I booked with an agent Rudy Chavez. Everything was confirmed and the payment was taken out of my account immediately, but when my fiancé and I got to the resort (2 weeks later) they did not have our reservation and therefore no room was readily available for us upon our arrival. We had to wait close to 2 hours before a room became available. I just don’t understand how I booked with a cheap Caribbean agent and my reservation wasn’t in the system when we got there. That was a huge inconvenience for us being as though my money was taken two weeks before our trip but there was no record of us having a reservation once we got there. On the contrary, the resort was really nice. We had fun on our excursions. The food was okay.

Paradise

This place truly exceeded my expectations . Beech was beautiful as well as the swimming pools. Found many things to do and plenty of places to relax. Staff was beyond excellent. I don't know how anyone could give less than 5 palms.

Second class citizens

We are avid cruisers on Royal Caribbean and Celebrity but wanted to try something different. Cruising has spoiled us apparently since nothing could compare at The Reserve. We chose not to stay in the Family concierge since we figured this would be best for families with younger children. 5 star is really what we would consider 3 star in the US for food and service. The facilties and room would be a 4. The sofa bed my 13 year old slept on was so uncomfortable that he needed to put the sofa cushions on it. The buffets were average. I’ve been accustomed to buffets having food allergies identified since I have a gluten allergy but here they were not. Vento was just bad. The other restaurants we went to were better but the effort to get the reservations was not worth the quality of the food. It seemed the Family concierge rooms had all the 7-9 times so we needed to wait until 5p each day to beg our concierge for one of these times instead of 9:30. Who eats at 9:30? The evening ‘shows’ were awful;however, the DJ was awesome on the beach at night! The chairs on the pool deck were all reserved with a towel by 8a. The beach was amazing so we spent our four days there. The first two rows of cabanas were reserved for Family concierge but we didn’t mind sitting three rows back by the bar. We were able to take our time in the morning and still get 3 chairs at 10a. The drinks were good so this helped make up for the frustrations! All in all, we felt like we were treated like second class citizens and wondered if this was because we did not stay in Family Concierge.

Wonderfully relaxing; almost 5 stars.

We loved our relaxing all-girlfriends week here! Our suites in the Reserve were the best accommodations ever, having stayed at four other beach resorts on other islands in previous years. Our suites were large and exceptionally clean, with maid service every day. Although we didn't use the hot tub in the suite, it was a real treat to discover that amenity! The staff from top to bottom was so friendly and helpful, altho language presented minor barriers at times. Having a concierge in each building was amazing; we only had to go to our lobby to get information or reservations. Ours even tracked down eyeglasses that were left in the pocket of a robe at the spa, that had already been taken to the laundry! The food was excellent at buffets and restaurants. Drinks were plentiful and the pool/beach staff was wonderful at coming to us frequently to take orders. The pools and beaches were amazing, and the tiki huts exactly what we needed to enjoy the beach without getting sunburned. The spa was very good, but needs some attention. The two large Jacuzzi pools were cool/lukewarm the whole week, and the steam room didn't hold steam very well. The sauna was really TOO hot to stay in for more than a few minutes. And the ladies locker room needs expansion, as there is very little space to change clothes privately. These things said, the desk staff and technicians were excellent, and between 4 of us, we had about 10 services over 7 days, most with exceptional results. Oh, one thing we learned on our last full day was that massages can be done on the beach in a palapa. That would have been awesome, but too late for us. The grounds are beautiful, and we chose to walk most places, altho the shuttles circle around every 10-15 minutes. It was great to have the option. Regarding classes, it would have been nice to have daily, early morning exercise/Zumba/yoga classes. What they did offer were sporadic as far as times and locations, and they did not do a great job of promoting them. Also, we weren't inclined to do these right next to the pool where everyone could watch. We did not have children with us, so cannot evaluate that angle, but the separate pool for families and the kids' activities did seem appealing. Altho we were there for relaxation, it would have been nice to have some evening entertainment every day. There are plenty of excursions available. We took the VIP sailboat tour to Saona Island and really enjoyed it with Tito as our guide. if I returned, I would definitely do the historical bus trip to Santo Domingo. Only one true negative aspect to our trip, and that was that the water is not purified on the island or resorts. We did not drink any tap water, just bottled water, and all 4 of our group got a mild touch of the stomach bug. It did not have much impact on our daily schedule, but was uncomfortable throughout the week and after returning home for a few more days. We felt lucky, though, as apparently others visiting the DR have experienced much worse from the water. I would consider returning to the DR if they began treating the water on the island or resorts.
