Great Get Away

The only complaint I have is that the liquor is not true top shelf, and some of the better brands are extra. The food was good service was great. We left just ahead of hurricane Irma and was shocked when we were told no liquor was being served from Tuesday afternoon until after the storm.

Not quite the honeymoon we had in mind

Where to begin? How about the good... the service staff were excellent. Very kind, happy, and eager to please. The beach was beautiful, the first day. Soana island is a must but do yourself a favor and book a trip with a local, not the resort. It's about $100 cheaper per person. The king size bed was pretty comfortable but the room was very small. The hibachi grill was the best food we had there. Everything else was very blah. Now for the rest. We arrived Sunday to an hour wait before getting our room. During this time we were approached by a kind young gentleman that to us, confusingly convinced us to attend what we thought was a meet and greet the following morning. It was supposed to be an hour and a half with a free gift. It ended up being 2 1/2 hours of salesman trying to get us to buy timeshares with the resort. They pressured and pressured us until we finally received our free gift with an angry dismissal because we were not interested. So now it's lunch on our first day there and we get food at the world cafe. The food is luke warm and tasteless, with few healthy options. This was our lunch nearly every day. The first night we wanted to eat in the seaside grill but it was rented out by a wedding party. The second night we wanted to eat there again but it was closed and then when decided on the French restaurant but it was rented out by the wedding party again. So we settled for the canned spaghetti in the Italian restaurant. We were unfortunate enough to have hurricane Irma looming in the distance as she approached the island. The resort closed EVERYTHING down Tuesday night at 6 pm, except for the world cafe. For the next 2 1/2 days we were on lockdown in the resort, while the other resorts were still allowed on the beach the first day, as well as having access to alcohol, while we watched in disbelief. They had us quarantined 400 yards from the beach for 2 days before finally allowing us to venture on the beach again and access the amenities we had paid for. Anytime we asked a staff member for information regarding our inprisonment, we received 20 different answers. There was no evacuation plan in place, just caution tape. Not even additional water was provided. No activities were in place to keep our minds at ease as the hurricane approached. Well, no hurricane ever came, thank goodness. It then took them another day to allow us to resume back to normal. I could go on and on but I'm sure you're tired of reading this. I'd recommend going somewhere else for sure.

great family vacation

Two grandparents, two grandsons age 7 and 9 and their parents. We all loved it. The resort is new and immaculate. It is geared to family groups and they do a good job. Our grandsons were not interested in the Explorer's Club. But they did the beach, the pools, kayaking and paddleboats....the last 2 with parents. The service is fabulous. Danny in the buffet is probably the best waiter we have ever had in 20 allinclusive stays over the years. He added value to our stay. Melany on the beach was attentive, friendly and almost became part of the family. Hilariio Peralta, the resident manager, was more of a presence than any other hotel manager I have ever seen. The buffet was great for breakfast and lunch. Dinner at any of the restaurants was hit and miss. The kids loved the Hibachi and it was quite good. We had one disaster and one success at the Seaside Grill. I don'y know why they think a good steak is less than a half inch thick. Make it smaller and thicker. Italian and French were mediocre. The entertainment was great with the circus night being the best. All in all a great family vacation. Next time Grandparents go to Secrets.
