New home away from home!

First off cheapcaribbean.com was an excellent source for booking our trip. They made it to easy! We stayed in Freeport at the Viva Fortuna. Absolutely amazing. This is a resort for more adults than kids. But it was super relaxing, the beach was gorgeous, and the all inclusive package was worth the money. There was never a short on food or rum. Lol. The staff was very accommodating. Tipping will get you better service for sure. I definitely recommend this resort if you are looking to relax and get away or just to get a massage on the beach. Which was one of my highlights.

dissapointed

Have booked several times thru Cheap Caribbean and have never been dissapointed with a resort. Wish I could say the same now but truly can't. Good points: the beach was awesome, always clean, sports equipment was plentiful and in good shape, the staff there was friendly and helpful. The room was sufficient. Ocean view with a balcony was awesome for morning coffee. Entertainment was standard resort fare. If you have kids there's plenty for them to do including the trapeze for memories they'll not forget. Not so good points: the staff did not seem to be happy and it showed in their response to guests, we had to call for fresh wash cloths every day. I am not a picky eater but i do like a little variety. The buffet was the same every day and food prep was below average. We ate at two of the restuarants, the meals were adequate but staff could have done better. We did not do any tours so I can't offer my opinions. We did come to soak up some sun and go for long walks on the beach and made new friends at some of the local hangouts accessible from the beach. So, some good some not so good. Not enough good for us to recommend it to others or come back.

Okay Experience

Room: We got the basic room which we figured would be okay since we don't like to spend much time in our room. The positives: The cleaning service was great. They came every morning and were very thorough. The room was also pretty big and included a small balcony that faced the garden area. The negatives: The bed wasn't very comfortable, the sheets were very poor quality and always wrinkled which made it feel like it wasn't very clean. The bathroom was very dated, the shower took forever to warm up (We had a day without any hot water), and if you have a connecting room good luck! The connecting rooms have a small extremely thin door which means you can hear everything your neighbors are saying and doing. One night we barely had the tv on and the neighbors knocked on the door and asked us to turn it down. When we asked to switch rooms to one that was not connected they said we could not because they didn't have any available. Be aware that often a cruise ship comes into port and the guests all stay at the Wyndam which takes us the majority of the rooms. (Please also be aware that guests from the cruise ship are treated WAY better than the rest of us) Service: The service and staff were awesome. Some of the staff lives on the resort and they all participate in activities during the day and nighttime. They were all extremely friendly and worked very hard to make everyone feel welcome. They also have photographers that are out and about to take pictures on your way to dinner which you can order. (These came out great) This really made our stay a positive one. On another note, we did have some negative experiences with one of the staff members making some inappropriate comments about girls which made things very uncomfortable seeing him around the resort afterwards. Dining: There are very limited dining options. There are only three options a bistro, Asian, and Italian. The Bistro was terrible and the Asian and Italian were great. Something we learned and never saw on our paperwork or previous reviews was that no matter how long you stay you can only get three restaurant nights and the rest have to be in the al you can eat. We stayed a week so we only got to eat at each restaurant once. The buffet wasn't bad and had a lot of options but definitely isn't anything to write home about. There's also a beach bar area that serves burgers, hotdogs, and some chips/pasta salad to grab on the run. The bars were great and served just about everything you can think of. The only crappy part was they don't have blenders so they can't make any frozen drinks. Beach/Pools/Excursions: The pool was awesome and very big. The only thing we found was that the pool was very cold. Like almost painfully cold. (Its not heated) The hot tub was big and very warm. The beach is beautiful. There are miles and miles of beach and the resort provides comfy lounge chairs. In the Bahamas there is no such thing as a private beach so you can walk as far as you want down the shoreline. Excursions: There are tons of excursions to choose from. You can sign up at the desk similar to what you do for dinner reservations. We missed out on some of the water activities because it was too windy to go out. We found some of the excursions to be a little pricey but hey you get what you pay for. Other: The wifi is absolutely terrible. We were out of the country so we couldn't use our cell plans so we relied on the wifi which was TERRIBLE. The only place we kinda got wifi was in the buffet at breakfast and dinner but it was extremely slow. This made it very hard to keep in contact with family back home. Nightlife: The staff puts on a show every night which was an awesome experience. I can't say enough good things about the hard work they put into these shows. Value: Overall the vacation was enjoyable but I wouldn't suggest going if you are in it for the room or food. If you want a place to relax on the beach or by the pool then this is the place for you. For the price, it was definitely worth it but going forward I will likely spend a bit more to go some place else.

Wish it had been better

After reading the online description and positive reviews, we had great expectations for our trip to Viva Wyndham. However, it wasn't long after our arrivial, that we realized our expectations were too high. Our "welcome" was a young woman at the front desk who told us we needed to wait 10 minutes before she'd check us in, because we arrived at 2:50 and check in is at 3pm. Once we were able to get in our room, we found a very old, dilapidated building. One of our bed frames was broken, the bathroom was extremely moldy, and the walls were so thin we could hear every word spoken by our neighbors on both sides. We tried to ignore the room since we wouldn't be in it that much, but sleeping there at night was difficult and unpleasant. The pool area was nice, although seating was minimal for all of the people at the resort. Noone was on the beach, where there was ample seating, because the sand and ocean were so full of large rocks that the kids couldn't swim or play. The current was too rough, so noone was using the available nonmotorized equipment. Although the pool water was freezing, the children at the resort had fun in there. The entertainment staff were lively and upbeat, always trying to involve people in dancing and games. There was always available food, either at the buffet or snack bar. It was fine, basic cafeteria food. My kids enjoyed using the ping pong and foosball table, when they were available. Overall, our vacation was a little bit of a disappointment. If you book this resort, don't set your expectations too high and make the best of it.
