Great first Carribean vacation!

I have never been to an all inclusive resort. We went in the off season which was really nice. Not as many people there. This was a first. So with that it mind this is my impression. The resort: The resort was beautiful and had a lot of birds and beautiful lanscaping. The room was adequate and since we didn't spend much time inside, I really just needed a place to sleep. I never visited the pool other than a scuba introduction, but it looked amazing. The room was a little dated, some of the finish work and mortar was aged (cracked, missing, etc) and there was water that leaked out of the A/C vent at night onto the floor. Everything else in the room was fine. Dining Options: The only downside is that I had to have a reservation made everynight unless I wanted to eat at the buffet, which I did twice. Food was good overall with a few standouts: the Lamb at the Colonial was great and the buffet was better than average. Plenty of variety. Beach: the beach was absolutely amazing! The water is beautiful and calmer on the La Romana side than the Atlantic side - Punta Cana. If you a party person, Punta Cana probably has more to offer. I wanted to relax and not have a ton of partying going on and loud club music. I was not disappointed. La Romana was great and peaceful. Plenty of excursions available. Overall, I would go again.

Not what i expected

If this is your first resort some might be in heaven but being in others and based on the photos I was fooled. The room looked old, the comfortable and decorative pillows were stained and dirty ( placed them in a corner of the room throughout my stay) when we arrived. The food was blah nothing special about it. The staff service was half and half as some really cared about their job and made me and my family feel welcome. The only memorable thing about it is the pool and beach. Everything else did not impress me much. Oh, the entertainment staff, Mayra was superb.

What's to Love

It's an all-inclusive, everything-you-want escape haven.

Chillaxing with a cocktail at the epic Lighthouse Bar that's right on the beach.

Destressing with a beachfront massage, Turkish bath & other goodies at the spa.

The sand castle building, mini-golf, horseshoes and more for the kiddos.

What We'd Change

The food at this resort is wonderful, but you may not be the only one feasting. The mosquitoes can really go to town here, so be sure to pack repellent.

Why You Should Go

It's about an hour and a half drive from the Santo Domingo airport. Nap time.

At the Aquarium, nearby, you can see aahmazing coral.

Don't miss the snorkeling/scuba at Dressel Divers Center - there's a fee, but worth it.

If you need an extra twin bed for a teen or little one, just ask - you can get one.
