Fun Resort, Terrible Food

Number one: I have a strong stomach. I eat food that's been left out all night, I've never had food poisoning, and when coworkers have a cold/flu, I'm usually fine. That said, the buffet made my friend and I physically ill everytime we ate. Just like clock work, about 10-20 minutes into the meal we would have stomach aches and get diarrhea. I've never been sick from resort food before. We never got sick eating the local food outside the resort. The staff was great, no complaints there.

Nice trip

Overall the trip was nice. The beach and pool were amazing with great shade spots and a well kept beach. Drinks were readily available and the excuraions available through the hotel were also good. The dining options were ok, but sometimes you have to wait for a spot in the specialty restaurants. The buffet was always available and the food was decent. The rooms are adequate, but the pillows were hard and the AC in my room kept feezing up and not working properly. Really wish they had room service at the resort. Overall a good family trip. Look forward to visiting again.

Riu, Guanacaste

We had a great time, I would definitely go back to Costa Rica. The resort was beautiful and the staff was very friendly and accommodating. The only thing I would change would be to not go during a holiday (Christmas) and maybe do an adults only resort. The excursions were all a lot of fun and very organized. Overall, a Fantastic trip, thank you Cheap Caribbean!

Good place for family vacation

I took my family for vacation in Costa Rica and we stayed at Riu Guanacaste. It is great all inclusive resort with great beach, great location, very good food and great customer service but there are few things at this resort I would like to point out. This resort is outdated and guests must use keys and not the card keys to enter the rooms. I constantly had issues with my keys and the front desk helped me to enter the room few times. The plumbing is outdated as well and old. Also there are $20 for losing the keys. Even it is a private beach the locals constantly harassing guest trying to sell local merchandise, massage, trips, etc. and security doesn’t do anything about it. One day all these locals guys turned on loud music, opened bottle of Johnnie Walker and had party right there in front of guests and hotel security. The beach has lifeguard tower but during entire stay I haven’t seen anyone there. The beach chairs are very old and in very poor condition. I just hope that the hotel management will do something to improve guests’ experience.

What's to Love

The all-inclusiveness: the food, the drinks, the everything.

No reservations needed at any of the restaurants.

Three sparkling pools, surrounded by lush greens keep you refreshed and cool. Pool side bars quench your thirst.

The liquor dispenser in the room lets you craft your own cocktail (soda water and mixers are stocked in the fridge.)

The beach isn't crowded and the tropical background adds to its peacefulness. Find your perch.

The stunner of a view with green lush landscapes and rolling mountains off in the distance - breathtaking.

Riu knows how to put on a show and the live entertainment day and night won't disappoint.

Some great rocks nearby for snorkeling - pack your own gear if you want to make sure you get a mask.

What We'd Change

The walk from the lobby to the pool doesn't offer much shade. Luckily, the pool's swim-up bar offers quick relief with ice-cold beer.

Why You Should Go

Riu is not far from the airport in Liberia - a quick 20 minutes to your tropical oasis.

A great spot for adventure-seeking tourists with excursions like Rincon Nature Park and the Safari Park nearby.

The beachy tan sands are sometimes rocky under the water - just grab shoes to wear & you'll be set.

Laid-back Costa Rican resort with lots to experience in the area - unique foliage and wild life add to the charm.

Much-needed spa time lets you get uber relaxed - massages, steam baths, facials in tropical paradise.

Activities galore - tennis, ping pong, beach volleyball, windsurfing, kayaks, paddle boards. Game on.
