Ready to go back

This was my first time traveling internationally with my children (ages 7 and 10) that was not on a cruise ship. I was incredibly impressed with not only the activities within the resort, but also those available via tours. They had a wonderful time playing on the beach and swimming/boogie boarding on the water. The pool offered a great break from the sun. The beds were not the most comfortable, but you adjusted over time, and the pillows are lacking. If you are a pillow snob, bring your own :) The room was clean and had a great view - it is worth paying extra for the ocean view!! The food was okay. There was a large selection to chose from, but the items remained consistent for breakfast, lunch and dinner. The restaurant, front desk and support staff were incredibly friendly and willing to work with you to make the best trip possible. I would definitely recommend this place if you have children or are okay with staying some place that is not 5 - star. The other guests were incredibly friendly and were more than okay having children run around and be children. Not discourteous children, but children with energy :) .

Awesome vacation

This trip and resort was amazing. If I could say one thing, I think the resort should spend a little more time and man power in the evening/very early morning hours cleaning the pools. It seemed that it was a never ending task to keep debris out of the pools. But overall, a 5 star rating. Also the Italian restaurant was a 1. Not good. But I did not go to Costa Rica for Italian food! Can't wait to return. See u next year.

Beautiful grounds, great food, friendly staff

Our family of 4 spent 6 days here in March and had a wonderful time. We were in the family room and our balcony overlooked trees with monkeys hopping around. The room location was quiet and the beds were comfortable. My kids complained about the double bed but dealt with it. The food choices were suburb. Our favorite restaurant was the steak house but they were all very good. Breakfast was amazing and we loved all of the choices. The staff members were very friendly, attentive, and helpful. The bars and drinks were fantastic. We couldn’t say mire positive things about this place. No complaints at all!

Beautiful country and resort!

This was my third time at a RIU (first time at Guanacaste) and it did not disappoint. I would recommend staying here! The staff was friendly and attentive. The grounds were beautifully maintained and everything was very clean. The beds were very very firm. The rooms were otherwise comfortable and also very clean. We always spend our time at the pool, which was large and never had trouble finding a lounge chair. Highlight was a jungle themed pool party with a dj, decorations, and dancers! The beach was pretty but I never saw many people in the water. There are multiple dinner restaurant options like most all-inclusives. It’s first-come first-served, so it’s unlikely to get in to the specialty ones if you’re not waiting in line by 5:45. The main buffet is always an option and is fine. I actually had my best meal there. Costa Rica is a beautiful destination with gorgeous and diverse landscapes and wildlife. I couldn’t recommend it more! We saw howler monkeys from our balcony and there’s a sea turtle nursery on the beach between Guanacaste and the Palace. We happened to be there when some hatched and watched their journey into the ocean. You can also find white face monkeys by walking down the beach, toward the Monkeys Bar Restaurant.

What's to Love

The all-inclusiveness: the food, the drinks, the everything.

No reservations needed at any of the restaurants.

Three sparkling pools, surrounded by lush greens keep you refreshed and cool. Pool side bars quench your thirst.

The liquor dispenser in the room lets you craft your own cocktail (soda water and mixers are stocked in the fridge.)

The beach isn't crowded and the tropical background adds to its peacefulness. Find your perch.

The stunner of a view with green lush landscapes and rolling mountains off in the distance - breathtaking.

Riu knows how to put on a show and the live entertainment day and night won't disappoint.

Some great rocks nearby for snorkeling - pack your own gear if you want to make sure you get a mask.

What We'd Change

The walk from the lobby to the pool doesn't offer much shade. Luckily, the pool's swim-up bar offers quick relief with ice-cold beer.

Why You Should Go

Riu is not far from the airport in Liberia - a quick 20 minutes to your tropical oasis.

A great spot for adventure-seeking tourists with excursions like Rincon Nature Park and the Safari Park nearby.

The beachy tan sands are sometimes rocky under the water - just grab shoes to wear & you'll be set.

Laid-back Costa Rican resort with lots to experience in the area - unique foliage and wild life add to the charm.

Much-needed spa time lets you get uber relaxed - massages, steam baths, facials in tropical paradise.

Activities galore - tennis, ping pong, beach volleyball, windsurfing, kayaks, paddle boards. Game on.
