Good place to try out
First off, I am sending prayers to the Bahamas during this aftermath of hurricane Dorian. We came home on Aug 25 and I can't believe we stayed her just about a week before this terrible storm.
Arriving at the airport was a breeze, although we had a 2nd flight on a smaller plane which was a first time for me, and a bit intimidating. Customs was easy, small airport that was not busy so easy to find our transfer. Arriving at the hotel around 2, we were unable to check in to our room, but we were able to use the amenities which was nice. At 3 PM we checked in, and went to our room. I had paid for an ocean view, but there was no ocean view whatsoever. When I asked to switch rooms, they seemed aggravated. They said building 10 was considered ocean view, even though we were facing the opposite way. Finally after my second time complaining we switched rooms on day 2. Room is simple. They try and charge for safe use, but you can use it without paying which we did. (Sorry!)
You have to make dinner reservations, only 3 nights at a time, and they have 3 restaurants. Dont book any excursions through the hotel. They have to have 10 people to go, and will make you pay before they have enough people, which makes getting a refund frustrating. Go to port lucaya, it's a 10 min cab ride and you can book everything there. Port lucaya was amazing, go check it out!!
Service at the hotel was good, staff was nice. Beach was beautiful, food was food and pool was nice although the hot tub gets full of kids. Overall it was a nice place to stay. The bahamian people are awesome, I hope they can rebuild this hotel. Thank you for the kind memories! The resort is not too big, so walking is not an issue. Nightly entertainment is good, but after it can seem boring, not much to do.
The beach was really nice. Was only one pool, so I could tend to be crowded. The food was really good, much better than most resorts I have gone to. Definitely an Italian flair on resort, with Italian ownership. The rooms were average. We had an issue with the air conditioning not working they fixed it quickly. The toilet was not flushing correctly and they never fixed the problem. The condition of the room was in need of some work. It was showing a lot of wear and tear.
The resort itself was beautiful. However the customer service skills have a lot to be desired. I would like to share that I am handicapped and can't walk very far. When we arrived at the airport our ride to the resort was not there to pick us up as indicated. Finally found someone who was familiar with the resort and they called them to have someone pick us up. We finally arrived and checked in. Our room was so far from all of the activities and places to eat. The room had no air conditioner when we arrived, a quarter roll of toilet paper, one wash cloth for two people, and the remote control to the TV did not work. My daughter immediately called to the office to see if we could get a room closer to all activities and they were very rude saying that is what you paid for that is what you get. My daughter explained about my handicap with no results. She also told them about the other issues we had. After a few hours the air came on but nothing else was taken care of until the next day when some one came and fixed the TV remote and brought another roll of toilet paper. We never got more than one wash cloth as many times as we asked for them. I told my daughter I could not walk the distance any longer and she saw an area where you could rent bikes and went over. She found out they had wheelchairs. So she obtained one for me. That night after we were in bed there was a pounding at the door. Two big burley men were there to obtain the wheelchair, due to a mistake that they made. We found out we had to put a deposit on it and pay 10.00 a day. I slept on it and decided ok I will do it. Later that night I found a worm in my bed. Obtained the wheelchair. That night another pounding on the door, they gave us the wrong paperwork. Last exscurgion and no one picked us up. Found out it was booked through the resort . Go figure.
Room was fairly clean at best. Toilet did not flush well and the issue was not corrected by maintenance staffafter bringing it to their attention 3 different times.

In the Bahamas...I stayed on Paradise Island (The Rui and Paradise Island Harbour All-Inclusive Resorts) are good. My mom and I felt safe. No problems at all. We spent all last week there.
Paradise Island Harbour is an older hotel but the food was good, room ok, alcohol, good. It was quiet at the beginning of week but got busy around Thursday night.
We left on Saturday (travel Tuesday to Saturday). We had a blast!

Hi there,
I just got back from a trip to the Jolly Beach Resort in Antigua (which is an all-inclusive resort). It was an EXTREMELY safe resort. There were security guards at the entrance so that no one could get into the resort who didn't belong there. Not once during the entire trip did I feel even the slightest bit unsafe. The beach is private (with the exception of a couple vendors trying to sell jet ski rides and they very easily accept no as an answer and then leave you alone). Outside of the resort, there is a Harbor (Jolly Beach Harbour) which has a lot of nightlife (bars, restaurants, boardwalk, etc.) and it was a very "hoppin" area and also very safe (it is literally about a 5 foot walk from the resort. As soon as you leave the actual resort entrance, you are immediately at the start of Jolly Beach Harbour. I did not venture anywhere else in Antigua, but there are parts of Antigua that you will see from the ride from the airport to the resort that are poor (but that is to be expected).
I did not travel alone to this resort, but I did meet a woman (in her mid-40's) who traveled alone and really enjoyed the peace & quiet if that was what she wanted on a particular day, or she joined in all the fun and met other people (Jolly Beach Resort hosts a lot of activities every day to keep people engaged and having fun)!!
I hope this helps!

Viva Wyndham is very all-inclusive. Do not go here if you are a gourmet or picky eater, as their focus is not food. We felt safe here, but watch your belongings on the beach, as some small thefts occurred there. The activities are great! You will love it if you are an active person. If safety is your main concern, check with the US Embassy in the Bahamas for accurate information.
SummerCamper
Carol, I've been to Viva Wyndham Fortuna twice now. This is a secured facility - all inclusive, so no need to venture out. The beach is beautiful and the staff is very accomodating. I'm planning yet another trip there. Can't wait!
beachbabyshan
It was very safe and all inclusive drinks were a MAJOR plus. The food is so so but the nightly pizza is AMAZING!

Don't go to this resort!!!!! The food is not that good and the dining hall is only open certain hours. Very run down and lots of things in the rooms don't work...like the AC. Poor customer service.

Myself and a girlfriend stayed at the Gran Bahia Principe in Jamaica. It is listed as family friendly although there were many couples and loads of clothing-optional European families and couples on the beach (there is a clothing-free section far away from the family area if that's your thing which the French/Dutch seemed to ignore :). We felt safe always, had fun dancing in the clubs with the locals. The food in the buffet was very good, wine at extra cost was horrid so we just asked for and received extra "floaters" on the mixed drinks and bartenders obliged. It was not peak season but we still made sure to stake our spots on the beaches and pool areas early. The restaurants were hit or miss (the Italian was AWFUL, the continental was good). Had a massage at the spa and it was right up there in quality with the spas at the Fairmonts we've been to. The room was very nice-I negotiated an upgrade with CheapCarib based on comparison shopping with Expedia, received it, and the room was bigger than expected and nicely appointed. Had a few minor housekeeping issues that were resolved by a housekeeping manager right away, courteously and were kept up with thereafter. They obviously cared about our pleasure with our stay. The grounds are immaculately maintained. I did not like that the pools closed at dark, but it also keeps it quiet in the evenings and there is the beach if you must get wet after dark. We went at the end of June and it seemed a good time to go- not peak, post Spring Break. The staff were all typically good-natured Jamaicans who were ready to assist and strike up honest conversation. The beach is manmade mostly and not the best one I've been to but not the worst either and as a girlfriend trip we did really enjoy it. Transportation was included to the resort, and I even got my "rain" credit - it does rain in the Caribbean about every afternoon that time of year but it's also a welcome respite from the heat and sun and passes quickly. Overall I felt the resort was better than the three star rating (3.5, not a four) and the value for the money was definitely there. We weren't looking for a singles type place and I think we were the only women there who went as a pair - in other words you certainly won't find a date there, but if you're just trying to get away on your own, this is a nice place to do it.
Momx3
Well I stayed at the Viva Wyndham Fortuna resort in Grand Bahama Isalnd I would defitniely stay there by myself. EVERYONE and I mean EVERYONE is super friendly. I left my do not disturb sign out front and they did just not not disturb. They left my towels by the front door and it was great. If you are looking to relax this is the place. By like 10pm most places are closed in the lucaya marketplace except for the restaurant and few bars. I would recommend this Viva or Radisson at Grand Bahama Island.
Shylilith18
My 21-yr-old daughter and I went to Viva Fortuna Beach on Grand Bahama Island last week and found it to be plenty safe for women on their own. The resort itself was very safe and everyone was friendly. Whether or not you like it depends on what you are looking for - this is a family-type resort and not a place to find single men. We felt plenty safe in town (Port Lucaya) at night, as well.

Viva Wyndham at grand Bahama island was great. The resort is not busy with lots to do and and we felt 100% safe with 3 kids. The resort is away from town and all on it's own which makes it great.

I have a toddler who loved the baby pool at the Viva Wyndam in Grand Bahama Island. The water is warm most of the time however but perfect for small babies & toddler. There's no shade near the pool area so cover babies up well or they'll burn.

There were a lot of kids at the Wyndham, they have a Kids Club so I would say its a great place for kids. They do have a kids pool and some of the evening shows are for families. Shows like "The Lion King."

Grand Bahama Island is a distance from Eleuthera Island. When searching the internet, there was no information available for a ferry between these two islands. It appears a flight would be the best transportation between the islands. If you are looking to be close to Eleuthera Island, your best option is to stay in Nassau or Paradise Island.
MariaCC
You would be closer if you to Eleuthera if you stayed in Nassau.
2nd2None
No ferry from here at all. Stay at Nassau for this. You at not near any shopping here. We had to take a 15-min taxi ride to Port Lucaya which was $30 round trip.
Punjab
THERE IS NO SHOPPING OTHER THAN A STRAW MARKET AT THE CASINO ABOUT 15 MINUTES AWAY
SNOOP
Ten minute taxi ride to downtown shopping. I dont know the ferry answer.
harsh
Not close to any downtown shopping or any shopping anywhere. Never been to Nassau so not sure if it would be better.
Lessness
Not sure about the ferry, but there are two main shopping centers near the resort. About a 10 minute cab or car ride. Not really walk-able. We rented a car and drove around the island and went to the shopping centers then. Viva Wyndham Fortuna is a little distance from most of the other resorts which is nice because you have a bigger, more secluded beach. It's still very close to downtown Freeport, though.

Hi Joyce--
The water in the Bahamas doesn't differ too much from the Caribbean waters further South. Typically, it ranges from 84 degrees in the Summer, but rarely falls lower than 72 degrees in the Winter.
LaurenCC
The pool water is warm during the day because of the sun and moderate when the sun goes down. The beach water is similar.
Dubblegz
It was about 80 degrees
Ismailah
not cold but not like bath water.

The pool water is warm, don't expect it to be cool & refreshing b/c it's not. The beach water same, warm & I'm sure much cleaner than the pool.

water temperature is typical for Miami at this time of year. A little chilly at first but you get used to it after a few minutes and then you don;t even notice it.

Depends when you go. We went a February (winter) and it was a little chilly, but not too cold to swim.

what are your rates for single travelrs to the Bahamas?2 answers
7 years, 97 months ago
e
When pricing out a trip as a single traveller, simply change the number of passengers to one. The website automatically defaults to 2 pax (or double occupancy). The rule of thumb is that one person paying the single supplement rate pays about the same price for the room as two passengers paying double occupancy rates. Of course, many of our proprties have wonderful packages with very competitive pricing for single travelers.
ccsusan1
We only paid $750. In retrospect, I would pay more for better quality.

Excursions11 answers
I have read that there isn't much extra to do at the Viva Wyndham. What about excursions? I see the ones that are available for booking through cheapcaribbean, but are there others to book once there, and if so, what types?
7 years, 96 months ago
kate7911
CheapCaribbean does offer many excursions that you may pick from prior to your travel. You may also wait until you arrive in destination as they will have vendors on the property who provide excursions as well. Unfortunately, we do not have any information on what excursions are provided when you arrive.
DanielleCC
Yes there is a lot to do! They have a table dedicated to excursions they are very helpful!

We just came back from there and there was plenty to do. Snorkeling, windsurfing, sailing, kayaking, volleyball, bociball, soccer, pingpong, foosball, swimming pool, hot tub, etc. all of which were free. We went to dolphin encounter which was great. Deep sea fishing we caught a wahoo and the chef at the resort prepared it for us at no charge and it was so good. There are lots of other excursions to do but wait till you go to book because it will be cheaper and you can check the forecast after you get there to choose the best weather days.. There is also dance lessons and aerobics by the pool every day as well as bingo where a few bottles of Bacardi rum are won every day.

I just got back from this resort. There is an excursion desk you can go to.
Excursions include
Lucayan National Park & Cave Tour
Deep sea fishing
Glass Bottom Boat
Snorkeling
Kayaking Nature Tour
Sunset cruise
Bahama Mama Dinner Cruise
Robinson Crusoe Cruise
Booze Cruise
Dolphin Swim
Parasailing
Dolphin Assistant for a Day
Horseback Riding
Bonfire

There are so many options once you get there and the staff is very helpful if you have questions. My husband and I rented a car for a whole day for only $50 plus gas. We had a great time exploring the island. Cabs are available to pick you up or the rental service is right in front of the hotel. We chose not to do any other excursions (we just loved sitting on the beachs and there was unlimited sailing, snorkeling, parasailing and kayaking on the beach) but there were many brochures there in the lobby with info on them. Hope that helps!
Rleaman
DO NOT BOOK BEFORE YOU GO! There are many excursions that you can book once you arrive and many times you get a different price, whether more or less. And, if you book at the resort, you are more likely to get transportation included in the fee so you don't have to pay additional costs.
littlelouwho
you can borrow bicycles at the resort and take a ride into Port Lucaya to the marketplace and straw bazaar...totally flat terrain, takes about 45 minutes.
rent a car for $50 per day and drive to the Nat'l park which has beautiful beach.
Wednesday night is Fish Fry at Taino Beach...either take a taxi or drive using the car you rented earlier that day :)
The excursions on the site were also offered at the hotel...same prices so if really want to do something, book in advance for 10% discount.
Swimming with the dolphins was definitely worth the $$ - great experience for all.
minboston
There is a concierge who can assist with excursions including fishing, jet skis, and cave viewing to name a few. Everything is available if you wish.

There are some great trips available. Would suggest booking through the hotel ... they have an abundance available. One of the trips we booked online was cancelled by the time we got there and it took some time to get a refund.

when we stayed at the Viva Wyndham we were there for 4 nights. We made friends at the resort who rented snorkel and fins and had a wonderful day snorkeling. They said they went right off the beach at the resort and saw lots of really neat things. (barracuda, sting ray, clown fish) we did try out the trapeze at the resort (which is harder than it looks!) but the other days we had excursions booked. we went on the "Robinson Cursoe Booze Cruised & Snorkel" our captain was William, i would recommend him. Another day we did the UNESCO Dolphin Swim, which also did not disappoint. We booked all or our excursions before we left though bestonbahamas.com, Just make sure you book your excursions for Freeport Bahamas, because that's where the Viva Whyndham is. On our other free day we went into town and shopped the small straw market. It's not as large as the one in Nassau, but we found the souvenirs we were looking for. If your looking to do a specific thing, i recommend booking it before you leave. They offer the same excursions at the Wyndham, but the availability is much less because most of the excursions are already booked and full.
Bekki
your correct that you need to leave the resort for other activities, like shopping, bars, restaurants, the casino are all down at port lucaya, about a 10minute taxi ride.
most of the excursions are water activities and the hotel can book that for you or check online for them. i went to best on bahamas to check for tours. freeport is a quieter island compared to nassau. i don't think i would go back there even thou i had alot of fun but the hotel doesn't offer much to do if you just want to hang out there.

7 years, 94 months ago
Missouri
On CheapCaribbean.com's web site and the resort's own web site, it does not list the resort as a strictly non-smoking property.
KristinCC
I think everyone except me was smoking there-I don't know about smoking in the rooms-I did not detect a smell in the room & ashtrays were on the balconies of the rooms.
sunseeker3100
No it is not, although smoking is not allowed in any of the restaurants and there are smoke free buildings of rooms.
Islandwanderer
yes and no. The rooms seemed to be non-smoking, there were no ashtrays inside of the rooms, nor did it smell, as a smoking room does! all of the rooms have balconies, so if you're a smoker, you could always go outside. Also, there were a few guests smoking cigarettes outside of the bar in a small area set off to the side. The smokers seemed to interact well with the non-smokers, they were not rude or obnoxious & the cigarette smell was not abundant. Remember, this resort is right on the ocean & there is constantly a wonderful breeze.
Bekki
The only smoking I seen was outside and very little at all. I hate smoke and had no problem there at all with it!

We just got back from there. There is smoking allowed. There are designated non-smoking room buildings and the restuarants are non-smoking. Smoking is allowed in the bar.

Drinking age 18. Check for hotel near the Port Lucaya Marketplace...very few kids....
AngelB
there were a few kids here... If I were you I'd stay in Nassau not here! Not much to do and nothing is close to the resort.... this resort is really for people who want to just be alone and dont like getting out!
1 pool 1 hot tub
Stacu
There are definately kids of all ages. Drinking age is 18. One pool, one hot tub.
1226
there are not too meny kids, I was there with mine (8months) but very few around. Drinking age: no idea. Pools: 1 for adults, 1 for kids. 1 jacuzzi for up to 12 people. Great during rain and at night!
Brex
The drinking age is 18 and they have one pool.
Shirls
The drinking age is 18, and I wouldn't go there during spring break. I wouldn't go anywhere during spring break! We just got back, and there were no shenanigans going on with drunk people. It was more family-oriented. There's a large pool, a kiddie pool, and a large hot tub. The pool has no heater, so it was too cold for swimming in February.

I have acouple of question. 1- how far is duty free shopping? And how much of a fee is it for the in room safe ?9 answers
7 years, 93 months ago
kconger
There are multiple shopping areas located a short cab ride away. We suggest speaking with the concierge's desk for information on the best places to visit and for a reputable cab company, as they can call a taxi service for you. There is a fee for the room safe, however you would need to check with the resort directly regarding the specific fee amount.
KristinCC
shopping is about 10 min away. cab ride is $15 a couple or $5 a person if you have more than 3 riding, thats one way.
room safe is free, you enter a code to open and close. the safe is small
Stacu
Q: how much is it for the room safe ?
A: $15.00
shay2012
Duty free shopping is in Port Lucaya which is about a 15 minute and $15 taxi ride from the resort. You need to go during the day as the shops are all closed by 5pm. The in-room safe fee is $3 per day but we complained and they gave it to us for $10 for the 5 days we were there.
cocktailtime
Shopping is a $15.00/2 people one way taxi ride away. No options, shuttles, etc. Its worth it to get better food.
No charge for use of safe in room.
JFRtraveler
shopping is about 25 minutes by bike and 10 minutes by taxi. the taxi will cost you $15 one way. the safe fee is 3 dollars per day
vacay2012
Duty Free is available in the Freeport Airport as well as at the Lucaya Marina which is 15 minute taxi ride.
The room safe is free.
Chrisp2999
Port Lucaya Markets are about 10 min away, maybe less... its a $15 taxi ride each way. The room safe is $3/day
HollyP
You can pretty much do duty free shopping anywhere including at the hotel. There is a market about 15 miles away for all products. The room safe is free.

What beer/wine/liquors are included in the all-inclusive deal?9 answers

Drinks and wines (international brands included)

llimited variety of beer. no bottled beers available.
house wine at the bar is terrible. wine served at the fine restaurants are better
drinks are not that good either. too weak and lines are too long and slow at the bar. when the cruise ship day guests arrived they ran out of the beer
bahamarama
Beer good. Wine not great. Although the hard alcohol was not top shelf the bartenders are good mixers and the drinks come out beautiful and delicious. I did not get a "cheap alcohol" hang over so it couldn't have been that bad.
afternoontea
not sure about the beer. Cheap rum
kimklg1
Anything you want (except very high end). They offered any mixed drink you would want, plus specialty cocktails. The wine was from a box, but truly not bad. I have no idea about the beer.
sandywon
They only have 2 beers, local beers I didn't try them, I know they have wine but I'm not a wine drinker but liqours they have just about everything.
wesker
There is no top-shelf liquor here. They have a drink menu that is mostly drinks made w/ rum. Expected since it's the Caribbean. Mainly Bahama Mama's, Rum Punch, Mai Tai's, Long Islands, Pina Colada's, etc. They do serve two tap beers. Banks and another. Wine is not their strong point. Only ordered it once. Overerall our trip was good and the drinks flowed daily. Pretty tasty too.
Chrisp2999
The cheap kind,,,,all bahama alcohol!

It was the island Sands beer that everyone seemed to like. ANy liquor you can think of just not name brands.

yes you can have all the veggies you want, they are always in the buffet and very various! I was there last month with my 8month newborn and I needed twice a day a special veggie soup for him: the cooks always made it fresh for us daily! Great personnel!
Brex
We just visited there last week. Had an amazing time. As far as the vegetarian options, they have vegetables, salads, etc. No veggie burgers though. As a past vegetarian, I know the challenges it can be, but even with all the meat options, you won't go hungry as a vegetarian.

My son is a vegan and I am a vegetarian. We had more than enough to eat. There were no veggie burgers however. Most islands are very vegetarian friendly.

All inclusive is everything.. There is constantly food to eat.. you can make reservations at the 2 restaurants on site (make them in advance) They cook out by the pool sometimes during the day or at night. ALWAYS plenty of food! I didnt have my money on me at all at the resort. Your tips are included, but we left money at the end of the week for those that we met and really liked. But thats optional. The room, beach chairs (under tiki huts- plenty of them avail.) Beach towels, alcohol, bicycles, snokeling (awesome, must try) kayaking are all included.. You really will not need to carry cash on you at the resort.
HollyP
yes it's a real all inclusive! meals, drinks (ALL) free beaches, bicycles! ALL!
Brex
We just visited there last week. All inclusive meant: Free food, drinks (alcoholic/nonalcoholic), games (darts, tennis, archery, volleyball, etc.), meals anytime, beach chairs/towels, dance lessons, bicycles, snorkels, kayaks... Well worth it.
TChick54
Included at this hotel is: Dirty rooms that smell like mold, 3 meals covered in fruit flies that you can't even eat, alcohol (get there early they will run out), beach full of seaweed and yes bicycles (but they won't tell you what is available you have to figure it out on your own!
mgmt7498
Not only do you get three meals there is a snack bar that serves hot dogs, hamburgers, fries and some type of salad most of the day. There is also a pizza bar. They have kayaking, snorkeling equipment, bicyles, pool tables, ping pong, beach chairs and lounges free. While you are at the resort there is no reason to have money. All drinks are free. If they don;t know what it is they will make it if you tell them what goes in it. There is an expresso and latte bar 24 hours a day.

Number of people...6 answers
There will be four of us - the wife and me plus two grandchildren, a 3 year old boy & a 15 year old girl.
They are not brother/sister, but cousins. There was a time when they could share a double bed, but those days are gone, even down South where we live~!! So, is it possible to get a room with a double bed and two singles or a roll-away or some accomodation for the two grandchildren.
7 years, 92 months ago
Fort Walton Beach, Florida
The standard room is available with one king or two queen beds. Typically, a room with two queen beds does not have enough room to accomodate an additional rollaway. Unfortunately, we are not able to guarantee any special room requests as they are subject to resort availability at the time of check in.
ccsusan1
i know they had rollaway beds there... There are rooms with two double beds, but i am not sure about 2 doubles and 2 singles in same room
HollyP
Most of the rooms only have two double beds. The rooms are a good size, but I am not sure you would want to cram roll-away beds into the room. An option you can look into would be getting two rooms that were joined by a door, that way you could have a total of 4 double beds.
TChick54
DO NOT GO TO THIS HOTEL! I would be very afraid one of the children may get food poisoning. It was the worst all inclusive I've ever been to, and I've been to many!
mgmt7498
Not sure we had two double beds for both of our children.
Shirls
The rooms are too small to accomodate a rollaway bed. Best suggestion I would make would be Grandpa and 3 year old, grandma and grandaughter. They have rooms with 2 Queen beds

Is it possible to delay the return flight?3 answers
As advertised that airfare is included, is it possible to delay the return flight for a few days later? We have friends who are planning to be arriving just as we would be departing, but would like to stay a few extra nights with them, so would like to delay our return flight to be leaving beyond the package-deal-included airfare. Is this possible?

Yes, it is possible to book extended airfare. This special package is unable to be done online and would need to be done via telephone with one of our experienced Beach Experts.

Not sure....maybe with increse in price

We wanted to do the same thing and we were told we couldn't by the airline because we were in a package and the package would have become null and void. We would have had to cancel everything and it would have cost a lot of money. Good luck.

I would think so depending on what day of the week.

There may be but you'll want a quick flight back this hotel was horrible!

You fly into the Grand Bahamas International Airport which is about 15-20 minutes from the hotel. Very easy driving if you rent a car. Roads are pretty much deserted.

Nearest airport is Freeport. Whatever flight you take will connect through Miami and can not be nonstop to Freeport.

Do you get unlimited trapeze classes?7 answers
How frequently are there classes? How big do the classes get? Do they do more than beginner instruction? I would love to take one or two classes every day while I am there.
7 years, 89 months ago
Esther
Trapeze instruction classes are available every day, weather permitting. Class sizes are directly dependant on the volume of guests staying at the Viva Wyndham Fortuna All Inclusive Resort. We do recommend to contact the resort directly to inquire about additional instruction arrangements.
MellissaCC
The trapeze didn't seem very busy and I am sure you can do it as much as you like.
Shirls
I would say yes as many as you want. The instructors were there for two sessions a day, from 9-11am and 3-5pm. They had an average of 3 to 5 people in line at most, and much of the time it had no line. I saw a couple of people train over and over again and they gladly worked with them.
pysano
I never really saw any "classes" going on. They just allowed people to go up on the trapeze with a guide at the top and bottom, no real instruction happening.
bmoremomof2
This was my FAVORITE activity by far. They are open from 9-11 am and then again from 3-5 pm everyday. It wasn't that busy when I was there in January so I got to go as many times as I wanted. They basically teach you one main move and then once you nail that they'll teach you another one. The trapeze attendants are the BEST btw.
KC22
Although we did not inquire about the trapeze classes, I do know that mainly kids were walking over to swing on the trapeze.
Also, if the weather is not just right, [it was windy for two of the days we were there] they close the trapeze down due to safety reasons.

We usually fly into Ft Lauderdale the day before and stay the night in a hotel near the airport as we live and fly out of Spokane Washington, this helps break up the long flights and allows us to catch a early flight through Bahamas air we like them because they do not charge for the first checked bag, pretty sure southwest air flies out of San Jose and that's who we usually fly with.

Do I need a car ? Dive shop on site ?6 answers
Do I need to rent a car ? How close to town ? I am assuming Freeport ? Do you have a shuttle to pick us up at the airport ? How can we get to town ? Is there a dive shop on site ? Do they have a web site ? What are the costs for boat dives ? Thank you !
7 years, 88 months ago
California
It is up to you if you would like to rent a car depending on how much sightseeing outside of the resort you will be doing. The resort is roughly a 10-15 minute drive from downtown Freeport. There is no complimentary shuttle between the airport and resort, however when booking your reservation with CheapCaribbean.com, you can choose to purchase the round-trip transfer service at an additional cost. You can rent a car, call a cab, or there may be a local bus that you can take to get to town. The information we have from the resort states that there is a dive shop on property, however you would be best to check with the resort for further information on the shop, including pricing.
KristinCC
You do not need a car if you plan to stay mostly in the resort. You can get taxi to nearby marketplaces. Taxi and rental cars are available at the entrance of the hotel. While most cars are left hand drives (American), you drive on the left hand side of the road (British).
btse
They do have a watersports cabana which can direct you to diving along with snorkle equipment, kayaks, windsailing etc.
There is a taxi driver who was always on time & rates are reasonable (his name is Joe and he is at the hotel frequently) to Port Lucaya it is approximately $5 per person each way. The airport is $31 for 4 people each way. Take advantage of the free bicycles and ride the 5 miles each way to Port Lucaya to shop, gamble and get a coconut drink (they will refill it at the Wyndham) just bring a backpack to bring your goodies back on the bike ;-)
deer65
We rented a car and went into town. Car rental was $100/day but taxi service seemed to be $25 everytime you went anywhere. The hotel does have diving available but I'm not sure of the cost. We didn't do any of that. I wouldn't bother going to Freeport...there's nothing there. Lucaya has all the boats and tourist things but really the Fortuna hotel has everything you need. It's worthwhile driving to High Rock and checking out Bishop's food and diving. He had great cracked conch and tells a good story.
Escapist82
You don't need to rent a car, but if you want to sight see then you can probably rent a scooter. The closest town is Freeport, but for shopping, you'd go to Port Lucaya. A taxi ride down there would cost about $15 one way. They have various shops for the cruise folk and a straw market.
Through Cheap Caribbean you can get a shuttle service which was pretty reasonable and reliable. Also, when we went, a free snorkeling excursion was provided by Cheap Caribbean as part of the trip. They do have a dive shop near the buffet building where you can arrange either the snorkeling trip or scuba dives. Unfortunately, we just did the freebie so I don't know the price. There is a reef close enough offshore that you can snorkel over and I believe the hotel will actually loan out snorkel equipment.
DenverDave
Taxi is best way to get from airport to resort. Freeport is close - about 10 minute ride and Taxi is still best. I think they had a dive shop, but cannot remember......

We just came back from this hotel last week. They have 3 buffet meals a day for breakfast, lunch and dinner with LOTS of choices and good food. The bar is fully stocked and you can get anything you need. They also have a cafe that you can eat from late night from 11-2 am. There are 2 restaurants that you can choose to eat at but they require reservations and some of the items on menu do cost extra. Everything else is completely covered under the all inclusive. You have many excursions you can choose from and those you also pay for but they are not expensive at all compared to some excursions you may choose from on like a cruise ship.

There's a bar and disco called the Goombay right on the property. They have nightly dancing and a DJ spinning the beats each night after the live shows. The bartenders keep you with plenty of drink all day and night. They are also very nice and the drinks are not watered down. I drank Bahama Mamas each night I was there and each night I left feeling great. Good thing my room was directly in front of the club so I did not have to stumble too far.

What is the airfare for children under 17 in this AI deal?2 answers
6 years, 78 months ago
FY Lauderdale
Normally, airfare for children ages 2 - 17 is the same as an adult fare. You can call in and talk to any of our sales agents at 1-800-915-2322 to get an idea. Thanks.
RobinCC
your best deal is to book a package deal unless you have miles. For what air typically costs anywhere in the US to Mexico, roughly $550 or higher (unless Florida) and you price out the cost of a hotel and all the food and beverages (even sodas) your best deal is going with a company that buys in bulk. Look at it this way:
2 to a room that is approx $200 per nite
airfare that is $575 purchased alone
Food and beverage per day lets guesstimate $200
If i paid separately PER PERSON, my cost for a 5 nite stay is $2075 or higher PER PERSON. With cheapcaribbean.com our per person cost to include EVERYTHING including transfers to and from was under $800 PER PERSON TOTAL. Best deal going!!!! If you have hotel points and just need the air, then anywhere other than the very southern states you will be over $500 for sure.

HORRIBLE FOOD and drinks
seahorse1
All inclusive means all food and alcohol - just beware of the "all inclusive" resorts that put a limit on how many drinks or serve really cheap alcohol...you don't get your money's worth if you have to go buy your own alcohol.
Linese
All Inclusive covers food, drink (alcoholic and non), nightly entertainment, and non motorized sports gear. It doesn't include 'motorboats', scuba diving (though some do have free classes in the pool). Neither does it include spa treatments. Some locations will include room service while others charge for it and some simply don't have it. A lot of resorts have mini bars that are included but check with the front desk before assuming so.

This resort is located about 13 miles from Freeport International Airport and although the resort does not provide shuttles if you book through CheapCaribbean.com we would be more than happy to help you arrange transfers. The current price per person for round trip transfers is between $33.00 and $37.50. As of today the resort does have availability for the dates that you requested, please call the CheapCaribbean.com Sales Department at 800 915 2322 and we can help you start planning!

You'll get a street or un kept grass view. DO NOT PAY FOR UPGRADES. We paid for a King bed upgrade and when we got there, the resort said they only have a few of those in the whole resort & don't guarantee them & that they don't offer any type of refund for the extra we paid. They said we have to contact CheapCaribbean, which we did that evening & they diod not reply to us. (4 days now).
As far as transport tation, the airport is about 8-9 miles away, 15-20 minutes. Cab fare for 4 was $31. For 2 I think its a little less. Lots of cabs available. Double check with the driver BEFORE you get in the cab. We had no problems with that.
Have Fun!

SORRY I CAN'T ANSWER YOU. CHEAPCARIBBEAN DOES NOT ALLOW HONEST ANSWERS ... ONLY ANSWERS THAT DON'T MAKE THEM LOOK BAD.

Some rooms view ocean, some view "garden" which is not very well landscaped. Taxi from airport is $45.00, taxi to airport is $25.00. Suggest you reserve several taxi's to the airport, ours was 30 minutes late getting there to pick us up. Hotel staff said that it's no big deal.
SailinRon
generally the better the view the more expensive
beachlover4
The airport is around 15 min ride. There are plenty of taxi vans available. Pre-pay option was perfect. No worries if you are getting a fair deal. CheapCarribean offers this option and it was just what we needed. Timely and priced right. They load/unload your luggage and give you a voucher for the return trip. They were a the resort early for our departure from the island.

Room, food, all beverages and tips. Some resorts have upcharges for higher priced alcohol and food items, but you do not need to spend the money on that. I generally do tip the bartenders and or servers a bit, it seems to be good charma.

There are a couple bars and restaurants on beach near resort but there is more nightlife further south near to Freeport. These would be accessible by cab.

There are shows at Viva and bar is open 'til midnight. Off resort, you would have to go to Freeport proper, which is only a few miles West.

Unfortunately this is not something we offer, and therefore would be unable to advise on. We would recommend reaching out to an excursion company directly (for example, we work with Nexus Tours in the Bahamas).
