Playa Encuentro is where you should go if you're an advanced surfer, but the water in the whole Cabarete area is good for surfers of all levels. 


Puerto Plata has hosted the Professional Windsurfing Association World Cup several times and now runs the Cabarete Race Week every year for those who want to compete in windsurfing. If kites are more your style, there are lots of kite surfing clubs in Puerto Plata for you to learn how to set sail.

Cabarete: Day and Night

Action-packed water sport adventures by day, dancing and drinking at night. If you’ve got an adventurer’s spirit and rhythm in your feet, you have to visit Cabarete. The small beach town overflows with both culture and excitement and is a fit for those who want to experience everything. 


You have to love the beach to spend a day in Cabarete, because that’s where it all happens. Everyone attaches to their board of choice—a surfboard, skateboard, kiteboard—and starts going. At night, the beach transforms into party central, where music, drinks and food lead to dancing, fun and laughter.

What's better than a water park? A water park with a marina and casino. It's perfect for families of all age groups, so pack up the whole family and head to the Ocean World Adventure Park, Marina and Casino. 


With so much to see, it offers a day of fun-filled events. Families can enjoy the restaurants and sights together. The sea lion and shark attractions are great learning opportunities and the whole group can swim with the dolphins for the experience of a lifetime. After the kids go to sleep, adults can hop the bars and win big in the casino.

Amber Museum

Take a walk through the center of town where you’ll see beautiful examples of authentic Victorian houses and buildings. One of them is home to the famous Amber Museum.


On any day of the week except Sunday, you can take a guided tour of museum housing a special collection of precious Dominican amber. After learning about the gorgeous and ancient gem, make sure to browse the museum's gift shop. You'll want to pick out your favorite piece of jewelry to remember your trip to the amber coast. 


The Best of the Beaches

Puerto Plata is popular because there are fun beach activities from nearly any section of its amber coast. Plenty of beachfront hotels settle along the soft sand in Puerto Plata. 


Playa Dorada and Costa Dorada's natural beauty make them favorites among tourists and hoteliers. The Be Live Grand Marien, for example, prides itself on its beachfront location on Costa Dorada. Cofresi Beach is also popular with hotels like Presidential Suites Cofresi by Lifestyle and Cofresi Palm Beach Resort calling it home. 


If you’re an experienced swimmer and enjoy waves, you’ll have fun on Playa Grande's beautiful water. And for the most relaxing beach experience, head to the Maimon beach area and enjoy the peace and quiet.
