Room Smelt Like Raw Sewage and Other Issues

We had a wonderful experience booking through cheap Caribbean and ended up with the option for about the same price to stay at the Tamarijn or Divi. We chose the Tamarijn because of the rooms right on the beach. Unfortunately, the experience for my wife, 2 year old, 7 year old, and myself with the rooms was a terrible one unlike any other I've had before. On our first day we opened the balcony door and as soon as we did so a smell of raw sewage entered our room. It was being drawn in through our air conditioner water line apparently. We asked the front desk to check into it and after calling 3 times with no one showing up to the room over 2 hours we had to walk to the front desk and ask in person. Eventually they sent someone who told us we needed to call the front desk to take care of it....face palm.... The front desk told us they would see if another room was available but never got back to us. The next day after flushing our toilet, the toilet continued to run (no clogs) and flooded our entire room with toilet water. We called the front desk to tell them about this since it was an emergency, 15 minutes went by and no one showed up as the room continued to flood. We had to run to the front desk in person which is the only way they would send someone. Because of this they finally moved us from our sewage smelling flooded room. The next day we left our new room for breakfast and when we returned we found that the privacy bolt lock (top chain) was somehow locked. Apparently it locked itself somehow when we left. Again, we needed to go to the front desk who was again terribly unhelpful about sending a locksmith to fix the door for us. The same day a number of our key cards stopped working. I've had this happen at other hotels and I usually don't care. But when I told them they simply asked for the room number and issued new keys without asking my identity or for my identification. So it seems if you ask for new keys for anyroom, they would likely just give them to you....very scary. I'm not a picky traveler and this is the first time anything like this has happened to me at any resort or hotel. My friends stayed at the Divi and booked through Cheap Caribbean and had no issues. Again, cheap caribbean was great for booking, the Tamarijn beaches, food, and pools were nice. But the rooms and service was such that I may never book with cheap carribbean again and definitely never stay at the Tamarijn and recommend people avoid this resort altogether since there are so many other great choices around Aruba.

Great all inclusive

Stayed at the Tamarijn the first week in July. This was our third time there the first was 8 years ago. The staff and the service was still as wonderful and as friendly as the first time. We like that all the rooms are beachfront and this is the reason we choose this all inclusive. This last time I have noticed the rooms at the tamarin a little “tired” beds are not as comfy mattresses seemed a little old or mabye just a cheeper mattress. Was very loud and I thought the springs were going to pop out. Drawers on the dresser never closed properly if at all. There was a expresso machine in the room that I could never get to work properly it would only spit out about a ounce of coffee. Not sure what’s wrong with having a plane k-cup machine I think that’s what used to be in the rooms. The beach when you walk into the ocean has a lot and I mean a lot of sharp large rocks in it so when you walk in you really need aqua shoes. We had to purchase them because we did not bring ours for the fact we never needed them before. I do understand this is not the fault of the resort more a force of nature. Just wanted to warn other people of the sharp stones and sharp coral floating around there. Aside from all of that the tamarijn is still a very nice resort as long as your not looking for a top of the line 5 star resort.

Best choice on the island for the money

Great vacation! It was my third time in Aruba and the best. Pay for the all inclusive, you'll spend the same either way with all the food and drinks. Julio the bartender was so nice and full of life and Imelda in the buffet dining room was so pleasant and happy to serve us. Buffet food was better than the restaurants with such a huge variety from sushi to pasta to steak and so much more. Take water shoes for entering the beach water, lots of shells and coral. Take a Yeti cup or something similar for your drinks, bartender will fill whatever cup you bring. Bring $1 bills to be able to tip the taxi driver. Tips are not necessary on the resort. Don't book transportation ahead of time. There is a taxi line right outside the door, cost ranges from $10 to $30 one way for up to 5 people depending on how far you go. There is a set rate for all of Aruba. There is no Lyft or Uber in Aruba. Get a card from the taxi driver in case you need it later. This is a very safe island, I've never felt uncomfortable there. This resort is also very kid friendly, but still a very nice time for adults without kids. Ask for the first floor for the best experience as the sand is 6 foot from your door.

Right outside the door of our room. At the Bunker Bar
