melia bahamas not worth the money!

The resort is very old and not kept very clean. The rooms are comparable to a cheap motel 6. Not at all what I would expect from an all inclusive resort. There are only 2 elevators located in the center of the resort and all of the rooms are very far walking distance from everything.(Make surer you have everything you need from your room before you leave or you'll be spending A LOT of time walking!) The beach and pools are nice but there are so many drifters on the beach trying to sell you things. They also have locals set up right next to what you think is melia staff trying to rent out jet ski's which you think is part of the resort but its not. They try hard to con you out of more money then needed. They will also try to sell you drugs so parents watch your kids! Also, I understand that tipping is a good show of appreciation for good service and I have no problem tipping but when you're at what you think is an all inclusive resort and your spending the day at the pool/beach soaking wet you're not thinking about cash at that moment. The staff there is very rude if you do not tip each time you do anything. It's very rediculice and uncomfortable. The food is comparable to an IHOP and room service is not free. They charge you $10 for a "room service delivery fee" and then they expect a tip on top. there where horrible smells at every turn in the resort as well. The water was beautiful but that is it! I will never return to this resort and I would definitely never recommend any one I know to go there

Great Stay

We just returned from our vacation at the Melia Nassau beach resort, 5/11 to 5/18. First, like many responding here, we were concerned with the Jekyll and Hyde reviews. Our stay was great, as mentioned by a previous respondent very few resorts are perfect and we had a few hiccups, but for us, nothing that ruined our stay. And to reiterate my fellow respondent, some people should just stay home. Room: we had a view of the pools and gardens, room was large and well kept by the staff during our stay. Beach / water : awesome Staff: most very courteous and helpful. I could focus on a few what may appear as discontents or cold, but again, not a big issue. You treat people nicely you get nice in return. Shout outs: Maria, who was our waitress on our first night, at the market, what a gem so attentive and nice. We had, had a long trip, delayed due to weather, but made it in, late. We hooked back up with her throughout the week and she always made our day! Shelda and Sandra at the grille, again awesome ladies, very pleasant, loved you both and always went the extra mile. Thank you! I can’t remember everyone’s names, the young lady grilling hot dogs and hamburgers outside the grille, always appreciated your smile and courtesy, also my little hostess with the Mostess , you were always so pleasant Snorkeling: one of the criteria we use for vacation spots is on site snorkeling. This is hard to find in a lot of reviews as most don’t seem interested in snorkeling. The speaking of a small reef off the beach and morning turtles captured my attention from earlier reviews. The Melia has 3 large rock piles, with the one at the north end with the most activity, and with a stretch of imagination could be classified as a small reef. There is some coral formations here, and a good variety of fish. Fishes are not abundant nor of great size, but most fishes are represented. Was blessed to have a young turtle around and bumped into it several times, along with small rays and a few lobsters too. The water, color and clarity made up for the lack of abundant marine life. Food: again we were worried about the Jekyll and Hyde responses, not sure how anyone would rate as horrible. We have traveled to all inclusives from Mexico, Jamaica and the Grand Caymans. The food here was above average and very well prepared. We did the Italian restaurant (for our anniversary) and found it awesome, the wait staff, the food and atmosphere. Summary: if you are a normal person without high OCD tendencies I don’t see how you can go wrong

Well worth the money

I stayed at Melia for 3 days and was just looking for a quick tropical get away. The staff was very nice and helpful, they really just want everyone to have a good time. The drinks were what you would expect for an all inclusive of this price however they did the job. The adult pool was very small and didn’t have music all day which was rather disappointing. The beach was beautiful. The buffet left a little to be desired but had all the breakfast essentials. Cilantro and Neikkei were better than I expected however aqua was like an over glorified buffet. Overall I would recommend Melia if you are going for value.
