Very Fun But Food Could be Better

This resort was really fun, there were a lot of things to do. The problem was that the activities weren’t really posted with locations so we didn’t know where anything was. It was very European and not a lot of people spoke English, workers and guests but that was fine since I knew a little bit of Spanish. The exursions were amazing, would definitely recommend going to Saona. The dining opitions were okay but the quality of the food could have been better as well as the dining service. One thing that I also found strange was that there was no swim up bar which was kind of a bummer. But all in all it was a really fun vacation, I would return to this part of Dominican Republic but probably not back to this resort because of the food and service towards English speaking guests.

Not a lot of kids activity. Out of 4 pools only one was reasonably quite. Way too loud music. All day long. The main buffet restaurant is so loud you can’t have a normal conversation. But okay food.

too crowded

This was our second visit to the DR, first visit to Viva Wyndham Dominicus Palace. We have vacationed at other all inclusive resorts and among all of them I'd place Viva Wyndham Dominicus Palace in the bottom 25%. I think the main problem is that it is just too crowded. The difficulty in maintaining cleanliness and good service becomes exponential with this many people. So, food - I think the kitchens work their butts off and do a good job. Cleanliness at the buffets is a significant problem - little kids touching everything with their hands, 70 year old men putting the mouths of their used water bottles directly in contact with the water dispenser, you name it. Again - with this many people it's incredibly difficult to stay on top of hygiene problems like this. Same hygiene problem is at play at the bars where patrons can serve themselves water or other nonalcoholic beverages. The pools didn't look dirty but, again, with this many people... And the hot tubs were barely warmer than the swimming pools. The room was fine and we got daily maid service, although the bathroom wasn't cleaned daily and the sheets weren't changed while the towels were changed daily. Because it is so packed with humanity, so many things require reservations and in many cases reservations aren't available for the day you request them. And the customer services people are not at all happy to help. The beaches were clean, even though the Europeans left cigarette butts all over the sand. My son got sick the 3rd day we were there and lost 2 days to a stomach bug. Others in our group got more mild versions of it. Overall it wasn't a bad trip, but I wouldn't go back.

Hotel Description

Viva Wyndham Dominicus Palace: Dive into the Big Top

Prepare yourself for some hardcore rest and relaxation, and make your way to the all-inclusive Viva Dominicus Palace in La Romana, located on the southeastern coast of the Dominican Republic. This 83,000-sq-ft resort rests on the island's most pristine, white-sand beach facing the verdant islands of Saona and Catalina.

Should diving be your bag, whether you need a beginner's lesson in the pool or were born with gills, grab a four-night, all-inclusive dive package and explore the Dominican Republic, marine-mammal style. You'll find a wonderland beneath the shimmering indigo surf, as well as horse-eye jacks, sea turtles, spotted eagle rays and brain coral. Wreck divers won't be able to resist the St. George, a 240-ft shipwreck resting 135 ft. below the surface of the water, just off the shore of Viva Dominicus Palace.

Land activities more your style? Grab a catamaran and explore the untouched perfection of Saona or Catalina. Or take some all inclusive dance lessons with that special someone. Looking for something unique? Wander over to Viva Wyndham Dominicus Palace's sister resort, next door (all restaurants and drinks here a part of your all inclusive package as well), and take a trapeze lesson. The professional, trapeze-training team offers lessons for adults in the afternoon, while the mornings are reserved for children. And if you think you won't get bragging rights for your newfound skills, a circus-themed show (every Friday) allows you to show off your big-top act to an awestruck public.

While you're basking in all that circus glory, why not do it poolside, lounging in a chair, rum punch in hand? Now that you've worked up a good appetite, visit the La Yuca Buffet for some international cuisine, including grilled local fish, with a side of exotic, fresh fruit.

Sleeping too good this morning to get out of your king-sized bed? Pull back the curtains and gaze out at the surf from your Superior Ocean Front room, while Viva Wyndham Dominicus Palace serves you a continental breakfast, room-service style.
