Everything was beautiful. The only thing we had a problem with is that you couldn’t make reservation for dinner. You have to go stand on line before 6:00 to be able to have dinner. It was insane we paid for it already yet it was difficult to have dinner. They only served from 6to 8.

Nice resort in a gorgeus area!

We stayed at the RIU Guanacasts not the RIU Palace which is right next door. Not sure what the difference is except price. The beach: The beach is unbelievably beautiful. It has trees on it and is different in that you don't try to seek out a palapa, you seek tree shade. The sand is darker and has a nice feeling to it. The water was very clear and the beach never got too wavy. My negative is that the beach is completely overrun with salespersons hawking their wares. You are constantly bombarded by them as they come by, one after another. They are even worse than on Mexican beaches. Thankfully, they are not in the resort itself. The beach sunsets are unsurpassed. Check in: The check in staff are wonderful and helpful. However, they are not efficient and long lines form when more than a few people arrive at the same time. Checking in and out at odd times is recommended. Dining: The buffet food is a little above par from other places I have been. However, the 4 "ala carte" restaurants are first come. first serve. We were able to squeeze into 2 of them during the week. I didn't feel like standing in a line for an hour after spending the day having fun. Drinks: We were hesitant after the scare provided when visitors to Costa Rica being poisoned by tainted alcohol (CNN report from July 2019). I checked and none of the tainted brands were served by this resort. Here, they serve "premium" drinks without additional charge. This was nice. All rooms have gin, rum, vodka and tequila dispensers in them. Never seen this before. Not the best booze but a nice touch. Service: The service was great. Really friendly staff that seemed to enjoy their jobs. Entertainment: Just like any other resort you have ever been too. No better, no worse. It was fun. Rooms: Ah, air conditioning. Your room is one of the very few places to find that sweet relief of A/C. Rooms were not huge but comfortable. We had 2 rooms and both were kept clean during the week. Grounds: Very well kept and lovely inside and out. Water sports: About average. Although it was difficult to get a kayak or paddle board on short notice as they seem to not have enough. Reserve them the day before you want to use them. No small sail boats which would have been nice. Things to do in the area: Plenty of area excursions. The resort seems isolated but you can have plenty to do. If you rent a car, pay the extra $10 for the English speaking GPS because NONE of the roads are marked and you will get lost. We loved Diamante Eco Park next to the resort. It has a mile long superman style zipline and great natural and cultural experiences. We also visited Tamarindo and found it lovely. Great surfing and great food. Overall: I would recommend the RIU Guanacaste. We did have a great time. We have visited a lot of All Inclusive resorts and tend to try new ones rather than go back to ones we have already experienced. If I got to change anything about this resort it would be that you could reserve dining choices like other resorts and make more watersports available. Having said all of that, Costa Rica is beautiful!!! This resort was a great base if you are more into exploring that merely hanging out at the resort itself.

Not all Bad......Needs some renovations, but ok

The hotel was adequate...Nice Grounds, decent pool( a lot of bees though), entertainment was just ok( Friday’s Neon party was the best),the food was alright depending on what option you chose. I didn’t like everything they were serving, but there were some Good choices....The beach was what I expected, black sand.....but surprisingly enough you were able to snorkel from the beach, and see little fishes swimming by.....I mean i’m Not going to say harsh things about the property, even though the rooms are a little outdated. The staff was pleasant, very polite.........I would still recommend the hotel, it was a fun time overall.....

What's to Love

The all-inclusiveness: the food, the drinks, the everything.

No reservations needed at any of the restaurants.

Three sparkling pools, surrounded by lush greens keep you refreshed and cool. Pool side bars quench your thirst.

The liquor dispenser in the room lets you craft your own cocktail (soda water and mixers are stocked in the fridge.)

The beach isn't crowded and the tropical background adds to its peacefulness. Find your perch.

The stunner of a view with green lush landscapes and rolling mountains off in the distance - breathtaking.

Riu knows how to put on a show and the live entertainment day and night won't disappoint.

Some great rocks nearby for snorkeling - pack your own gear if you want to make sure you get a mask.

What We'd Change

The walk from the lobby to the pool doesn't offer much shade. Luckily, the pool's swim-up bar offers quick relief with ice-cold beer.

Why You Should Go

Riu is not far from the airport in Liberia - a quick 20 minutes to your tropical oasis.

A great spot for adventure-seeking tourists with excursions like Rincon Nature Park and the Safari Park nearby.

The beachy tan sands are sometimes rocky under the water - just grab shoes to wear & you'll be set.

Laid-back Costa Rican resort with lots to experience in the area - unique foliage and wild life add to the charm.

Much-needed spa time lets you get uber relaxed - massages, steam baths, facials in tropical paradise.

Activities galore - tennis, ping pong, beach volleyball, windsurfing, kayaks, paddle boards. Game on.
