Girls Trip to Costa Rica 4/5 Stars

Pros: beautiful resort, swim up bar was our favorite place! The staff is very kind and respectful. The resort beach is very beautiful and spacious. The rooms were very clean. WiFi in the rooms, and throughout majority of the resort. Food was very average in the buffet areas. Breakfast being the best meal of the day (omelette station is great!). For dinner the resort has 4 restaurants, not every one is open every night. They have a no reservation, first come first serve policy, until the restaurant is full and then there’s no more seating for the rest of the night. If the restaurant is full, you’ll have to eat at the resort buffet for dinner. You have to line up outside the restaurant about 30-45 mins before opening to be seated or take a buzzer for a later time. Cons: the resort is about 3 hours away from all of the rain forest and volcano, and nature-like excursions. There’s no room service, and after dinner, the 24hr sports bar only has nacho chips and cheese, and hotdogs and cheese sandwiches to be cooked in a microwave. They didn’t look too appetizing to be honest. Overall, 4 out of 5 stars. We had a great time nonetheless!

Overall we loved our stay at Riu Guanacaste! Positives: -Right on the beach! - Plenty of bars and restaurants - Several excursions to choose from - open space , most rooms having balconies and you can interact with wildlife ( hearing several monkeys from our room)! - comfortable bed - large rooms Negatives: - you MUST be at the al a carte Restaurants at 6 (or earlier) or you will be shut out( NO RESERVATIONS). It took us 3 tries! (Keep in mind several excursions will get you back after 6) - first day we had an ant invasion in our room (ick) but no problem after we complained - just be aware, the hotel is majority outside so bees and birds are around your food and drinks( not horrible just be vigilant) In summary, great trip for the price! We did all our excursions via Amstar, booking the day after we arrived, it was lovely. Sad we have to leave when there is still so much to do

Lacking the "WOW" factor

I feel it was fairly priced, but was disappointed in our room assignment and comfort of the room. We came as a group and only one of paid for an I can view, but we were told they were all an ocean view. The room we purchased extra for, which was the ocean view was on the 2nd floor and a plain view of the trees with a slight window to see the ocean. We booked for a double room and got a king bed, the beds were rock hard, and the room smelled really bad. I was not impressed with the pool entrainment. Every other day the waterfall to pool was working, the music would play every once in awhile with American music and then be off for awhile. The restaurants we're not all open all open. I felt that was poor considering there were only. 4 to choose from. The big disappointment was the pool being hot and merry which caused me to break out with blisters and rash, just on my back side. Doctors said it could be bacterial or fungal. Which it could have been a better experience.

The hotel its self is absolutely beautiful. The lobby , the decor, the ambiance is amazing. It could offer more activities and entertainment throughout the day at different areas of the resort. This Riu Hotel was nice however I have been to other Riu Hotels where more is offered. The bartenders and employees around the resort could differently be more friendly. The food at the buffet was ok could of used more seasoning and flavor. However the Tucan Restaurant was amazing! the food was incredible and the service great. The pool at the swim up bar was very hot by the middle of the day. The entire pool needs to be cleaned out every single night. It was slippery and slimy. You could actually see the dirt around the pool walls and floor. the stools are slippery since they are not cleaned. I was definitely disappointed especially since everything I read was actually true. One evening when we left the pool the smell of urine reeked all over. It was awful Everything I read before going to hotel was actually true. I will probably never go to this resort again. Sorry!

What's to Love

The all-inclusiveness: the food, the drinks, the everything.

No reservations needed at any of the restaurants.

Three sparkling pools, surrounded by lush greens keep you refreshed and cool. Pool side bars quench your thirst.

The liquor dispenser in the room lets you craft your own cocktail (soda water and mixers are stocked in the fridge.)

The beach isn't crowded and the tropical background adds to its peacefulness. Find your perch.

The stunner of a view with green lush landscapes and rolling mountains off in the distance - breathtaking.

Riu knows how to put on a show and the live entertainment day and night won't disappoint.

Some great rocks nearby for snorkeling - pack your own gear if you want to make sure you get a mask.

What We'd Change

The walk from the lobby to the pool doesn't offer much shade. Luckily, the pool's swim-up bar offers quick relief with ice-cold beer.

Why You Should Go

Riu is not far from the airport in Liberia - a quick 20 minutes to your tropical oasis.

A great spot for adventure-seeking tourists with excursions like Rincon Nature Park and the Safari Park nearby.

The beachy tan sands are sometimes rocky under the water - just grab shoes to wear & you'll be set.

Laid-back Costa Rican resort with lots to experience in the area - unique foliage and wild life add to the charm.

Much-needed spa time lets you get uber relaxed - massages, steam baths, facials in tropical paradise.

Activities galore - tennis, ping pong, beach volleyball, windsurfing, kayaks, paddle boards. Game on.
