BEWARE GO ELSEWERE

CHECK IN: Were to begin.... my fiance and I travel every year, this trip may change our tradition. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion and I'm sure many people have enjoyed their stay here...but here's our story. We arrived at the resort around 12pm. Check in was not until 3 (which we knew) no big deal. To our surprise we were told we would only have to wait one hour. So far so good... we went to the snack bar and immediately realized the food was going to be a miss. After an hour and a half we went back to check in. A rude manager was now at the desk whom said "check in is not till 3" after explaining whom we talked to already and what they said he refused to see if the room was ready. Long story short 45 min later the main guy comes back, calls, and guess what...our room had been ready. THE ROOM: The room was nice, lots of amenities but nothing special. Then we realized the bed was harder than a rock. Literally I need a spinal alignment after sleeping on it. Then we discovered..... STAINS ALL OVER THE SHEETS AND PILLOWS. Red stains, white stains, idk what they were but we called immediately. Our room wasnt cleaned or restocked u till around 4pm daily and was usually missing half the stuff we needed. coffee, water, etc. FOOD: The Buffett food was hit or miss. Some things were good. Most were nasty and inedible. (No I'm not rich or stuck up...McDonald's would have been better). As for the resturants we arrived on monday... couldn't get a reservation until thursday...and we were supposed to leave sat morning. So dont expect to eat at all the resturants. People: The staff apart from a few exceptions were all rude, unprofessional, money begging, u know what's. From the resort to excursions we could not go 5 min without being asked for money. (I always tip, just not when its demanded with an attitude.) BEACH: beautiful, nice sand, clean water. Very nice. Overall.... plenty more to complain about. Hated the place. We literally left a day early because we could not stand being there. Please go somewhere else. This was not a vacation. No relaxing. I need a vacation from this vacation.

Totally restful vacation!!!

This was our third time visiting Luxury Bahia Principe Bougainville-we love it. The resort is lovely and well cared for. The pools are beautiful and clean. The beach is very clean. The water is calm and peaceful. There are plenty of lounge chairs and umbrellas to use. The two pools on opposite sides of the resort give you the option to have a quiet relaxing time or a more upbeat party atmosphere. Both have swim up bars with quick service and a large variety of drinks. The buffet restaurants offer a wide variety of foods, although the quality also varies. We have never been without enough to eat. We especially love the nachos at lunch at the restaurant by the beach. There is also always a variety of fresh fruit and desserts. The wait time to get a drink can be a bit long and we often have to stop someone to request service for beverages including coffee at breakfast or a drink at lunch. Our purpose for visiting is to get a couple of days of pure relaxation and we always enjoy ourselves. We rise in the morning and have breakfast and go to the quiet pool for a couple of hours of reading, swimming, and drinks at the bar. When that gets boring we visit the party pool to see what is going on. There is usually some type of poolside activity. This visit they had aerobics at the pool and paella poolside. The activity board listed other activities but not at the times we were there. We then have lunch at the buffet by the beach and/or go to the beach. We may stay there or return to the quiet pool depending on what we feel like doing. Usually around 5:30 we start to head back to the room to get ready for dinner. We had reservations at an a la carte restaurant each of our 4 nights of vacation. The first night we went to the Rodizio Brazillian Steakhouse. This is the same building as the lunch buffer, open air seating near the beach. Starters was a buffet salad bar. Then they came around with some sides and the servers came with swords of meat. There was a buffet assortment for dessert. It was delicious. The second evening we went to Takura, the Asian restaurant. They started you with some sushi then tempura, you chose a soup, entree, and dessert. It was not the best Japanese food I have had but my husband and I enjoyed our dinner. The third night we went to the signature restaurant Don Pablo The decor is lovely and the service is elevated for a more upscale experience. We ordered soup, starters and entree. The menu has not changed in the three years we have been there. I ordered the lamb with couscous and I was a little disappointed that the lamb was not as good as the other dinners I had there but overall the dinner experience was lovely. For dessert we had crepes suzette made table side. Our final dinner was at le Gourmet on the sister resort. It was also an upscale dining experience and was very good for a beach resort. A new thing that the restaurants did this year was offer specialty welcome drinks. These were a very nice touch. After dinner we would usually go to the bar in the lobby where there was live entertainment or to the sister resort for a show. The entertainment staff in our opinion is not that entertaining. Definitely not as good as on a cruise. But if is a small resort so we don’t expect much. The bar service is very good and we enjoy watching all the people. The room is lovely and cleaned daily with turn down service and chocolates sometimes. We enjoy our relaxing vacations and will be returning again next year.

Solid middle-class retreat for a week

2 persons 6 days stay in the beginning of November. All-inclusive adults-only. The resort was half-full. The beach-front suites are superb (but few). The view, the comfort, the balconies... Room service could be more prompt. Sound insulation between the suites is bad. Poor choice of English-speaking TV-channels. Advertised "free WiFi" in these suites was free only for 15 min per login, very annoying but adequate for a message chat. Its normal use cost $30 per week, but the quality was good (although one day it was completely down). Some short electrical outbreaks take place. The fridge/minibar contains 2 cans of light local beer and 3 tiny (50g) bottles of vodka, rom and whiskey + some chips and soft drinks (Pepsi, not Coca) Restoked (theoretically) daily. The more frequent restoking for an extra charge. Shopping is limited to essential stuff. The free bars are good and many, especially at the pool sites. The one at the sea beach is frustratingly super-slow. All drinks are free except konjac and similar expensive stuff. Importantly, there are 2 big fresh-water pools (very clean); one of them provides music and activities, and another is super-quiet - you choose. The customers are nice - a mix of middle class from over the globe. The service people are very friendly and fun, their English is adequate. They do not insist on tips but appreciate them. However, many of them lack professional training - a horde of people always frantically doing something around you without much effect. Apparently, this is not applicable to gardeners - the grounds are very clean, very scenic and joy to walk around. The water in the sea is milky, nothing to see underwater. The kayaking (also free) was fun. The sandy beach is very clean, very well taken care of and very comfortable. Breakfast and lunch in the buffets are superb. Enormous choice of dishes and cuisines, all fresh and great variety and quality. Lobsters, pineapples and mangoes deserve a special good mentioning. Dining options are a mixed bag - apparently not a forte of this resort. Fun fact - I was never early enough to breakfast to squeeze even just a drop of "Bloody Mary" from a huge 3-gallon jar, which was served complementary every morning (along with Martini, champagne etc.) :)

Birthday Celebartion

The resort is great, happy employees, friendly associates. food variations and nice and delicious dinners . The fact that transportation is Not include on the package is a downside. Also, I was very, but super upset because CheapCarribean change my itinerary from NY to Santo Domingo with out notified me, I was at the airport when I tried to print my tickets and I couldn't , I went to the from desk of the airline and that's when they informed me that the agency had made that change. I called such agency and the phone was ringing until -after 20 minutes- they answered the phone and explained my problem. They put me on hold again, the plane was about to leave and for coincidence, a couple didn't showed up, and the airline let us aboard the plane. Another downside, the room had roaches, not just one, but a few.
