Envision this: you are lounging at the resort pool with a view of endless blue - there is no discernible division between sea and sky. But you can't keep your eyes off the water. How many colors of blue are there? This conundrum beckons you and you decide you've got to go beneath the surface, below this heavenly azure to see what's underneath. Luckily, there's a world-renowned Dive House and the second largest coral reef in the world at your feet.

Honeymoon 2019
We just got back from our honeymoon at Secrets Aura Cozumel and we can not say enough good things about this place. We booked on cheap Caribbean for the first time and everything went very smoothly. Upon our arrival we were greeted and walked to the preferred lobby, they took our bags so we didn’t have to worry about them. While we checked in they had champagne for us. Check in was quick and easy. The resort was very clean. Our room was HUGE with the most beautiful view of the preferred pool and ocean. Everyday our sheets were changed, our mini fridge was stocked and we received a paper every night telling us activities for the next day which was really cool. One night out AC was working because it froze, but within minutes a maintenance man was in and fixed it real quick and we had no more issues. We ate at all but one of the restaurants and the food was good! We obviously weren’t expecting to be dining at 5 star restaurants each night.. but for the price we paid we enjoyed it all, and the service everywhere was fantastic. Room service was very good also, and always arrived within a half hour. We loved Marcos at Oceana. The bartenders were so personable and fun and they made great drinks! Armando and Milly at the barracuda bar were some of our favorites as well as Gilberto serving us on the beach. We used the resorts snorkel gear everyday for a couple hours, the snorkeling is awesome, especially under the pier. We booked all excursions via AMSTAR which had employees in the lobby everyday to help book whatever you’d like to do. They were very helpful. Arbey and Jorge on the entertainment team were AMAZING! The events were fun, and they did everything they could to get people involved and make sure they were having fun. We loved Cisco Dragon (the band), casino night, the foam party and the fire show! Everytime you passed an employee you were greeted with a smile and an “hola” and they were always willing to teach us Spanish! Overall we had the best time here and are so sad to be home, but we will definitely be back! And we will for sure book with cheap Caribbean again as the whole process from booking,, transportation and checking in at the resort, it was the easiest experience.
Great resort and excellent value. Generally very happy with everything,
2 issues that were negative:
We booked as a party of four with 2 swim-up rooms. The 2 rooms initially allocated were very far apart from each other. We complained and from the second night were moved so that our rooms were separated only by one other room. The room that we vacated was frankly quite dark and smelt as though it had not been used for some time, so we were glad to leave it. The 2 rooms that we then had, however, were lovely and light and in a great location. It was just a pity that the resort did not allocate us adjacent rooms up front as we booked many months ago in a single booking.
The drinks were all free so that was obviously very good. However, we would have liked to order a bottle of wine now and then from the wine list. The problem was that the wine prices were craziily high. 3 price categories: under $100, $100-$500 and over $500. A California wine that sells for about $20 was listed at $100. I have no problem paying a "normal" restaurant premium but this was ridiculous.
Customer service was really good during our stay, but cold during check-in. Also, check-in did not provide upgrades that were requested via the booking agent. Check-in agent stated that there was no capacity for the upgrades, when there was obvious capacity during our stay.
The beach was nice and maintained, as was the facility overall. However, I definitely would not categorize as a high-end resort, as they claim. It's an OK 3.8 star resort. I liked their sister resort next door just as much, and it's categorized as the economy version.
Snorkeling was not good off the beach, so you need to take a tour (boat) to experience the beautiful snorkeling available in Cozumel.
Food was decent, but small portions. Drinks were weak, so order doubles, and the quality of the alcohol was suspect.
We did like that it was adults only resort.
Daily/nightly entertainment was cheap.

What is the Premium Beer there,, And do they have other beer available? Also, is this a 100% non-smoking Resort?5 answers
6 years, 85 months ago
Northern Indiana
It would be best checking directly with the resort as the international and domestic premium beer brands may vary. Most resorts have designated areas in which smoking is permitted. For answers to any specific questions, please feel free to contact the resort directly at 1-800-413-3886.
MariaCC
They had Sol and Dos X. Smoking is allowed.
ninatally
Its not non-smoking at all. Many people were smoking. Just not inside the restaurants. No premium beer that I saw, most beers were Dos Equis XX and Sol beer. Local brews. Not alot of premium alcohol either. You have to ask. And repeat often. Ask for your drink to be strong if you are looking to catch a buzz.
IrishMom15
Smoking is allowed on the beach and at the skybar and on your balcony. The only beer I saw was dos equis. Plenty of premium liquor.

don,t remember lol

Dos Equis and Tecate were the available beers. Smoking is allowed anywhere on the resort.

We do not have any photos of the tennis courts. Please contact the hotel directly for their activities program.

Is there any nightlife in the area?5 answers
6 years, 84 months ago
Indianapolis
Cozumel doesn't have much nightlife.
KellyCC
They had activities every night at the resort so we never left. There are a few places in town though like Carlos and Charley's.
ninatally
Not really. You can go to the Sabor side and it's a little more lively (karoke, DJ, dancing) than the Sky Bar, or take a taxi into town, but not a lot of nightlife to speak of
IrishMom15
Carlos and Charlies is within walking distance, right down the beach.
Jmlong
Yes Skybar at Aura has some and Desires at Sunscape Sabor next door does also. We didn't leave the resort for nightlife as it was sufficient for us, but you could take a taxi to town if desired.

Is ground transportation (from airport in Cancun to resort in Cozumel) included in this deal?3 answers
6 years, 84 months ago
Texas Hill Country
Please be advised that flights are usually booked into the Cozumel Airport. The resort is located 20 minutes away from Cozumel International Airport (CZM). We do offer the option of purchasing the roundtrip airport transfer service with your vacation package during the booking process.
MariaCC
We flew into Cozumel and purchased ground transportation through Cheap Caribbean when we booked our trip. It was very nice because we didn't have to worry about any of the sales people hounding us at the airport.
ninatally
No, I would try to book a transport with Olympic Tours. They were fantastic. Once you clear customs, DO NOT stop for anyone looking to "direct" you to the proper person to look for your tour bus. Look for a representative outside the doors wearing an BRIGHT ORANGE shirt and clearly marked Olympic Tours. Cost is $40 round trip to resort/airport

Does resort have facilities on premise, what about equipment storage if brought...cost per tank
6 years, 84 months ago
diver Dave
The resort does have a full-service on-site dive operator and Dive Shop. For pricing, we recommend checking directly with the resort for the most accurate information. The telephone number to contact Secrets Resorts directly is 1-866-GOSECRETS (437-3273).
MariaCC
They have excursions that will pick you up right at the dock on the Secrets property. It's an extra cost (it's not part of the all-inclusive). For storage, can't you leave the equipment in your room?
Jmlong
yes they do however we used dive martin and they were great - pick up at the dock, etc - we rinsed gear in our over-sized walk-in shower and placed on veranda
purdue
I wouldn't recommend using the hotel dive shop. The boats were crowded with people. I would recommend using one of the other dive shops that will pick you up at the hotel pier and store your equipment. We used Scuba Tony and they were GREAT!
LarryPdx
No idea about costs as we are not divers, but the dive shop is right there at the south end of the resort, the dive boat leaves right from the pier, and we saw several other guests with their own gear.

Nitronick
Most of the larger fish are under the dock including some angelfish, and we saw a small stingray there too. We drifted north all the way to the end of the sabor resort and saw a trunkfish, lots of young versions of snapper, parrot fish, sergeant majors and other small fish as well as a brief encounter with a barracuda. A very tiny amount of coral and a couple anemones.
koala
Snorkeling is ok but the beaches full of thick seaweed. Honestly the over all beach is very poor and not well maintained there are 3 other resorts near buy that are much nicer .
Vaca123
Yes, you can get free snorkel gear from the watersports stand at the resort. There are lots of fish that hang out under the pier and around the area, but no coral and they are not super colorful tropical looking fish. There is a 2x daily snorkeling tour that takes you to 3 reefs (30 mins to snorkel at each), which I think is about $35pp. I heard it was really good snorkeling but we didn't go ourselves.

Will my previous booking still be for Secrets Aura even though it was booked when Sabor and Secrets were one resort?2 answers
I booked a room with a slide a few months ago when Secrets Aura and Sabor Cozumel were under the management; now I see that the resort has split into two different resorts. My booking through Cheap Caribbean says it is for Sabor Cozumel, but I paid for a room that is now part of Secrets Aura. I am very concerned about where I will be staying especially since I was not notified of this change. Please let me know if I will be staying at Secrets Aura or Sabor Cozumel. Thanks!

I just got back from my vacation there. The rooms that have the swim out slides are in the Secrets part of the resort, although this section used to be a part of Sabor. We stayed in that section you are talking about, checked in at Secrets Aura, but that's also what we booked on CheapCaribbean (we booked Secrets Aura). It probably doesn't matter though. They are still owned by the same company and we could eat/drink at restaurants/bars at both Secrets and Sabor. To my knowledge the only difference is Secrets does not allow children.

Aura rooms compared to "old Sabor"?3 answers
We have stayed at the Sabor exclusive for the past three years. We are looking to possibly "upgrade" this year and stay at the Aura, however, we notice that the swim up pool view under Aura, is actually the old Sabor section. How do I assure that I am booking in the new building closest to the ocean? We toured this building last year and they all had floor to ceiling glass facing the beach/lazy river. First floor was swim up,second floor was defiantly all ocean view and third floor had the upstairs with lap pool and sun deck.
6 years, 83 months ago
Ukiah,Ca
We would be able to request this area of the resort for you if you would like. However, room requests are based upon availability at the time of check in and not guaranteed. To ensure you were in the section you mentioned, you would need to book a room in that area of the resort.
KristenCC
The renovated rooms are the ocean view swim out rooms. The junior swim out rooms are the old Sabor buildings.
LilNater
When booking you have to tell them you want "ocean view". All of the Aura rooms are ocean view and in the newer end or ocean side of the building.
We booked an ocean view swim up suite and loved it. The Sabor is all the back side of the resort, Aura ocean side.

Are pants required for men at dinner (evening meal)?7 answers
Do any of the restaurants require pants for men at the evening meal?
6 years, 83 months ago
Dale
Yes, which kinda sucks. You're on vacation relaxing, not dressing for a ball. With that said, MANY people look like they are going to the prom. You can get by with Nice jeans and women can wear capris,
bratty1
We recommend bringing a pair of pants (and close toed shoes) for dinner; attire will be business/nice casual.
LaurenCC
Yes, pants are required at 2 of the 3 restaurants. And no open toed (flip flop) shoes.
IrishMom15
Two of them do and they are the best restaurants on the resort. Plan to bring at least a couple pairs.
Jmlong
They say for the men it's "casual elegance" which means pants. However the entire time we were there (first week in April) men were coming and going in pants and shorts.
They didn't seem to have a problem either way.
AnnieTulsa
The website says that some of them require pants for men. However, I saw men in nicer shorts at every restaurant. Though, generally people were fairly dressed up for dinner, so you would probably feel out of place in shorts.
theburts
Yes, most of the dinner restaurants require men to have long pants.
Travelgirl777
It is stated that men should wear long pants to a couple of the restaurants, but this was not always enforced.

We didn't do any shore diving other than snorkeling.

I enjoyed the snorkeling and saw a lot of beautiful fish since there is coral reef on the shore. No strong current or waves.
Travelgirl777
Current is not strong at all. Lots of schools fish under the dock including turtles, sting rays, lobsters, and a few barricudas. Snorkel equipment is available free at the dive shop as well. I actually thought the diving here was as good as the reef we explored.

There were some rocks to walk past when first entering the water but easy to do or you can walk down the pier and jump in or climb down the ladder making it easy to swim or snorkle.

Is it worth the $ to upgrade to preferred club?5 answers
booking this resort today, wondering which room category to choose. Is it worth it to upgade?
4 years, 57 months ago
LandonO
Depends on your budget and the type of traveler/expectations. If you want the bells and whistles, it may be worth it to upgrade to Preferred Club.
CCGreg
We had a great room (1117) that was not in preferred but an ocean view swim up. Not much different than preferred and didn't really feel we missed out by not going preferred.
KMS68
yes room I,m doing swim up now
debo1
I did not upgrade but spoke to people who had & they said it was not worth it
Pattyoz
I didn't do the Preferred Club and did not feel like I missed out on anything. There was never any time where I noticed there was something for Preferred Club members versus non preferred, but maybe that was just because it was hidden on purpose. Would not upgrade if/when I go back.

We booked the swim-up pool view room and we had a shower only, no tub. However, the shower was huge, the water pressure was wondeful and I have no complaints at all.

Are these rooms guaranteed to be 1st floor walkout?

Monkey
Not all of these rooms are on the ground floor. We are able to request a ground floor room. However, requests are never guaranteed.
CaitlinCC
no
debo1
No, but they are not but you can request one.
Pattyoz
Yes, it is. I selected an ocean view room at the ground level. The patio is private with furniture. I could step into the pool (about one foot deep first and the about five foot deep within a few step), swim to the main area of the pool where I could get out to the beach or the bar/restaurants.
Dec09
No, we booked one of those rooms and was on the 3rd floor

Adults or Couples?5 answers
Is this resort good for non-couple singles? My friend and I (both middle-aged women) are looking for a place to go that isn't family or kids, and isn't all couples.
4 years, 54 months ago
NJGirl
The Secrets brand is mostly going to draw couples and 18+ year old families.
CCGreg
This resort is so spread out, and adults only, I think it would be great place for anyone . I did see several "women groups" while there.
Belmel1
It seemed to be mostly couples and large groups of people. I didn't notice too many singles but then again I didn't go too any of the bars at night. That is where you would probably notice it the most.
Indianasunworshipper58
Definitely. Lots of singles, all younger than us but gregarious and fun. Honeymoon couples were obvious but not overwhelming.
Liddy
This resort is adults only. It is suitable for all over 21

Not sure what a secrets box is, but it's 24/7 room service with no extra charge. Just the standard metal hot plate covers.

Are Airport transfers to/from Cozumel-Aura-Secrets included in package ?5 answers
Or do you just buy RT transfers at the Airport ?
4 years, 52 months ago
MN
They would be an additional amount. If you need help booking, please call and speak to one of our Beachologists at 1-800-915-2322.
TimCC
Yes they are included
Belmel1
We paid $8.25 per person for a group of 6 at the airport, saved us $30 each way per couple.
birdman24
No, ours wasn't included. We just get taxi at airport. We paid $45 for prepaid but you can walk just off airport - 100 yards - and then get taxi for under $20
DebG
No they are not included. You can book through Amstar on Secrets website or get a taxi for around $25 I think. Taxis do not come right up to the arrival area so you have to walk out and find one.

Is the hotel's beach shore sandy, smooth, or rocky?5 answers
3 years, 42 months ago
juju
The beach is a beautiful, white sand beach, which is not rocky. Just sandy and beautiful.
JeannieCC
Sandy
Sunshine12344412
beach is sandy, past waterline is very rocky, bring watershoes
goodtime52
Very rocky,if you're planning to go in,bring in some watershoes
Vinnnny
Mostly sandy but as you enter the water its pretty uneven (but smooth) rock. The best thing that I found was once I got into 1-2 foot deep water was to lay down and begin swimming to avoid slipping on the rocks.

Resort Deposit5 answers
Other travel sites state there is a 2500 MXN peso (roughly $130.00) deposit required upon arrival...considering this is not a cheap resort to start off with, is this true? The resort listing says nothing of the sort. If it does indeed require this deposit, is this refundable? My husband and I have been to a handful of AI's that did not require any deposits (all fees, taxes, deposits were included in the price of the stay). Thanks in advance!
3 years, 42 months ago
Kentucky
Resorts do often put a hold on your credit card at the time of check-in for incidentals, which is refundable so long as there is nothing additional that would need to be charged to your card (i.e, damages, ordering items that cost additional, etc.). The amount, however, does vary per resort and would need to be discussed with them directly.
JeannieCC
We did not have to pay any deposit
Sunshine12344412
No deposit is required

We did not have to give a deposit at this resort.

Deal of the day room5 answers
My husband and I are coming to this resort on Tuesday and we booked a DOD room...I'm a little concerned we will get some hole in the wall room as most of the complaints on this resort are in regards to the rooms. Has anyone else booked the DOD room, and what was your experience like?
3 years, 41 months ago
hlmartin89
The Deal of the Day room isn't a specific room category, it just means you'll be placed in the lead-in/lowest room category available. Generally this means you'd be placed in one of the pool view rooms for this resort.
JeannieCC
We are here now. What does "DOD" stand for?
JimTrunks
My husband and I had a DOD room on our third visit (just came home from our fourth time). It was the BEST room we've had yet! They gave us a nice ocean view room with an amazing bathroom with a huge tub and shower. Not a bad room at the resort!!!
DMinTN
I can't imagine any of the rooms being a joke in the wall. Ours was awesome!! Very clean and comfortable.
TripnLea
I booked DOD as did 3 other couples who we were traveling with. Everyone was happy with their room. While we were not near each other it worked out well because we used entire resort complex instead of staying in one area. We did not ask to be near each other when we arrived though.
Summerperson1
We were very satisfied with our room

The world-class spa with Seaweed Wraps, invigorating hydrotherapy and exotic indigenous treatments. Swoon.
A pier to wander out on and get hypnotized by the point where the blue water meets the azure horizon.
What We'd Change
Cozumel doesn't have as many activities as Cancun. After all, it is an island. But Secrets always has a lot of adult-only activities to keep you entertained.
Why You Should Go
You're just 20 minutes away from the airport so your rockin' vacay will start before you know it.
You're just 15 minutes away from downtown Cozumel. Just a $15 (U.S. dollars) to cab it there.
You can upgrade to Preferred Club which means better rooms, private swimming pool, and much more.
The mysteriously cool Chicen Itza and Coba Ruins are a short hop away. (Ooo-ahhh).
Lit tennis courts. Woot!
You can improve your game on an 18-hole golf course designed by the great Jack Nicklaus.
The largest beachfront in Cozumel is out back.
You can try you hand at kayaking, Hobie cats and water volleyball - don't be shy. Dive in!
Bring your aqua shoes - the beach is like finely ground seashells.
Most restaurants require men to wear long pants and no flip flops.
Probably no going shirtless or tank tops, unless you're a male Abercrombie model.
