Poor Quality

My Husband and I went to this hotel for our one year anniversary. We were very excited, as we booked a Sun Club VIP room. They also had a lot of restaurant options that I was excited to try. Sadly, our stay was not at all what we expected. To start off, the king size bed in our room was very hard. The bed sunk in the middle causing us to constantly roll towards the middle. I finally lifted the bed skirting and discovered they had two twin set box springs holding the king size mattress, which is what would cause that problem. They also only provide sheets on the bed. I have to sleep with a blanket and requested one from the office. They sent us a tan fleece blanket. The bathroom window is made out of wood with openings that are not insulated, so I ensured we kept the bathroom door closed, to keep in the AC. The shower is only half enclosed, which I guess is a common style in the area for showers, but not what I would anticipate in our hotel room. They also had a list of VIP upgrades, which ended up being more like line fillers for amenity options. For example, an upgraded mini bar, upon request, ended up being more of the same drinks that were already in our fridge, which is local beer, budweiser, soda and juices. When I asked for the pillow menu, she said well how many pillows do you want... apparently the pillow menu meant, you can have as many of the normal pillows you have in your room, as you want. The WIFI works, but is not strong enough for any video streaming. For the restaurants, they do not make reservations and do not have wrist bands. That being said, if you go to the buffet it is usually full of people and the service is slow. We tried going to the Gauchos restaurant the first night and ended up going elsewhere, as the wait would be for an hour or more. I was excited about the asian restaurant, but it turned out to be a sad impersonation of the food. The place is also completely full of locals, with day passes. I'm not sure how they can possibly monitor each person, to ensure they are supposed to be there, without a wristband. The have a VIP space on the beach; however, let local people selling services and items come right in and harass people to buy from them. That being said, the bar drinks were good, and about 50% of the staff were very nice. The rest were not, and were very tip driven. Perhaps, if we didn't spend so much money and stayed for a whole week with this hotel, my review might have been better. However, I strongly recommend, if you are still searching for a hotel please go elsewhere.

Thoughts on sunscape

Overall the place was very nice and clean. Staff members were very polite and helpful. There are a handful of the members that only speak Spanish. The food wasn't all that great at all. Not very flavorful at all. There is always something going on for entertainment.
