A trip to UNICO is a must!

We absolutely loved our stay at UNICO! Things we loved: -The resort is smaller than what we've been to in the past, but we enjoyed the more intimate setting and it enables the staff to be more personable throughout the stay. -The food is phenomenal! All of the dinner restaurants and bars/coffee shops are amazing. Our two favorite spots were Mi Carisa, a delicious Italian-themed restaurant, and the 2087 Restaurant that is a steakhouse during dinner hours. Also, the portions are gourmet size so we never left feeling overly stuffed from our dinner. We rated it 4 stars because the buffet and room service were decent but not quite up to the standard of the sit-down restaurants. -The room was extremely comfortable and the views are amazing. From almost every room you can see the ocean from your balcony, which makes it truly breathtaking and makes you truly feel like you’re in paradise. -The resort has a ton of events every day! We did a Mezcal tasting and watched a few movies on the lawn from our balcony! -They have great wifi service throughout the resort and an app that makes ordering things so easy and convenient -Always pool & beach chairs open, regardless of timing in the day. Pools are kept extremely clean and sometimes have cute floaties to use! The staff will also roll out umbrellas if your chair doesn't already have one nearby! It wasn't a huge issue to us, but the beach was covered in seaweed when we visited, that is why we rated this section with 4 stars. It may have been the time of year we visited, and to their credit, the staff worked night and day to try to keep the beach clear. Things we didn't like: -Every restaurant requires dinner reservations. We didn't know that upon arriving, so we selected a restaurant and was told it would be an hour wait! After traveling all day we were exhausted and starving, so when we said we'd try another one out they were able to seat us immediately. I don't think reservations are really needed, but I can see why the resort does them since all the restaurants are gourmet style -My piece of advise is get to know your local host! We left a request at booking that it was our anniversary trip, but the resort didn't do anything for us until we contacted our local host a few days in. Once we got a hold of him, he was very attentive, kind, and eager to help with anything we needed. I wish we would've known sooner as we were disappointed to arrive to nothing special done to our room for our anniversary. It feels like the resort is still trying to work out the process of the local host, but it is something that will be arguably their best tool once they figure it out! Overall we feel the resort has some kinks to work out with being a little over a year old, but we loved our stay and would most definitely consider coming back!

Unico 20.87

This is a brand new hotel that I think will continue to improve with time. What I liked most about the hotel was the food and the staff. Their Mexican restaurant has handmade tortillas and the best soup I have ever tasted. Their gift shops have beautiful authentic items that you can't find just anywhere. The staff is so friendly and really wants to make sure you have a great time. Our concierge made sure to find us daily and was proactive in helping us set up reservations for dinner. The hotel itself is beautifully decorated. What I did not like was that they appeared to be understaffed, particularly with the pool side service. There always seemed to be a forgotten item or water glasses would go without refills - all very minor but what I think sets good service apart from excellent service. Also I'm not sure if other resorts allow this but I noticed a lot of smokers and one woman was even smoking in the pool. The pools do not seem large enough to accommodate all of the guests. The pool areas are packed to the gills with lounge chairs and even then, it is hard to find a lounge chair. Also the layout around pool areas makes it hard to get around. The dark blue pools are a little cooler in temperature but I found them to be too cold. We spent most of our time by the "quiet" lighter blue pool which was warmer. I wish they had direct access to the beach from the quiet pool. Lastly, the beach was ok. There are small swimmable areas to the far left and right when you enter the beach. The beach is very slanted, not flat so it's not comfortable to walk for a long distance or sit in the lounge chairs.

Nice clean resort

Beach is nice and there is plenty of lounger chairs. Some of the pools are heated and bar staff is always asking if you need another drink. We are picky eaters but still could find plenty of options for food.

UNICO 2087 Great Vacation

My husband and I just got back from our stay at UNICO 2087. I usually dont do reviews, but this place was so great I felt I had too. From the minute we got their all our cares went away. We were greeted by welcome staff and presented with a welcome drink. The check in took a little long, but it was due to the fact that I wanted to change the room to a swimup (fyi totally worth it). It was great because check in isn't until 3pm...but our room was ready by 1pm. We we're actually walked to our room and given a total tour. We even got free hats! We made all of our reservations for dining right than and there. The rooms were amazing. Best room stay ever! Turn down service and sometimes fresh towels twice a day. The swim up pool was top notch. We never made it to the other pools! Carlos was our bartender for our whole trip and brought us drinks right to our pool. Definitely ask for him! We supposedly had a 24 hour concierge service Oscar who we never saw so that was a waste for us. As far as food, it was good for me excellent for my husband. I tend to be a picky eater and would have liked more options. My only suggestion would be to add another restaurant for dinner dining seeing if you are staying for an extended time. The lounge off the lobby was awesome and my husband and I took advantage of the mixologists and game playing! I would definitely go back again but seeing this is a new hotel of only 5 months I hope they stay on top of all the little things that made this place great!

Environmental Levy Fee
The Municipalidad of Solidaridad in the Rivera Maya is one of the most beautiful places in the Mexican Caribbean. Tourism has been instrumental in driving the economic and social development of the region. In an effort to continue to preserve, conserve and beautify the destination, the Municipality of Solidaridad has implemented a small environmental levy on visitors effective September 1, 2017. Hotels will collect 20 Mexican pesos per room per day on check out; the proceeds will be deposited in an environmental trust to fund local projects. The Municipalidad of Solidaridad thanks you for your understanding and support of this worthwhile endeavor. Thank you and enjoy your visit.
