Overall Good Experience

Overall, our experience at Riu Palace was great. Below are the best things about the RIU and a few things I would like to see them improve on. PROS: The beach was absolutely gorgeous as well as the pool area. Plenty of places to lounge and there was no need to get to the pool or beach early to “reserve spots.” The staff was very friendly and accommodating, we have nothing negative to say about them!! The food at the Japanese restaurant and the fusion restaurant was the best food we had all week! CONS: Food at the Buffett was okay so we opted for the other restaurant options. However, there are no reservations for the restaurants for dinner at night so if you don’t stand and wait in line by 6pm for 630 sitting you may be stuck at the buffet for the night. From beginning to end, our room smelled of mold, but we also didn’t have a working fan in the bathroom (I’m not sure if this was just in our room or every room was like this). Overall, it didn’t matter all too much though because the only time we spent in there for us when we slept.

Just okay

We enjoyed our stay because of the company we were with. However, I would not recommend this resort. (This will be long but worth a read) The staff was all very nice and we had no complaints there. Pools are warm and I liked the overlook at the swim up bar over the ocean. The beach is lovely with soft sand and clear water. . However, we were almost hit several times near the beach by out of control jet ski's, which is obviously extremely dangerous. We also weren't happy that several children wandered over and parents with babies, onto our supposedly adults only beach. They do not have a store for essentials which is very much needed. We used the store across the street and had to buy a $18 bottle of cheap, old, grainy, watery suntan lotion. The food is not great. The buffet was fine for what it was, but the menu never changed. After a couple days it got old. As others have mentioned, the restaurants are impossible to get into on the weekend. I didn't really care to wait in an hour+ line to maybe be seated. The restaurants need more seating, more dinner times, and more options. (Who really wants to eat at the Indian restaurant?) I did enjoy the upscale American and steakhouse. The drinks were mediocre, and they didn't even have some of the drink options on the menu (bartenders didn't even know what a certain mixer was, yet it was on the menu). We did not enjoy the entertainment, and walked out of the africa show, as it was pretty offensive and cliche. The sound system is terrible and had to walk about of the games to in the bar, as we couldn't understand anything the emcee was saying. Our bed was rock hard, and took alcohol to be able to sleep (no joke). There were cockroaches in our room too, and in the hallway. This is the biggest red flag for me and why I wouldn't return. If there are cockroaches in the rooms, I don't want to think about the kitchen.

Disappointed

This is a hotel, not a full resort that an all-inclusive traveler might expect. Buffet meals are included (within certain hours- if you’d like to eat not in those time frames, you are out of luck) and a few restaurants are available- but the system to eat at them was strange. People lined up outside of them ~1-2 hours prior to them opening because the restaurants only took up to a certain amount of people per dinner. And it’s a small number, like 50. We never got to eat at any of the specialty restaurant because of this. Resort is steps away from Atlantis and we found ourselves eating there often. There are not things like kayaks, sailboats, etc to rent out. The beach is beautiful but small and is filled with locals trying to sell hair braiding, bags, cigars, and boat rides. This normally does not annoy me, but we were solicited every 10 minutes by someone. We have stayed at Riu before in other places and very much enjoyed it. But we would not come back to this one. We would still come back to the Bahamas but would likely stay at Atlantis or on another island in the Bahamas. Partial sea view room had a nice view but it also includes a giant concrete rooftop that is not pictured on the site. This wasn’t aggravating to us, but we still felt a little swindled that it was advertised differently. Rooms are standard and nice but walls thin, could hear neighbors on both sides of us for our trip duration. Everything was very clean. Would stay at other Riu resorts again, but not this one.we have stayed at other resorts with cheap carribean in Punta Cana and Mexico that were far superior for a cheaper price. We also visited Bahamas in the off-season (November) and those other places during peak travel time (feb-May).

What's to Love

No reservations needed at any of the restaurants.

Primo beachfront locale - three miles of satiny sand hugged by luscious, aquamarine water.

The Renova Spa - the massages squeeze the stress right out of your bod.

The rockin' theme nights twice a week - get ready to kick it. Put on your party pants.

Krystal Fusion Restaurant - it's a journey into the unexplored terrain of epic new sensations.

The unfailing, beachtastic service & attention. You'll feel like the beach royalty that you are.

Did we mention this resort has the only infinity pool in all of Nassau/Paradise Island?

What We'd Change

You may not find as many on-site activities like the other mega resorts, but the prime beachfront property makes up for it.

Why You Should Go

There's a hoppin', Vegas-style casino next door - grab sweet Lady Luck and try your hand.

The water sports (jet skis, water skiing & more) will blow you out of the water. Hang on!

You can dive into aahh-mazing excursions like swimming with the dolphins.

Atlantis next door has a great nightclub when you want to get your dance on.

The inventive entertainment staff is off-the-charts creative. They won't disappoint.

You're close to downtown Nassau - see the old quarter, museums, zoo and botanical gardens.
